That answer is way less bs than I thought it was. Genius.
I love Scam School/Scam Nation and have been watching since Brian's head was a cactus, but we need more Modern Rogue!
agreed. (but you do know we released 3 just last week, right?) th-cam.com/users/modernrogue
@@scamschool YES I DID! I watch all of them. :)
Same here since his hair like a joker hahaha
Third move wasn't touching 2
Love the cactus part ahaha. Watched them since i was young and wasn't able to drink😭 now I'm prepared for the bar at age 21
Ok... my brain didn't consider there were no rules about no coins being left alone.
There's nothing wrong with Bottle Flipping for the ad, because you're bringing back an old favorite puzzle, it's only fitting to bring back a meme that's just as old!
hah
I know this is an older video, so it's unlikely y'all will see this, but I like to call this puzzle "Walking The Dog" because each step of the solution fits with what you do when you walk your dog! First, you grab the leash (create the line), then you open the door (create the gap), then you take the dog out (widen the gap), and then you come home (fill the gap)! And even if you give them that hint, they won't make the connection until you show it to them!
Ok, but my favourite thing about the solution is: it's the most straight-forward one you could possible imagine. What you need? To stretch coins, what you do? you pick a coin and move other coins as far as possible from it, and after after 3 moves you are basicly presented with a perseft solution
It's actually not as far as possible. If you keep repeating moves, you can move that group of 3 infinitely far away. It's like the spaceship constructs in Conway's Game of Life
I saw the premise and immediately thought I had an idea. Ended up solving it fairly quickly. Nice little brain teaser, though!
Jeah, first solving was quick, structuring what I just done took some mins
Proud to say I actually figured this one out
I was sure this was not possible and the solution would be some loophole shit but was pleasantly surprised and impressed.
This was easy to figure out. The hardest part was finding 4 pennies laying around. The diamond is basically to sets of two straight lines. Take one of the coins from the skinny side of the middle and move it so you have three in a line. Then take the second coin in the line and connect it to the back side of the two coins. Take the coin that you didn’t move and wasn’t part of the original three and move that so it is in line with the top coin and the stand alone coin. Finally move the coin not in line with the other three and move it into the space in the line.
There was a fair bit of coin pushing there, Brian, particularly after razzing them about it!
Right! How are they allowing the pushing?
Wow, what a privilege to learn Brian's FAVORITE TRICK
hahahahhahaha. This one is legitimately my most-used closer, if that phrases it better.
Dammit you beat me to it Brian!
Literally can do this in Australia 😭our coins are too big or too small
Just push one quarter in between 2
I remember I subscribed because of this trick, it was maybe 5 years ago
I just found this video from a Short and now I'm reading your comment from 5 years ago on a trick you watched 10 years ago.
That last move with the coins wouldnt it be a illegal move?
Before I saw Brian's 4-move solution, I found a legitimate 5-move solution. Then I was shocked to see the 4-move solution. The way I solved it was to work backwards from the final 4-in-a-row position. Here's an interesting question and challenge: Label the coins in the diamond formation, "1", "2", "3", and "4". Starting each time from your specific initial orientation and numbering, is it possible to achieve all of the 24 possible linear arrangements of the coins, i.e. 1234, 1243, 1324, 1342, etc?
Yes, it's possible, because you can easily swap the coins in the diamond state
@@LoerisOtter yeah you can always create different diamonds via legal moves
I know the solution, figured it out. Never said one couldn't be isolated from moving the other coins.
Only 1 coin can move at a time. Can't push 1 coin with a different coin because that's 2 coins moving at once.
I actually got it right lmao
I just thought it'd be impossible to end on the end of the coin line, so I looked for a way to separate the coins so that I could end it in the middle
The Mooch knows no bounds
I’m a modern rouge
Bahahaha 😂😂😂 I’m sorry Brian I had to do it I’ve always thought it was hilarious anyone spelt it like that.
IM A MODERN ROGUE !!!!
