- Siege of Mount Gundabad: Witch King's Stand - Third Age Total War Mod Gameplay - The Witch King has rallied a mighty army of orcs from all around middle earth. He is surrounded by an alliance of the free people of middle earth. Dwarves, Men, and Elves. It may appear that the Witch King's army is overwhelming strong, but the Elves have a secrete weapon and will show no mercy. This is a 13,000 man siege at Mount Gundabad. Enjoy the Siege Battle!
Third Age: Reforged - The Players used Third Age: Reforged to play the battle which is a sub mod for Third Age Total War. Third Age Total War is a mod for Medieval 2 Total War.

I think that it is a little strange that Warg Riders can easily kill Knights of Anuminas and Knights of Dol Amroth. I mean, the knights have heavy plate armor on and armor on their horses while Warg Riders are goblins with almost no armor on huge wolves with no armor. I know they are huge wolves, but they wouldn't be able to kill the knights so easily.
the silver surfer knights were strange, i don't know what happened to them, maybe because the scenarios was an older version i dunno
Yeah those War Riders were absolutely broken in those initial few engagements. They walked into pikes and got flanked by Swan Knights and Knights of Annuminas, yet they lost some 20 odd wargs at the cost of only a dozen Knights.
its cause the Warg Riders are classified as camels and in total war camels are anti-cav

i guess because the eastern factions in medieval times had the best cavalry and one does associate camels with eastern factions?

It's bad enough the trolls operate as an omnipotent unit that eliminate tactics and strategy, now the wargs? There is a difference between not being "lore friendly", and being almost ironic. If fully upgraded swan knights get massacred by a single unit of warg riders, the balance between units needs major overhaul.
David Kingsley yeah even though in third age these orcs are really crappy... they still win many times because of their numbers... its not necessary to buff them up this much because "they are orcs!"... they are supposed to be crap without their numbers...😂😂😂

And Elves didnt have Hir-e-Beng? The red caped units? I didnt see any unique units that are of reforged
For Hir-E-Beng just weren't used in this scenario. I don't remember who made this scenario but it's older one and thus more newer units are not included
it is played on reforged... look at the armor of dwarven ironfoot units... its the new armor from the hobbit movies which is added only in reforged...

I appreciate the hard work the modders put into this but I have to agree with the dissenters here. The orc nations are so OP now it's not even funny. Wargs wiping out knights in plate armor? Trash Orc infantry owning elite dwarves and Elven infantry? It breaks the immersion and defeats the purpose of the orc nations which use mostly trash infantry in great numbers to overwhelm the enemy. I'm fine with adding a couple of elites to evil factions but it's been taken too far. The reavers in particular were way OP.
I did watch the video to the end and now I will amend my previous statement to perhaps just the Elves need a bit of buffing in addition to some of the Elite Orc units need nerfing.

Its a siege battle in which the Elves got 5k kills, and you think they need a buff? They're clearly on par with dwarves which seems about right all things considered. They Elves dying if anything shows SOME semblance of balance because in earlier renditions they were so OP you had to be brain dead to actually lose with them.
Hunter Wagner they used to get stomped. "Trash" that was exactly what they were and it's not that fair. In the movies you see hordes of "trash" orcs break through lines within limits. The orcs deserved a buff for being stomped so hard so so so many times. Maybe not as big of one but still. Let them enjoy it while they can.
Honestly, I feel like Wargs are too good in this mod. They should have buffed them, but the fact that they can beat Swan Knights and Knights of Annuminas is bullshit. Isengard shouldn't have such strong cav.
I agree they were also crap in the movies aswell, so it's kinda BS there so powerful here.

MVP of this battle was definitely the Dwarven player, I massively respect all the players who play these scenarios of course but this guy was reinforcing so many key points in the battle as well as fighting hard in the centre. On the question of should you retreat units, I don't fight players but I assume that retreating units will mostly get arrows/bolts/javelins in the back because that's what I'd if I spotted my opponents doing that :) I can see why it would be a good idea but I think you need Ancient Empires to make it work though to avoid the morale hit. And thanks to Apollo for posting this battle :D
All I gotta say is, Warg Riders got their money's worth.
They did the best out of any thing in the orc armys imagine if they brought like 6 units they probs could have massacred the arorian army lel

*Hey guys! Sorry this video is coming out so late, I accidentally released it yesterday. The render was super choppy and looked like it was in fast forward. I had to render it again and it should be good now. Also, I forgot to mention a rule for the attackers. If Aragon dies then the undead army can no longer fight in the battle. It was basically a 2v4, since the Elves didnt do that good. So, great plays from the Dwarves and Arnor

For your question about if troops should switch between fighting phases to get some rest: Yes, the romans would every 2-3 minutes so no man would get super tired and provided fresh troops. Now retreating your troops while still engadged is stupid (cavalry gets demolished if they get stuck and you try to retreat) the best way is to charge another unit in and then pull out your exhausted one for minimal casualties while retreating.

