Hey fellow Ian, Question about paint color, does everybody use flat matt paint for a reason? I never see glossy, reflective or metallic paints. Is it just one of those things, that everybody follows about the grimdark-style? Or are there actually rules about paint?
The vast majority of miniature paint has a matte/satin finish, but matte varnish is common. It's become more common since people started sharing their hobby online, since gloss finished models are WAY harder to photograph accurately without tons of reflections. There are rules about painting, but not to do with matte/gloss finish. They generally tend to be either 'to attend this event your army must be painted' or 'if you've painted your models as Blood Angels you have to use the Blood Angels rules'.
Yeah, the idea is that.the crusade era was a time of great progress and everything was getting more advanced, but in the aftermath of the heresy the Imperium were so stretched they just defaulted to the most easy-to-maintain variants of whatever they had. So Tartaros armour and Contemptor Dreadnoughts both disappear in favour of simpler models.
I've got the rule book and the loyal codex book but can't find where the indominus terminators stats arin the book, can someone tell me where it is. He said it was a troop choice but can't find it anywhere
Yeah, not for everything but most of them either have 40k rules, or are armed in a way that means the models can be used in a 40k marine army even if the squad is called something different.
I don't see any difference between cataphractii and indimitus patterns... from data sheet point of view they are the same, it seems? can anyone point out their difference (beside the indomitus being quoted as "support squad".
Indomitus have the slower movement of Cataphractii (6") but also the lower invulnerable of Tartaros (5+). Tartaros would get an inch more movement and Cataphractii would get you a 4+ invul. On the plus side, power fists work out cheaper!
I love your videos so much, though it does seem you pronounce things different than the generally accepted norm just to meme. Prey-uh-tor...? No way right?
I’ve got a world eaters 40K army in heresy colours. Would any of the models be usable in the heresy games or do I have to buy all new tactical marines? Basically are my chaos legionnaire bodies too chaosy?
By the later stages of the Heresy, a lot of the Traitors had begun to exhibit more of the signs of their new patrons, especially the four who dedicated themselves to one of the gods. By the time of the Siege of Terra, a lot of the World Eaters where more or less similar to the survivors in the 41st millennium. A lot of it would really depend on the story you wanted to tell with your army.
@@Taibek from what i can tell theres no issue with models, they are just organised as different unit types.. in fact heresy looks like it would give yo loads of unit types you could assign to different models... heresy looks like it gives loads more freedom organisationally and in model choice than 40 k
Nah, I use my 40k Emperor's Children in 30k and just say they're late-Heresy, Siege of Terra era. You'll probably just need to reorganise some squads but Despoiler squads - a basic troops choice - are armed pretty much the same way as berserkers
@@ArbitorIan thanks for responding, just cant find that written down, do you know the page? Been through twice just now and not found it, feel like i must have missed a section somewhere.
It depends a lot on how you build your army. 30k is generally played at a higher points level than 40k. For me, it’s not uncommon for my army lists to have 60-70 infantry models as well as tanks and transports.
Good video, just thought I'd mention though that Praetor is an actual legion rank; they do not represent your common captains as you seem to suggest. Centurions represent your basic line captains, commanding companies of around 100 marines each. Praetor's are a high ranking space marine officer who usually command a Chapter of around 1,000 space marines or more and are therefore considerably more rare. That's (narratively) why you can't take them in games of less than a thousand points.
Praetor and Centurion are the official Principia Bellicosa grades but it depends on the Legion if the ACTUALLY use them. In the Sons of Horus, there is no rank above 'Captain', but company commanders like Captain Loken and First Captain Abaddon are definitely Praetor-equivalents, while the 'Captain' of the Reavers is outranked by the company Captains. Similar with Space Wolves. I can't actually think of a character in the novels whose given rank is Praetor?

Just wanted to add the praevian consul can take a squad of up to 3 vorax battle automata as his bodyguards, you said he could take a squad but missed what actual units
The Earthshaker cannon on a Rhino chassis looks weird yet intriguing to me
There is. Single dram randomly when he’s talking about praetor
Hey Ian, just want to your heresy playlist is out of order. The imperial fists video is listed after night lords and blood angels
Hey fellow Ian,
Question about paint color, does everybody use flat matt paint for a reason?
I'm interested in the way that the 40k versions of a lot of this kit (like the dreadnoughts and terminators) are the "older, cruder" variants in 30k.
@@ArbitorIan And presumably some STCs got lost or destroyed in the millenia of fighting and so on.
(I dunno, these mon-keigh...)
Nice mate, I just cant seem to find tartaros or cataphractii kits on GWs page :/
They're being repackaged into the new Heresy box style
@@ArbitorIan Cant wait, as I would love to finally have boxes of 10
I've got the rule book and the loyal codex book but can't find where the indominus terminators stats arin the book, can someone tell me where it is. He said it was a troop choice but can't find it anywhere
Hey little question from a guy who is confused over 30k vs 40k
Can you use 30k models in 40k? Like the Tartartos Terminators
Yeah, not for everything but most of them either have 40k rules, or are armed in a way that means the models can be used in a 40k marine army even if the squad is called something different.
Maybe im missing something but why do the forgeworld command sets come with 2 models if you need 3+ lmao
Thanks buddy!
@@ArbitorIan thanks Ian! Wasn’t sure I could bring myself to paint another 20-30 marines in the same colour scheme again 😂
No offense but I’m glad I’m in 40k just for the lore and painting. Can’t fathom having to keep track of all this.
check out the books , if you are into that kinda thing. the books got me hooked
Tartaros/Cataphractii available as plastic kits? No re-release happened yet, as far as i know
Re-release? They're just changing the boxes!
@@ArbitorIan good news, gives me a reason to quit hunting for bits :)
Do Recon Squads not have Line? I could have sworn they had Line…
Anyone know where it states Tactical support squads applicable for manadatory Troop choice, cant see that anywhere?
Tactical Support Squads have the Support Squad special rule, which means they can't fill a Compulsory slot
@@ArbitorIan thanks for responding, just cant find that written down, do you know the page? Been through twice just now and not found it, feel like i must have missed a section somewhere.
Ah, pg 248. in the rule book. Got it.
ok, how many models is there in a normal 30k game??? is it more or equivalent as a space marine army from 40k?
It depends a lot on how you build your army. 30k is generally played at a higher points level than 40k. For me, it’s not uncommon for my army lists to have 60-70 infantry models as well as tanks and transports.
Generally it's more. The points sizes are larger BUT that's not a hard rule as all the MASSIVE TANKS eats up points pretty fast!
@@ArbitorIan ok, thank you.
Do Veteran units have Line?
Rune Priests and Stormseers are totally NOT Librarians :)
I find the homogeneity of units is the largest barrier to HH. :/
you pronounced Dorito dreadnought incorrectly. It's Dorito :P
For heretics it's the same?
Yes, same basic list for all legions
@@ArbitorIan Praetorian of Dorn mentions “a Praetor of the Legions” but that’s the closest to it I can remember.
Luv these quick break downs ... Just like a woman's skirt; long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.' Hopefully you can get around to chapter specific ✌️💚
Omg sounds complicated
I wonder how many times you said "legion" and why it is literally in every unit name
I'm not at all into power gaming or "the best" units, but the Glaive got totally ruined this edition.
I love your channel, but this seemed a bit rushed, you can take a breath and adlib for longer on these Ian
But how would i fit it all in 20 minutes if I BREATHED???!!!!!
