its a very fun game once you learn the game mechanics, each characters had different ways to kill you opponents kinda like brutalities, also, this game have a unique arcade mode were if you don't kill your opponent, the first time, you will fight them again a second time later. but if the opponent kill you, it was game over and you have to restart all over again.
I had a nintendo power back in the day that had all the finishing moves. Some of them were crazy to pull off. One I could never get was the one where Zarak wraps you in spider webs and then cuts you in half. Easiest one was Bane's spinning skull smasher. I would love a remake of this game.

I really wish we could have seen them actually do some moves and see how different and amazing the controls are. Too bad Max initially assumed that anything that came out on button release was negative edge instead of exactly how it was intended to be operated. This is a game that I would just love to have an intact version of with a consistent frame rate. It had a lot going for it - Parry, weapon clash, a different array of special moves, multiple part brutalities, and that Frank Frazetta art style.
Supposedly, Namco used this game and its intricate parry system as inspiration for the Soul Edge/Calibur series. Characters have 10 unique moves. This game was criticized at the time for being too complex for novices.
This game has depth on par with KI2 arcade with it's excellent parry/counter system. I owned it on Sega Genesis where it played faster and better, though there were infinites in the game. The multi-tiered finishers were rewarding when you pulled them off. I wish they would re-do this for next gen consoles. James goddard helmed this game and worked on it, same guy who is responsible for KI for Xbox one for it's game mechanics and how great it played. It's still my favourite fighter, and never gets the praise it deserves. Tons of replay value if you put the time in to get good at it!
Literally was a modem cartridge with a phone jack on the side that you put into the console first and then the compatible game on top of the X-Band cartridge exactly like Sonic & Knuckles.
One thing I appreciate the whole weapons "clash" system. I wouldn't figure a game this old would have a mechanic like that.
People forget, you could do multiple fatalities to your opponent at the end of the match with certain special moves. It was really gory but fun too.

I've been waiting for the longest for them to play this game. 😅 It's very technical for a old game, but the learning curve is huge.

This game looks pretty awesome, love the art style and character designs, there should be more games with this type of style these days.
The art style is 90s af, but in a good way. That, the backgrounds and the darkly atmospheric music really impress me to this day.
