AJ's tips are fantastic for beginner and intermediate opponents, but I just wanted to note that the deck-culling strategy is too slow against an expert cowboy player. If you're investing in engineers, the best way to win is by moving your train all the way around the track, and sending it backward with slaughtered cows will not allow that to happen against someone who can make their deliveries just as quickly and with better cows. By the time you get those 1 & 2 point cards out of your deck, the cowboy player will have a herd of 4 & 5 pointers and be looking to end the game even quicker.
Overall, this video provides sound strategic advice regarding the focus on a specific avenue to victory, and includes the best tip for new players: making early deliveries to Kansas City for the cash. Losing those points is scary, and on the surface it's a terrible dollar-to-VP ratio, but I've never seen someone win without doing it against someone who did.

@@CampVogel it all is situational. Builders and Rails strat can still win quite easy if other two players go cowboy rush.

This game is so good. And yeah, AJ tries to blitz all games, :P. I vote Thunderstone Quest for next season!

LOL It seems that's his go-to strategy for this type of games, and it's totally legit! Thank you for your suggestion!

I doubt that rushing works in GWT as in the other mentioned games. In GWT each player independent of game duration can have at most 1 turn more than any opponent to make Victory Points (VPs). Though probabilities adjusts slightly to player count, GWT is about making 5-7 deliveries / player. So if you are lucky (or better: your opponents will help you not to slow down the game by either putting all possible type 3 tipi tiles into game or construct in your way) at max you reach 2 times more often Kansas City. More likely your are about to expect to have exactly 1 more delivery focusing on that goal. Then rushing affects your probabilities to score the higher value cities scoring more VPs. So better make sure, that your extra delivery is not that one, that brought you negative 6 VP for rushing. Even if you make good money in Kansas it does not automatically convert into many VP, if you do not reach the places with good timing. In the end it is all about making more VP / turn than your oponents. I always try to rush for VP looking what places I can make them before my oponents.

AJ is just explaining a strategy that has worked for him. I've seen this method working first hand and it's definitely not invalid, but it of course won't always work out as expected 100 percent of the time.

It's definitely not a conventional strategy and could backfire if not executed perfectly in GWT; however, we have seen it work several times, especially when other players caught on too late.

Tells that the goal is to end as fast as possible and plays the slowest strategy possible: culling.
That strategy won't work vs any decent player.