29:08 yes totally agree with alternating the battle-line with fresh troops the Romans used to do it and it worked incredibly well for them, and let me get this strait the dwarfs brought the least amount of men, lost the least amount of men and got most of the kills..... man i think the dwarfs might need a teeny tiny nurf or even lest troops xD .. aah screw its awesome watching them butcher everything in there droves! lol
The whole feeling of this submod gets to me. The changes to the rosters of each faction seem to be for no coherent reason, merely troops for the sake of troops. They only serve to plug weaknesses, which are what make the nations diverse in the first place. The dwarves are one of the best examples: They have some of the best infantry in the game, hands down. But no cavalry. This is their only weakness. Skirmishers and cavalry can't be caught by the Dwarves. So why give them goat-riders? It's a thing from an inaccurate film which completely contradicts the lore and, more importantly, makes a tough, but slow faction into a machine with no weaknesses. If the orcs rely on hordes and numbers, don't give them super-strong numenorian foot and horse, or magic fire-spitting wraiths (again lore inaccurate) This serves no purpose. Also, the solution to "this unit is too op" is not weaken it, but give all the other factions game-breaking units (see fire-wraiths) This is not how to balance a game. It makes it too same-y if all factions have super-strong elites, heavy horse, excellent archers and superb foot.

I really agree with your point, but then there's gotta be some way that factions can respond to threats. Like looking at the dwarves, if they don't have a way to combat skirmishers and cav, then it makes battles really uninteresting. Say you are playing as dwarves against someone like an elvish faction, you know just for fun. Having no cav is understandable but then having really limited numbers of skirmishers means the only way you can attack is just to instantly charge otherwise you're just a sitting target more or less. I defo agree with no cav for dwarves but perhaps some of their roles need to be diversified so they can have some way to retaliate. I do agree with you entirely that factions can get too samey, and defo don't agree with numenorian foots for sure!
I totally agree. Like, why are you giving Isengard trolls when they already have excellent infantry? And the orc armies are not supposed to have such elite troops. The mass influx of Numenorion units was just so unnecessary and stupid. The orc armies have to rely on huge masses of troops, not elite ones.
Play it first i guess then give me some feedback. And also we're working on new stats atm that will show you the difference between 0.86 and new patch.

this battle is lore freindly it took place at the abd of the war between arnor and agmar this was the war that destroyed arnor and split theyr kingdom it was before the hobbit films

A fan fic lore for this: in the great fortress of gundabad after losing the battle at Minas thirth the magicians of the witch king try to resurrect him through their spy's the forces of good meet in a great alliance of all the races of good the men of Gondor/arnour,silvan elves and the dwarves unite a final time to stop the witch kings rise the great tribes orc tribes left over form the war the orcs of gundabad,isenguard and battle scarred veterans(left over fodder) of mordor. the greatly diminished but elite forces of good face off against the forces of evil this battle shall decide the fate of middle earth if the witch king comes back to power the lands of arnour shall suffer the fate of their forefathers if he does not then the last great hold of evil shall be cleansed and evil shall be banished until greed and power breeds more

APOLLO!!!, you never disappoint. I understand the problem with the vid and it's okay👌, thanks so much for yet another awesome battle replay, I felt like this battle was perfectly balanced (exception of Oathbreakers😄). Great work by the attackers, and good game to all the others. I agreed with all your tactics and feel that the defenders could have done a much better job. No the less, every tried their hardest. Thanks again Apollo - By the way, I believe the Oathbreakers have around 100 hits points, whereas regular infantry has no more than 15 or 20, so they are killable but only after fighting hundreds of troops and taking those hits.
There is no glitch in the mobile artillery. If you get it too close to the edge, it is basically stuck there. To move it after that, the crew has to walk on air to get behind it and push it back from the edge. So, either keep it back from the edge or leave it along if it's too close.
Look, I do agree warg riders needed to be tougher, but unarmored wolves able to go toe to toe with armored cav in head to head combat with little to no casualties the way they did at the beginning of this battle is ridiculous. Nerf them please. So unrealistic it hurts.

Need to remake it. Now that the mirkwood elves are becomming more added to the total war game, make it like silvan elves, but mostly mirkwood elves and lots of gundabad, mordor. That would be epic and more updated then this. Battle was good but it just disnt make much sense for them have a battle their when it was mirkwood elves that waged war on those lands like legolas said lol. Hope to see the remake one day. And if not someone else will but i do enjoy and prefer this channel to do it.

that was a really good question about the strategy for Arnor PA. I'd say with archer support call back the exhausted unit and replace the unit with a fresh unit

troops should cycle through. it's simple Roman tactic to stop troops from getting too tired

yup and by the time they get tired the old reserves are rested ^^
That tactic doesn't work in these games simply because turning a unit around mid fight get a lot of them killed and you'll take more casualties than if you just stuck it out
In this case he could have done it. You might only lose a few soldiers by retreating from some shitty orcs. If you push trough with exhausted units you'll lose a lot more. I think.

I like basically all your battles but this one annoyed me a bit, the defenders never had a chance, their armies were like 1/3 orc and goblin band, they had 3 sides to defend and then to top it all off the already elite elves were allowed to bring the single most op unit in the game, oathbreakers, like, ridiculous, the defenders did really well killing as many as they did, frankly that might be the first time I've ever seen oathbreakers die in melee, whenever they're in a battle (which isn't often I know) I basically just go, oh ok, so the side with them has won, that sucks

The warg rush at the beginning while pretty op didn't make anywhere near the difference needed for it to be considered a chance to win, they mostly killed Arnor troops and arnor ended the battle with basically a full army, half their artillery bugged out and yes the other half was under utilised but frankly even if they'd killed the oath breakers, fifty thousand orc band wouldn't have won this battle, 3 of the best armies in the game vs a horde of mostly crap, come on, it was literally a how long will it take to chew them up battle, also the only reason the oathbreakers didn't end all hope from the get go was the player being nice about using them, if as pixie had said they'd just sent them up they'd have chewed through the armies largely unassisted