We would like to learn Brian's
Favourite pickup line(Obviously we know you are happily married but we are talking about in the past)
the first move is forced, since the other possible move (excluding symmetrically equivalent moves) changes nothing.
after this we need to think. the main difficulty is getting the two outermost coins so far away from each other. we can slowly step away with only three coins, zig-zagging away.
finally, we move the coin that is not in the line into the gap between the triplet and the lone remaining coin
Took me awhile but I was so satisfied with myself when I i got it haha
the biggest tip off is that you have to end touching two other coins so the last move has to be moving a coin into a middle position/filling a gap
My solution was different. It says only move one coin at a time. So I place my finger on two coins and move only one and never remove the finger. Done. I so like the real answer better.
I knew that you had to leave a gap, and the last move would be filling said gap. I just wasn't sure how to get there.
saw the youtube short and was actually able to solve it correctly! Honestly surprised myself lol
I figured out that solution real quick! Anyone else?
I got it 2nd try. 3 moves. Prob works better on inebriated people lol
Took me all of 20 Seconds to get, am I just smart or is it easy? :D
I seen it the second he first moved the middle and I did not think of doing that at first but he put it wrong and I then had seen it
If Brian takes that to every bar and perform for drunk people it would be a real miracle that the Rogue's Arena would be smooth, nice and clean. That stickiness means it has been used to its maximum potential or that Brian is lazy and doesn't clean his props like the lab coat.
Got it in one try. Do I get a free drink?
So wait 0:39 No pushing. 4:54 he clearly pushes.
He literally pushed it during the explanation at 5:21.
Still a great party teaser
agreed!
Nice 👍
Took me about 7 minutes to solve its a good use of words to set the rules
1:30, got it. 4 moves, now let's see if I did it correctly.
Edit: Jup, nailed it. *box*
Touching coins called quarters. Refers to the fraction as three fourths 😂 Americans confuse me
The french confuse me. All of the different ways to introduce yourself. I'm convinced half of it is slang and the other half is slang that became normal vernacular
Thats amazing... Thank you so much for all the cool videos...
The answer is two moves with finger on it
Yall are Professor Layton NPCs
Ever since Scam School episode 2, this has been my favorite puzzle.
same here!
I so thought this said 4 change not 4 coins
I got it!

But the CAD solutions shows there will be tiny pushes\pullings involved.
So I found the solution on my own, then I noticed that the gap will cause the coins to move... you said no pushing the coins. I found if I adjust the coins as long as place them at a gap that I can make the gap wide enough so I don't have to do that. Takes a few more moves though.
Hey, I'm relatively new to the channel, I'm now a HUGE fan and watch probably 15 videos a day, but do you have one on the revelation mind trick?
The reason people dont get it is that they think that they cant break the chain of 4. Leave one of the coins alone while the others circle around.
Just tried it with more than 4 coins. Whats cool is this is that it appears you can start with any number of coins and the technique is pretty much the same (i.e. leaving a gap of 1 and leap-frogging). So if you think someone might just solve it by pure chance then add a few coins.
just saw the shorts, then it took me four tries, but i didn't drink :P. cool trick i'll check some friends on it :D
This has been shown already right? Cause I just did it first try and it didn't feel like dumb luck.
hold on! Rex and Daniel have their own channel! why hasn't this come up before?
Got it in about 2 minutes. If you eliminate the moves that take you back to where you've been, there aren't too many choices.
Surely it can be done in 3 moves?
WIZARD POWERS!!!
This was the first scam I ever pulled... worked first time out... took my beer and never scammed again... batting 1000 till the day I die.... champ!
smart move.
Dab is a sex move XD
I think this trick is awesome bcs it's legitimately not a trick, though except a few spectators thinking outside box to figure it out every once in a while
in the 15 years I've been doing it, I don't think more than 2 people have ever gotten it on their own. It's a really powerful and satisfying solution.
Yeah I think it has to do with your presentation.
And BTW I love that you are replying to so many of us thank🙏
I figured this out pretty much right away. Having a drunken audience definitely helps of course. :p
I got my own coins out to see if I could get it. Im glad to say I did
Nice. They were actually really close to getting it on their own. Musta been the whiskey.
it's sooo irritating when the answer is that easy
Easy peasy.
Making an ad entertaining is no small feat. That thing with bottle flipping caught me up. Nicely done
Third or fourth video with the same trick?
