Again, you got elemental mercury confused with dimethyl mercury or other organic compounds. Mercury itself isn't poisonous, however it is very hard for your body to get rid of it once it's in, which can cause problems down the line. However, you would need to be exposed to mercury vapor on a regular basis to get any negative effects. Organic mercury compounds on the other hand are a different story, and you seem to be talking about both at the same time. You said a few drops could kill you if you touch it, but that's not true, because I have worked with mercury before and touched it, and I'm fine. In short, you have confused elemental mercury for organic mercury Edit: I would like to correct myself, mercury IS poisonus, but in its liquid phase its relatively harmless, unless it gets into an open wound or you literally take a bath in it. Mercury does, however, fume a lot, which can be seen using a black light. These fumes are dangerous if inhaled repeatedly over the course of your life. But playing with it occasionally while following safety guidelines is pretty much fine. This video is still bs though
I remember when I was a kid, a thermometer containing mecury broke. I was amazed then at how this metal behaves like water as I have never seen it before. It formed a small droplet on the table, which I roll around using a stick. I left it on the table for a few moment as I play around and when I got back, my big cousin swept it away.

Want to try this for real? Come have a swim in Onondaga Lake, Syracuse, NY! After years of trying to clean it up, the lake is still beyond the maximum mercury concentration limit. The fishing's great as well!
Don't forget about ice harvesting in the winter! It really is an all year attraction perfect for depressed tourists, really livens things up, ya know.. till it doesn't.
For the people that don't understand sarcasm: Unsafe levels of pollution led to the banning of ice harvesting as early as 1901. In 1940, swimming was banned, and in 1970 fishing was banned due to mercury contamination
When I was in my teens and learning electronics I was using mercury for doing some experiments. With electronic systems they are using specialized mercury switches. This metal has to be properly disposed of if required to be disposed. Mercury vapour is used in most types of fluorescent lighting. The CFL lamps we use have mercury in them.
When I was a child I once took a thermometer and it turned out to be broken and I got a silvery ball on my hand good thing my mother was in the room and I asked her what that was
Logan Dublin University Look up Cody’s lab he stood in it, holds it and put it in his mouth and he is fine. You just make to make sure it does not enter the blood steam and you will be ok. Some people will have more sensitive skin than others and will get rashes easy. I would suggest staying away from it though because safety.
That would've been an extremely tiny amount of mercury. It likely wouldn't have done anything to you, provided you didn't inhale any vapors. Mercury is very volatile, and a good conductor of electricity, which is the main reason why it was used in high-voltage/high-current vacuum tube rectifiers. Of course, these days liquid thermometers are made with alcohol instead of mercury, similar to the alcohol used in bubble lights. I don't remember what the alcohol is called, but it is sensitive to temperature changes and can be easily calibrated.
You know, when I can watch a video like this, with it's advanced graphics and formulas, along with what I'm sure was in depth research, and see it come to the commonly accepted conclusion about how deadly Mercury is... And then tune into "Cody'sLab" and see a guy safely stand in, as well as gargle with the stuff, I can't help but feel maybe there's a problem... A lot of it is incomplete stories that sow a distrust in science. Is some Mercury perfectly safe. Yes. Is some Mercury extremely deadly. Yes. The bigger problem is people excluding details to make their narrative more compelling and seem more bullet proof, without exceptions...

Oh, I thought this was the "What if" channel, because they answered this question 3 weeks ago.
plot twist: the pool of mercury makes u into a superhero that has metal skin 🦸♂️
What If You Fell Into a Mercury Pool?
You will feel so hot like your next to the sun
Car Addiction SQUAD lol
Oh HAHA!! Good one! 😆

