He was truly unstoppable with an accordion in his hands. Any box player can learn a lot just from listening to him. Even the way he plays with the limited dynamics of the accordion (playing the notes quietly vs loudly) is impressive. And of course the way he places the ornamentations into his tunes so they enhance the rhythm instead of muddying up the tune is something quite amazing.

@@josephwalsh2682 his compositions were also amazing (e.g. the second tune he plays in this set) - great modal quality to many of them. As far as modern trad players who also wrote tunes, Finbarr's have always been my fav's.

Gosh, he was good wasn't he! I've been on a real binge of listening to different box players recently and he is right there up at the top. I love a load of other players' styles too (Cooley, Derrane, Bogue, Gardiner, McCann, all distinctive and recognisable) but Dwyer is just so melodic and elegant.

Finbar was left handed. Played guitar and fiddle left handed but strung conventionally. So he literally played guitar upside down. Was also very capable on piano accordian. Could pick up any instrument and play it. Genius.
