Being a parent is also an amazing carrer 🥰 so it might be only a season, and to be honest, it’s a very short season of your life if you look back

Yeah who make the money to live life with the kids? The parents , if you want to have a decent life you have to work. So you don't depend on the gouvernment to eat.

“How does it work in your country?” as if Americans don’t have family to help out with the kids or the time to be with their kids.
You live in a different tax bracket, which is not how the average American gets by. Especially in the Bay Area.

Damn everything is so expensive there. In my country it costs only like 12 dolars for half a year for day care and for a nanny it would be like 3 or 4 dolars a hour😮 wish you the best luck thooo

Having to spend your whole salary on childcare blows my mind. No parent should be facing such conditions. As a comparison, in Germany full time childcare for babies 6 month or older costs about 300 euro a month, the average cost of one child per month is about 700 euro. During the paid parental leave of 14 months (split between moms and dads) you are being paid 60% of the salary you earned pre-baby. Sometimes I feel lucky to call myself an European.

My parents didn’t have any help raising me and my two sisters. Growing up in the same area that she is was tough with money. Especially since my parents were immigrants as well and didn’t have high paying jobs. It’s definitely hard to do but totally worth it I feel like.

I'm from India. I'm working in Bangalore (popularly called Silicon valley of India) with very similar situation of yours. Both parents are at different parts of India and can't fly down due to health issues.
So the survival modes are similar.. full time nanny, creches etc for both parents working. Love from India ❤

In my honest opinion, giving up your career to stay home with the kids never makes sense. If it’s a real career seniority matters and even if for few years your whole salary goes to childcare, when the kids go to school you get your salary back.

Was in Bay Area for over 10yrs in tech (Aple&Meta), left 1/2mil total comp. salary, moved family back to Taiwan cause’ private school daycare is like $300/mth. Mortgage Interest rates are still 2% here so doing STR and real estate investing ☺️
Now can spend more time with my babies 🥰

In my country grandparents take care of children when parents are at job.

So even when their kids are grown up the parents still don't get their well-deserved time to themselves because now they watch the grandkids.😳
