MAC reformulated and the new NC5 is actually pale! It's lighter than NC10 now. See my video on the new shade here: th-cam.com/video/nk0OKBa3Y08/w-d-xo.html
Your video is very helpful. I have the same problem! It’s embarrassing that Mac doesn’t have a pro long wear concealer in nc10. Also is disappointing , that no lighter shades are avaible!
@@frecknic of course! Ha honestly how hard can it really be to have a pale shade? I just don't exactly see the high demand for this particular color is all I'm saying
nicole - pale and freckled someone on Instagram said that MAC is going to release an NC2. She was telling me that NC5 is lighter than KVD’s lightest shade 40 and I just found out today that it’s BS as I bought this because she said so. Idk if the NC2 is true or not but I do hope that it is as NC5 is such a joke for being a pale shade
I just got NC5 and I thought I was going crazy until I saw your review and where I live, I can’t return when it’s already opened 😭 Side by side in the bottle, NC5 looks a little bit on the yellow side. When I swatched on my hand, NC10 looks pinkier and darker on me than NC5. I think it’s because I’m a yellow undertone as pink undertone foundations always make me look darker. When I put a pink undertone foundation on my face, even if it’s light enough, I look dark. Maybe NC10 and NC5 are the same shade lightness but they’re different undertones? I don’t know what MAC was thinking when they formulated this NC5 shade. I’m just disappointed. The only consolation I can give myself is that I can use a foundation mixer and the undertone won’t look too crazy on me. Thank you for your review! Now I know that I’m not color blind or something
Yeah I was so confused too! Such an odd choice. While everyone else is making paler foundations, they make their lightest shade have a richer undertone? Glad the undertone at least works better for you!
nicole - pale and freckled for a makeup brand used by professional makeup artists, it’s really odd they don’t make a foundation mixer. I’d be over the moon if they did!
@@alicec2939 they have a white Face and Body (which I have used a fair amount but it's not super pigmented and can change formula mixing into) and also in the Airbrush foundation which I haven't used. Wish more companies would bring out a white in existing foundation lines.
I got a deluxe sample of beauty blender bounce foundation sent to me. It is in blend 1.20, which is lightest shade in warm category. I couldn't figure what reminded me of. Watching this I realized what reminded me of. It is reminding me of Mac NC 10, it is too dark for me but undertone correct, both are breaking my heart.
Now I'm glad I didn't buy the beauty blender foundation I hadn't seen anyone with very pale skin even reviewing it regardless of undertone and decided not to get it. Thanks for the info!
nc10 is much more neutral to me compared to nc5. I find nc5 oxidizes too. I wish it stayed the colour that it is when it's first applied. It's crazy dark in your swatch. I need to swatch it and see the before and after on my arm. nc5 is darker than nc10?? that is crazy!
I really don't understand why they called this shade NC5 and it's deeper looking than NC10 due to the golden vs neutral undertones, really odd choice. I also find NC10 oxidizes throughout the day on me. 😣
Thank you! I had high hopes for NC5, I can't believe it's actually darker than NC10! NC10 is a tiny bit dark on me and I was really curious if NC5 might be a perfect match, since I really like the formula of the foundation. This is a big disappointment.
So helpful, I just love the studio fix fluid but I can't seem to find a good match. I started with nw10 but it was way to pink, the changed to N4 but even if it is bettet it still is a little bit too pink, I believe fron your swatches that nc10 could be the one.
For me NC5 is lighter than NC10 but it still makes me look pink even tho I have yellow undertones and it is said that the foundation has gold undertones??
@@lenal2662 they reformulated and changed the shade of NC5 recently, I have a new video on that new NC5. I know for me when something is a little too light/not enough yellow foundation sometimes looks pink from my redness shining through. video on the new shade: th-cam.com/video/nk0OKBa3Y08/w-d-xo.html
I may try a sample of nc5 because I feel like I'm golden (especially in summer) more so than "yellow" though if I use a picture of mine next to you, I look neutral/pink but in person I'm definitely neutral/yellow. Why did they call it "5" though?! You look really pretty in both on camera!
Thank you! Definitely worth getting a sample! I would also keep an eye on it through the day, I've noticed both oxidize even a bit more by the end of day on me.
Odd question: does Cloud from Too Faced seem a little white/pink in person? My issue - even with the fairer Smashbox shades - is that they lean a little white/pink on me so I picked up 1.05 and the sample seemed perfect but I get something completely different each time I wear it from the bottle. It has looked perfect once, then pink (but it's warm/olive??) and dark - almost reminding me of NC5. We need to have a meet up with a bunch of us so we can swatch, switch and figure out the best shade for all of us, lol.
