    April Wine is a Canadian institution, part of the musical fabric of this country. Electric Jewels and Nature of the Beast are indelible icons of Canadian AM radio airplay back-in-the-day. I will always remember driving home from Cub-Scouts on Thursday nights before and after stopping at Mr. Donut for a huge chocolate donut and a coffee, and hearing April Wine on my Dad's '71 Plymouth Valiant one-speaker AM radio. It was all reassuring for me Canada was still moving forward in those days.

    April Wine is one of those bands that just slipped through the cracks for me. I never listened to a full album or ever considered them a band i would like. It's weird how that happens with certain bands.

    Hello, Grant.
    I've been hoppin' around TH-cam since Myles passed 2 days ago.
    I am absolutely gutted ,and shows like this bring a little solace.

    This Could Be the Right One was my formal introduction to April Wine. I might have heard older songs before without knowing whose they were. But 1983/84 was when I was first really exploring hard rock and heavy metal and I watched Friday Night Videos and Good Rockin Tonight every weekend waiting for heavy metal videos. So I remember This Could Be and the band sounded okay but too pop rock for me. I heard it a few times and could always remember the chorus. I also remember Saga’s Scratching the Surface from those days.

      @GrabAStackofRocK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrantsRockWarehaus Here's what you need to know - Tim knows this. In Canada we had the Pepsi Power Hour. It was my gospel. They played Helix all the time and never once played April Wine. So I grew up without them. When I started at the Record Store, everyone (everyone!) there hated April Wine. So I never heard them!

    I bought Nature of the Beast when it came out and that was my introduction to April Wine. For me that's been my hands down favorite. My Capitol/Aquarius OG vinyl did not have Caught in the Crossfire on it so it was nice to find it on the CD version. I picked up Power Play after that and thought it was just ok. I like harder rock and it was more radio friendly, so it didn't measure up to Nature for me. Now I appreciate it much more than I did back then. Only recently did I look back to the earlier stuff and realize how great Harder Faster is. My only complaint is it's too short at only 8 songs (and 1 of those is a cover). So for me it's 1 Nature. 2 Harder. 3. Power. 4. First Glance. 5 Attitude (great return to form). I need to spend more time with the other albums.

      Was it the "green line" Capitol budget pressing of NOTB?

    • @trencher7
      @trencher7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrantsRockWarehaus Yes. I just thought I got a bonus song with the CD and now I realized I just got robbed a song with this pressing. Wonder why they left it off.

    Walking Through Fire is the only album I don’t have. I’ve listened to songs on TH-cam and I don’t like it. The drums sound like popping balloons. The keyboards suck! Way too mid-eighties.

      It had some good songs, and they did a great version of "Rock Myself to Sleep", but knowing the whole story how they were essentially forced to do it due to contractual obligations and the fact 3 members didn't even bother to show up and they had to use studio musicians really tainted the product.

    • @musicisajourney
      @musicisajourney ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LIONSFAN-t1u I agree that two things to improve the album would be to have had the band record it and then to replace most of the keyboard solos with guitar solos!