Riddle: Standing on the mercury lake
Einstein: This is why I left
Einstein: pulls up youtube
Sees this
leaves and says weres the studies bc there probably in the trash
I was a child in the 80s and remember mercury was shortly popularized as a toy to play with. There was also a thick paste (like slime) that had a strong acetone smell; it would come with a little straw so you could blow your own funky smelling giant colorful bubble. 🤦♂️
You just brought back a stream of memories the smell then the straw. Hell yes almost thinknit was late 70's? Born in 68 thanks for the memories
TH-cam -“Hey guys! i’m going to be walking on mercury in my BACKYARD!”
2:49 Good thing I’m a Libra I keep my balance like libras
finally someone gets it /srs
I used to play with mercury as a kid. Never had a problem. As an adult I can see clearly out of my third eye.
“You might try to wait for all the Mercury in the lake to evaporate” ok but wtf would the point of this video be if no one was gonna swim in it
Just a Theory
In high school chemistry class, we would coat coins in mercury.
"People took mercury as a cure for many diseases"
Yeah, like depression.
bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im not laughing
its didnt cure anything, but afterwards at least they always knew what their temperature was.
I ate Mercury when I was 14. My brother broke a Thermometer into my rice bowl. I ate it without knowing it.. I'm alive and well.. This video tells I shouldn't be alive.
Yeah, elemental mercury isn't that deadly but methylmercury...
He said that a small dosage eaten will not kill you, listen again
@@polboss99 Ya.. He said both.. Anyway I'm alive.
@@srinivasv2750 He just said ingesting it will cause no harm in a tiny amount. This video definitely does not say that you shouldn't be alive
Indians get so defensive about the dangers of mercury because they put small amounts of it in their traditional meals and its been long believed to have health benefits. But all the traditions in the world dont disprove the science on mercury's danger
I don't think you'd find a pool of any sort on Mercury.
In China you could
In Chinese Emperor tomb you could find a lot of mercury.
@@TONAL03 maybe I should go there to get some
@@TONAL03 It's been found in large pools under Mesoamerican temples as well.
fredie mercury
The narrators voice makes every video so damn suspenseful

Wood frogs can hold their pee for 8 months

"Riddle": You have motivated ME & MANY to start their own youtube channe! 🙏🙏
I've also made a TH-cam channel
I grew up in the 80's so we had those old thermometers. One broke and as a kid I played with the silver liquid for a while until my mom saw what I was doing and just told me to knock it off. I never got sick or anything.
Facts- Is there any Mercury pool in earth
when my mom tells me to do something educational...
*Jumps into a mercury pool*
“Shiny silver balls.”
HUH
After watching this
Me: alright we’re all ya thermometer
“Don’t Show this to Cody”
“Oh, ohh god... no, Cody! NO!”

@@nft8602 Cody's Lab. He's a great TH-camr and has done some experiments with mercury.
ROBLOX SHARK
Yeah Cody’sLab, he basically eats that stuff (Mercury) on a daily bases! Nah just kidding, but he has a great channel with interesting experiments and diy stuff.
hes already done it. I have no idea why you are shouting "no" so loudly, hes fine and has been for years.
Simple answer: You’ll be blessed with an amazing voice and wacky dance moves.
This guy makes you get afraid of everything around you.
Well there are no lakes of mercury where I live so I'm not too concerned 😆
I haven't even seen a thermometer that uses mercury in like 20 years.
this is like watching vsauce on speed. The question: "What If You Fell Into a Mercury Pool?" is repeated over an over again and the next sentence is always not the answer instead some other hyperbolic statement and the cycle starts again
A little sensationalism goes a long way.
Bro I was just about to take a dive in my mercury jacuzzi. Thanks for the tip
I was ready to do this until he said don’t do this at home FML
Lmfaooooo
Just go to the YMCA, boom loophole baby!
I live an hour away from there. Beautiful lake but only from a distance
Him: Do not try this at home.
Also him (later in the video): Tie yourself to a tree before experimenting.
Once a mercury thermometer broke and all of it got on my hand. And nothing happened to me.
@Mr. Fluffy They said in the video that it can burn your skin.
@@ourworldisstrange7301 Time to heat it up on a stove.
Guess we'll be completely fine with Class A hazmat suits or one of those Hazmat diving suits
I know I was really confused cause I saw Cody's lab video and he's basically saying it's safe and these garbage videos are like "ITS SO DANGEROUS"
