Spent 4th of July 1992 in Missoula with my cousin. Was far, far from home. Ended up running around on what I thought were railroad tracks that ran along side the parking lot of a big shopping mall. Pickup truck tailgates pulled up to the tracks as far as I could see, people sitting on them lighting fireworks, kids running around happy in the evening light. There were massive speakers set up in the mall parking lot blasting American music about small towns and her people. And then they had the official town fireworks display. I was far away from everyone I knew. Only my cousin running along beside me, knew me. But I love that place. I said whatever happens I will get back to this beautiful piece of America.
