As a child I listened to Paddy playing on the radio... Indeed Paddy composed many beautiful traditional tunes also that are still very popular with younger musicians... His daughter Eileen is a well known Fiddle player.
I wish they would renew Come West Along the Road. Every Friday evening, 7 o'clock on RTE 1, I never missed it and it opened up my eyes and ears to amazing music like this. The sheer effortless talent on display is incredible.
It is hard to believe musicians played in this tempo' before the wild up tempo style of traditional music came along. I'm amazed at how slow he was. Of course this was the proper tempo.
@ene1843 And i believe Paddy O'Brien Accordion and Sean Ryan Fiddle were related. Both wrote fantastic tunes, I am still surprised (and not) when I hear a tune that one of these Gents wrote. ... i.e. "he wrote that also !!!?"
Don't know if they were related but think they might have bee knew Sean Ryan and PO'Briens father who played fiddle. Some of Ryan is in the itma records.
Beautiful tempo. Makes such a difference. As my granny used to say, "...he was mad to get to the end of the tune".
Fabulous relaxed playing……from a Scottish trad music enthusiast…….many thanks
