  • World renowned designer, Frank Stephenson, critiques his subscribers submitted designs.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This week, I cannot believe the standard of submission from someone of such a young age. At seven years old I didn't even know which end of the pen you had to write with, let alone draw a car that well! As always, thanks so much to everyone who submitted. I appreciate the courage it takes to put your work up and have it critiqued in front of the world.
    Enjoy,
    Frank

      Mr. Frank, forgive me the ignorance but how do i send a design to you. I would really appreciate an expert's opinion, i created some concepts for Ferrari, but I don't know if they are too generic. Remembering that I'm not a designer, i don't have much technique either, i'm just a passionate automotive design enthusiast. Thank you very much in advance.

    I love drawing cars but I was not drawing like that at 7 :) Amazing. I was not encouraged to draw more get an apprenticeship. I started drawing during lunch beaks when I was a mechanic fabricator 2005. I used to give sketches away. School pretty much put me off pursuing car design. I was told I was too thick to stay on. I was top in woodwork metal and art and design. It was all I wanted todo along with metal working panels. I enjoy reworking existing old designs. But to get a real glimpse of your designer mind is fantastic and very insightful.

I cant be a designer but I'm into coach building and custom cars. I still need to brush up my rendering style tips from a master would be fantastic. Tools those elipes guides. I draw by hand but would love a even more expressive designer style. I am a self taught.
      I'm designing a 67 Eldorado Town Car. One day I hope to build it for rear my life goal. But would love to do a polished rendering using those amazing chunky markers.
      A town car in the traditional sense is socially not relevant now let alone the 60s but Sbarro is another influential. I also enjoyed your designs as a kid. Just to reply to a comment is heart warming. Sorry to be so gushy 😃 my real name is David I get called edgar by my mechanic friends because I love old cars bikes etc right old edgar.
      I would at school would during lunch breaks go to the library and study the industrial design books and art. I even got the school library to get more books 😀 alas things did not work out. I was told to leave school even though I wanted to go to art school uni. Undiagnosed autism and dyslexia.
      Your guidance teacher says you are too thick to stay on you wont be a car designer. Very crushing knocked the confidence. So I let it go.

      Claro que si hombre. Como todos los puestos de trabajo, un diseñador empieza su carrera con un salario digamos normal. Ni bien, ni mal. Según vas subiendo de nivel, y a base del éxito de tu trabajo, irás ganando más y más, hasta el nivel de director y jefe de diseño donde te pagarán un salario bastante enorme que te permitirá de llevar un vida muy pero que muy cómoda. El problema está en que los que preguntan como tú difícilmente llegarán a este nivel ya que para tener éxito en esta profesión tienes que hacerlo por amor y pasión, y además deberías creer Alonso que lo harías incluso gratis.

    • @velay
      @velay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i translated it for others :)
      Of course, man. Like all jobs, a designer starts his career with a let's say normal salary. Not good, not bad. As you go up in level, and based on the success of your work, you will earn more and more, up to the level of director and head of design where you will be paid a fairly huge salary that will allow you to lead a very, very comfortable life. The problem is that those who ask like you will hardly reach this level since to be successful in this profession you have to do it out of love and passion, and you should also believe Alonso that you would do it even for free.

      @@FrankStephensondesign Señor Frank muchas gracias por responder! Es un honor para mi poder hablar con usted, habla muy bien español! Cuantos idiomas habla? Yo no soy diseñador, solo soy un aficionado a los automoviles y me gusta mucho lo que tiene que ver con el diseño. Tengo una pregunta para usted, ¿Por qué las marcas de automóviles cambian constantemente a sus jefes de diseño? Creo que no duran mas de 8 años en el cargo. Por ejemplo en Lamborghini, Luc Donckerwolke estuvo de jefe de diseño por cerca de 7 años, hizo un gran trabajo creando el Murcielago y Gallardo, y luego lo cambiaron por Filippo Perini que diseñó el Aventador, y ahora tienen otro Jefe de diseño. Si un jefe de diseño hace un buen trabajo, por qué no continúa? Por qué los cambian? Esto es algo que se repite en varias marcas. ¿A que se debe los cambios? Muchas gracias por su atención. Ojalá usted nos pueda contar en un video más sobre cómo trabaja el equipo de diseño cuando la compañía les encarga un proyecto.6
