    That's the fun thing about Belgium. It doesn't matter of it's legal or not. Who f*cking cares. It's like a drone. No one actually knows what's legal or not. Just handle the thing responsible, and no one will bat an eye.

      Yeah because think of all the money they will lose from parking permits and parking tickets if everybody started riding scooters. No speeding tickets, red light tickets, or handicap parking registration or tickets.

    Great video im glad to see a fellow M365 owner
    I have the full version it does 30km and takes 100kg i would highly recommend it its awesome, thats what the manufacturer claims ive done 22km on one charge and i weigh 75kg which is frankly amazing for something with no visible power source. Also you dont get spare tyres with the it, ive no idea why you think that.
    You really need to buy a solid tyre for the rear as a puncture is super difficult to deal with and that slime stuff doesnt work. Xiaomi bought Segway and in the EU and the US they sell them as segway, the newer versions of them anyway the m365 is 3 years old now.. There is no warranty with xiaomi in the EU, i had a hall sensor issue out the box which i had to fix myself which was a pain. Its a lot more expensive but if you can afford it buy the segway ES2 the m365 is like the 1st attempt and its great but there is a eunos which is the 2nd one and the segway es1 and es2 which are 3rd generation even though these are from different companies its the same factory and engineers and the design is much more refined by then. Id recommend buying that one it also has a range extender battery that attaches to it. the segway ones are much more expensive so if your happy to risk no warranty and safe a fortune ( like half the price) sure get a m365 ( not youth) I waited for a sale and got it for £300. The retail on the es2 is like £549 but it has a much better hinge, a 1 inch suspension which is a huge improvement and a few other improvements for flaws that appear over time. nothing product breaking just 1st gen vs 3rd gen stuff.

    I am in same area as you. The streets looked familiar :) I have the m365 full version. It is a great scooter. The only issue is when you run a flat. There are some great YT vids demonstrating step by step how to get the wheel off. (lot of screws) but removing/putting back the tire itself can be a serious pain in the ass. The thing that also proved to be useful is to get one of those bike mounts for your smartphone. That way you can use Waze or whichever nav app you like when you visit a city/area you are not familiar with.

    Had one for about half a year. Things to be cautious about, the tires are almost a pain to change if you have a flat. However you can get conversion tires that are solid (aliexpress), though you do lose a little traction and wouldn't recommend on slippery roads. But it is good alternative since you don't have to worry about punctures or tire pressure. Whatever you do, do not ever drop this scooter, first thing to go is the bell handle (part where it clips down when folded), and the next is the kickstand. These two parts break of very easily and there is no glue strong enough to bond it back together.
    Feel free to post and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
    BTW it weighs around closer to 14-15kg. Alright to carry if you're taking taking it out on flat road but you'll regret taking it up and down several flights of stairs daily.

    I have the regular m365 normal battery and the weight is a bit heavy to lug around, our train service in Canada is decent but commuters still dont like you very much with a scooter on the floor. Its an ongoing reason to bump into you, so it was good to see other travel systems are more friendly towards eco friendly travel. I use the scooter to avoid parking at the train station.
    I use a push scooter now, razor a5 air, only weighs 5.5 Kg with pneumatic wheels, its a push scooter but better for short range due to the form factor.

    I got myself an electric folding bike and it's absolutely amazing. The range of the scooter would not be enough for me and I know for a fact that it wouldn't be legal here in Germany.
    The bike has a stated range of 70km and if the battery indicator is anywhere near accurate, I can believe that. (Haven't ridden it that far yet)
    It can also go 25 km/h (often slightly more, actually) and, while it does take slightly longer to fold up, you can still fold it in like 10 seconds.
    It was a lot more expensive, though, I'll give you that.

I was told that if I were "caught" riding my e-MTB I would get three fines. One for not wearing a crash helmet, one for not having a number plate and one for not having insurance. My e-MTB is over 250W, has a throttle (as well as pedelec). The throttle means it's classed a "motor" bike, hence the three fines!
    I usually ride off road, and often disconnect the throttle if I'm in town.