@@jenns.4187 I'll look at Cloud in the morning and let you know! I was expecting the .1 in Smashbox Studio Skin to be too fair on me but it oddly isn't and sometimes feels like it's oxidizing a little darker through the day. I just need to do a wear test to figure out what's going on so I can see it on camera 😅
@@jenns.4187 Okay so I just revisited a bunch of Instagram posts to refresh my memory on how Cloud looks on me face. Almost all of these new extremely fair colors look a tad white/pink on me due to being pretty heavily neutral not having enough yellow/olive for my skin. So my neck will look a little yellow in comparison. But seriously, I think it's really nitpicking. I don't think anyone else notices but since I'm hyperaware of shade match issues, it seems really obvious to me personally. I'd get a sample if you can and see how you like it.
MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof in NW13 is their palest foundation. They just released something similar to Face and Body with more shades, I've ordered C0 but I haven't seen it in person yet to compare.
I wear NC10 in Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation because I need something fast when I’m in a hurry. It’s too dark and too pink for my skintone, but the MAC lady recommended C2, and it was way too dark and pink-it was orange on my face! I can’t wear Studio Fix Fluid because it contains chemical sunscreen, which highly irritates my skin. I also wear Too Faced Born this Way in Swan, which is about the same shade as NC10-too dark and too pink. My neck is darker than my face, so I try to match to my neck. A MAC lady recommended the shade Burnt Spice in the Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick, and I was wondering if you had tried it and if you recommend that shade. My best liquid lipstick color is Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Ludwig. My second best color is Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick in Nude Chica (Iluvsarahii collection). I bought 2 Nude Chica lipsticks! 😂 I didn’t want to run out anytime soon! They’re so hydrating, and that is the only shade light enough for me that they have at the moment. Anyway, I thought Burnt Spice looked gorgeous online, but wasn’t sure how it would look in person. Oh, and my best lipstick match in traditional lipsticks is Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color in Blush-it’s gorgeous!! I’m also really curious about MAC lipstick in Blankety. One of my favorite TH-camrs, Arna Alayne, adores that shade! I’m actually looking for a more sheer concealer, so I may get Studio Fix Concealer in NC10. Thank you so much for your review, Nicole!! I’m so happy I found your channel! Enjoy the rest of summer! 🤗
I haven't tried Burnt Spice and I really struggle generally with nude lipsticks. I think generally the undertones on lighter ones don't mesh with my yellowy undertones. But when I'm looking at something new, I'll see if temptalia has a swatch of it and if it looks like a nice nude on her I know it'll likely look sort of dark and probably not great on me. 😄 I have a playlist called Pale Skin Swatches and it's mostly lipstick swatches, I created it because of the issue I have figuring out what a nude might look like on me. I really like the Ofra x Nikkietutorials Nude Potion for a fairly light pink leaning nude - most don't look right on me but I really enjoy that formula and shade. For my standard warm nude, I reach for Maybelline Creamy Matte in Nude Embrace, Milani Matte Innocence and something a little deeper Milani Matte Naked. I don't buy a lot of high-end lips and generally have better luck with bolder colors looking good on my face. Hope that helps a little! 😅
This whole thing is just so confusing! I don't even buy MAC, but I was rooting for them 😭 I guess I'll take my NC5 shade reference out of my videos for now since that obviously is NOT my shade.
It's landed in Australia too. I swatched it in store and I didn't know what was going on, it looked darker than NC10. I do love my NC10 because my neck is very neutral, my face can have a lot of red especially at those times when rashes break out, it's just a shade too dark. Though like you my face is slightly darker than my neck. I have to say when you talk about redness on your face, I can't see it, maybe it's the lights? I still haven't decided whether I'll get the estee lauder 0N1 Alabaster it looked really light and maybe slightly pink in your swatch? I do think my perfect match may be the makeup forever HD foundation in Y205 Alabaster, though I wasn't sold on the formulation.
I think the Estee Lauder Alabaster is fairly similar to the MUFE Y205 - have your tried the new Matte Velvet Skin formula in Y205? I never had any luck getting the HD formulas to wear well but the new matte version wears more like Double Wear for me. My redness is not super strong and it definitely gets washed out a little in the lighting. I think my current skincare has toned it down a tad. But I also notice it more when wearing a foundation that's a little too light as it'll read a little pink on camera.
I'm thinking I'll take the plunge with the Estee Lauder alabaster. I don't think the Matte Velvet Skin formula is available in Australia. It can be hard over here to get a foundation that will last in summer, and for me I really like a good neutral shade. I get really self conscious with my redness which is why I don't like the pale, pink foundations.
@@BeccT if Alabaster doesn't work straight from the bottle for you I've found it mixes well with other stuff. I do have a demo/review video up on it if you want to see how it looks on me, like a lot of the new very fair shades it's right on the edge of too light and looking a little pink because the white aspect doesn't cover the pink in my skin as well. So when I wear it, I like to mix a touch of something more olive/yellow toned into it. It's probably two or three shades lighter than NC10 after they've both dried down.
I did watch the video that you did on it and looked quite good, though your undertone is olive while I fall more into the neutral category, it was just the swatch above on your arm where it appeared slightly pink. Hopefully it'll be not too light and neutral enough to cover my redness. If it is like a dupe of the MUFE HD Y205 in regards to colour, it should work I just might have to use a bit of bronzer and slightly more blush to make it look less flat.
