I was the Duty Manager at the original: The Regent, Hong Kong (started in 1989 for nearly 10 years)....as it was formally named. I was hired by Rudi Greiner, the founding GM and had the privilege of getting to know Bob Burns, Founder of The Regent Hotel, Hong Kong and developed it into a world-famous luxury brand. Remember The Beverly Wilshire & Pretty Woman...? That was a Regent Property ^_^
    It started as:
    The Regent, Hong Kong
    Four Seasons (second branding)
    Intercontinental (Third branding)
    Regent ~ Current brand.....
I also worked as a Chef in all the restaurants as well ~ We created "YU at The Regent" featuring LIVE seafood, which replaced the second floor of Plume Restaurant (Fine Dining).
Sadly I hate the new room designs, from what this video shared.....BUT the Public Spaces ~ Bars, Lounges and restaurants = Spectacular!
Thank you for sharing this experience......

Thank you for sharing, Robert! Must have been great to experience such a long history of this property.
Out of curiosity, is there anything specific you dislike about the rooms, such as the layout, etc.?

When it was the intercontinental, was it more plain? Which was best?

You'd have to see what the original room designs (elegant and classy) were to understand. Rooms now look like something out of GenX, hard to understand the designers concept...or maybe I'm just too old!

Hotels in Asia looks much better and more cozy than Europen Hotels

Definitely some great value to be had in them! Plus, the service is usually excellent :)
Back in Europe it can be a bit hit-or-miss

Isn't it a bit odd that you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the door entrance if you're sharing this room with someone like a friend or relative? It can be very awkward or even inconvenient if one person is showering or bathing and the other person is trying to enter or leave the room

That's a good point. Definitely a bit odd to have the bathroom as a space to pass through. I didn't mind being there with my wife, but it can be a bit odd indeed if you're there with someone you aren't as close with

@@unmatchedvoyages Actually, it is just not a bit but extremely. I was thinking of taking my mom to this place and now no more! Didn't you say they spent billions of HKD to renovate this hotel?? Did they even think about this??

    • @unmatchedvoyages
      @unmatchedvoyages  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@kelvinwong4804 My assumption is that they had certain constraints with the floorplan layout of the building, as well as e.g. ceiling height. A complete rebuild of the building might have cost a multiple of that.
It might be worth checking out if all the rooms have this layout or if there are some that are designed differently. We only got to see this one room type.

Thanks for the video. I'm going to spend my birthday there in June. I have been going to this hotel since 1992, when it was a Regent hotel. I stayed there multiple times when it was the Intercontinental. I was so looking forward to what they'd be doing with the makeover but I must say I am really disappointed with the revamp. While they may have been going for a zen look and feel, I personally think it's a very sad and unimpressive design. I'm hoping that it will look better in person but I'm not holding out high hopes.

Hey Charles, I hope you will still enjoy your stay there. While I generally agree with you that the change after the revamp could have been bigger, the atmosphere and especially the attention to detail in the Regent is still something that is hard to convey in a video and better to experience in person.

Reach out to the Manager and let thrm know you'll be celebrating your birthday.
Once they confirm at check-in with your passport, you might get an upgrade and some "Extras" to make special memories!
      Good luck and Happy Birthday!

It was a Regent, then it was an Intercontinental for a long time and now it's back to what it used to be, a Regent.
I think the renovation has been pretty failed and the market probably sees it that way too. The rates are sometimes 2-3 times lower than those of the competition.

It might also be a bad timing of the revamp since Hongkong's tourism landscape has changed a lot from more international tourists to mainland Chinese tourists.

Hi Dear, I hope you are doing well. I am a TH-cam video SEO expert. I was analyzing your TH-cam channel. I am really impressed by your videos, but your TH-cam channel has some issues. You have made many videos, but your TH-cam channel is not getting as many views and subscribers as expected. Because you have no complete SEO for any videos, no channel tags, and no video tags, if you SEO your videos, your subscribers and views will increase, and your channel will grow. Your video quality is very good, but the channel is not increasing due to not doing video SEO. By doing video SEO, the channel grows faster. I can help you if you want.