Could you do a video on the more social aspects of tricks like tips to convince people to give you what you want?
Nice!
I like this puzzle, I’ll have to try it on people sometime!
The ghosts and spirit animals moved those coins xD
Doe Domain.com know you're cheating on them w/ squarespace?
Mooch! 😂 love the whiskey tribe
Nice moves.👍
I figured it out pretty easily. The easy way to figure it out without being told how, is to realize the only way to end in a straight line, is by moving one coin between two others. You have to have it touching two coins to count, so only moving a coin to one of the inner two spots is a legal move. From there the pieces fall into place. That method works in a lot of puzzles, visualize the final move(s) and then work your way to them, not try and go from beginning straight to the end.
BKANerd it really is. Once you understand some general strategies, it makes things so much easier. Like the high school questions with answers like.
A. Blue muffin
B. Red muffin
C. Red donut
Like the answer is red muffin. General rule, it has something in common with all the other answers, 95% chance it’s right. I have zero clue what the question was, or what class it’s for, it’s a shitty example, but we all know those questions, and it’s another good example of a general problem solving rule.
Basically what I’m saying is learn the rules, you’ll unlock the universe.
You can really see the moves they make using that matt ..
Also old Domain.com ad? Really?
Real question: would you prefer a straight ad-read, or a classic sketch?
@@scamschool Real question: when does a classic sketch become a straight ad-read?
I love an old favorite
I remember this one :)
I remember that
Nice one!
right? It's such a satisfying answer.
Fun fact, I figured this out on the short with the video paused and not looking at the comments, I didn’t have coins or a table
where did you get the pad? thanks.
www.scamstuff.com/products/rogues-arena
Figured it out instantly. Get the 3 in a row. Forget about one and use the other three clins in 2 moves to make a new triangle lined up with the one you forget about. Leaves a gap of one coin. Move the tip of the triangle in that gap.
Can brian reply to my comment?
indeed I can!
Nice one !
Early enough to Brian's spikes
You... you wanna try that again?
@@micahphilson I'll leave it as a fill in the blank. Let's see how far it goes.
Why repeat old tricks ?
is once every 11 years too often for you?
Scam Nation yes because my memory lasts 12 years minimum
Definitely going to use this one!
it's so good!
I love that trick. Been a fan of it for a while now.
samesies!
@@scamschool what's the answer I'm still confused and feel kinda slow
No disrespect to y’all, but how do u have almost 2 million subscribers and only get 24k views, and then have 96 comments? Again no disrespect... I’m just genuinely curious.
This may sound weird but it can be done in 3 moves
Not legitimately.
Yeah, Rob's right. It's 4 moves if you're not fudging.
@@scamschool I paused in the beginning and was like piece of cake after move two with the gap I move it in place and subtly align the bottom coin .. then I watched the rest and was like oh.. well this is a predicament
@@necroneuronz456 so you solved a not straight line?
@@patrickkhalifeh1257 kinda I moved the bottom coin over a smidge
Noice
Wait why are you showing us this trick once again?
...but they don't touch in the last move yet the rules say they MUST touch.
this trick again?
Once every 10 years too often for ya?
@@scamschool You underestimate how often fans watch oldies but goodies. Personally, I love Scam School/Nation's riddles/tricks of this nature that just require thinking outside the box, yeah you don't wanna know how often I've seen certain episodes.....
Its impossible, to actually do it you would need to be able tp perfectly judge the size of the coin to get the last one to touch 2 coins without pushing any of the coins. Its a classic bar bet where you cant actually do it but you can get close enough that people wont kick up too mucy of a fuss
If it’s not a straight line you can do it in 3
“If you change the game it’s a different game”
You can do it in 2 moves
show me.
I found the answer in a matter of seconds
aren't you a genius
first comment
nope
Unfortunately it's undoable and that solution breaks the rules. "Each time you're moving coin you can only let go when it's touching 2 other coins". Since each coin touches 2 coins already at the beginning, there are no "2 OTHER coins" to touch after moving, to be able to let go as he is touching at least one coin from initial setup hence it's not 2 other coins.
This is conceptually and grammatically the biggest clusterfuck of a comment I have read in some time.
