Kerala is great as you had a lot of different subcultures as traders all the way from Greece, China and Ethiopia /Somalia were trading with Kerala. Also, they had the first Christians, the apostle Thomas that used to roam around with Jesus over 2,000 years came to Kerala from the Middle East and converted a lot of people. When the Portuguese arrived 1,500 years later they forced these Christians to convert to Catholicism. Majority did but some of the Syrian Christians still exist today. Most Indians do not know that Christians existed in India before the Portuguese or other Europeans. They go back over 2,000 years ago soon after the death of Jesus Christ. Apostle Thomas walked with Jesus, but when Jesus died all the friends of Jesus (Disciples) were told to go to the furthest parts of the earth and spread the faith of Christianity. Thomas must have heard from the traders about India and so he got on a ship for Kerala/Goa/TN. Apostle Bartholomew, another of Jesus's close associates came to Goa at the same time 2,000 years ago. All those Christians became Catholic by the Portuguese. Sadly the RSS is constantly harassing us Christians to summit to ghar waspi and become Hindu. Before our ancestors became Christian they could have been Buddhists, or even Jewish we don't know. I just hate that talk and harassment. Instead of building schools and hospitals they want to build temples, like we don't have enough temples in India. India is great because of its diversity. Modi will say that, but then he and the RSS are trying to undermine it. One mustn't tell lies all the time but they do. Very sad.
Oh! Really ?! But u don't look like Greek or Jew. U people look like Indians. Hindus gave their land to make ur Churches n houses..don't forget that....
So you brought religious politics to a pure food talk. How about also talking about the 'Inquisition' of the Portugues and the Churches that destroyed thousands of temples, killed lakhs of Hindu and forcibly converted Hindus to Christianity? The Konkani Gawda Saraswath Brahmin Community fled Goa and came to Kerala. What about the stealthy religious conversions through appeasement and favors offered to the poor Hindus by your Parhiris and Priests? When you say something - say it all. Don't bring out your VICTIM CARD PLAYING to gain sympathy. You people are no Angels. So shut up and eat.

He said wrong, please read the history. It was introduced in 1880-1885 C.E. by the then Maharaja of Travancore, Vishakham Thirunal Rama Varma after a great famine hit the kingdom, as a substitute for rice. Tapioca is widely consumed across Kerala. It is taken as breakfast or as a staple food.
Your explanation makes sense. And the plant is very commonly grown in Africa and parts of South America. It is possible the British first brought it to India and then introduced everywhere by the maharajas during the famines.
@@Dan-xx5jq Not British but Portuguese - origin is from Amazon not Africa. Even in Kerala until early 1940s it was available in Travancore and after independence moved to Northern Kerala with Travancore migrants. Travancore was not part of British / other Indo-European forces.
It is cultivated for food in Kerala and for starch in Tamilnadu. The sago and sago based products now available in market is mainly made from tapioca starch. Starch is also used in textile industry in Tamilnadu

Therefore hope she makes sure Malapurram is added n not incorrect or incomplete information. Sorry but something must be corrected. Cheers
Ofcourse yes... You can... Those people are really friendly. Usually kerala women not goes to toddy shops and those toddy shops, expects tourists. So no issues... Come to kerala, enjoy that refreshing chilled toddy with spicy pearl spot fish (karimeen) fry....
Sadly almost all the Indian Jews who lived for 2,000 years in Kerala no longer exist, as they have gone to Israel. I wish some younger ones would return and keep their houses of worship and traditions going. They face a lot of discrimination in Israel because of the complexion of their skin.
Foreign tourists prefer Kerala over Goa. If Kerala had beaches like Goa, no Foreign tourists would go to Goa. In the past Goa was great but now everyone from everywhere has moved to Goa to do tourism business and are now fleecing the tourists with bad products and services. The people do not overcharge in Kerala but if other people from North Indians move there to do tourism business their prices and quality will change, like in Goa.