    • @davidlt
      @davidlt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      There were changes in 2017 to the EU standards. 25kph cut off and up to 1kW engine power is considered "assisted bicycle", but it needs to have "type approval" (certificate of conformity). Quote: In the new type-approval, there are 2 categories that can accommodate electric bikes. L1e-A is for “powered cycles” with a maximum speed of 25 km/h and maximum 1 kW of power. L1e-B is for “mopeds” with maximum 45 km/h and 4 kW. So-called speed pedelecs up to 45 km/h come under this category.
      Now the throttle is complicated question. Basically it's still open question (?), but consensus is that it's fine as long as it in 25kph / 250W category (defined in separate standard, does not require anything) and 25kph / 1kW category (aka L1e-A category, defined in separate standard, type approved).

      davidlt Thanks David, that's good to know, a move in the right direction. My bike is a bit of a frankenstein, self built, so no type approval, and probably fits into the higher power category. I only really use it on the road when there's no off road alternative.

    • @davidlt
      @davidlt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am looking deeper into this. The regulation for new categories are here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2078/0975/files/EU_L1e-A_Regulation.pdf?2502859001790126765#page=43
      IIRC the rules still are different in each country. E.g, in Belgium L1e-A does not need to registered and only requires you to always have CoC (Certificate of Conformity). Now in France you need to register, have insurance and driving license.
      So it's still good to check requirements in your own country.
      This is another good document which covers the current state in EU: bike-eu.com.s3-eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/app/uploads/2015/09/rules-regulation-on-electric-cycles-in-the-european-union-may-2017.pdf
      Basically in EU we have now categorized electronic bicycles in 3 categories and we have defined proper requirements for them. Registration, insurance, helmet requirement, etc. are still different between countries with requires more work.
      E.g., 25kph, up to 1kW which is L1e-A will require AM license and minimal age. If you have 25kph, up to 250W the rules as as normal bicycle (some countries still have minimal age requirement).

      I've been thinking about one as well but here in the Netherlands they're not allowed for now. The electric step would fall into the moped category for vehicles and therefore need a vehicle identification tag stamped into the frame, a number plate as well as basic road insurance. To get those things you need to have the step tested by the authorities which is something the manufacturer needs to do as far as I know. Also for now there're no steps that have been approved so far as far as I'm aware. On TV they discussed it and there was a guy who's step was taken by the police, the guy was fined and eventually the step destroyed "because we don't want untested motorised junk on the road" according to the ministry...

    I België is het vanaf 16 jaar legaal om elektrische voertuigen (steps, hoverboards, etc.) tot 25 km/h en brommers tot 25 km/h aan 50cc te besturen zonder rijbewijs :D

      Volgens mij is het illegaal in België omdat het niet valt onder 'elektrische' fiets die intussen wel regels kent. Een gemotoriseerd voertuig (zonder verplichte pedaalsturing) moet je 'inschrijven' voor een nummerplaat, verzekering, helm, knipperlichten... Daartegenover staat dat er nog niet genoeg van deze nieuwe dingen op straat zijn en dat het dus niet veel zin heeft om er nieuwe regels voor te maken.
      Persoonlijk vind ik dat we elektrische voertuigen moeten promoten door bvb. geen regels op te leggen voor alles wat elektrisch is en de onder 25km/u zit. Het is immers al het geval voor de elektrische fietsen. Op die manier zullen meer mensen er voor kiezen en blijft het veilig genoeg. (Immers voor hoofdletsels is een auto gevaarlijker en daar is toch ook geen helm verplicht tenzij misschien op circuit)

    I am seriously considering this. I have a Dahon folding bike, but it does take a few minutes to fold up or to restore to a riding state and is heavy to carry around. You invariably arrive at your destination covered in perspiration and that is the greatest problem with cycling. As with cycling, it will be highly advisable to wear a helmet.

    I have owned 4 e-scooters. They are really useful for short distance commuting(usually around 10km trip) whereby getting onto a public transport is less convenient.
    Regarding the maintenance issue, all tools require some sort of tuning and maintenance. IF you buy a car, you need to regularly check its performance, the same goes for e-scooters, but they are far less complicated. Some oiling and checking for loose bolts are required if you plan to use them for a long time. A very worthy investment.

    The real trouble with those things is as you say that the legal situation is complicated. I dont know about Belgium, but in Germany for instance they are not legal at all to my knowledge. In Switzerland they are legal and dont require a number plate (unlike for instance a segway which requires a number plate), but only on the street (or bycicle lane I thing) but deifnitely not on the pavement, and in Austria the situation is almost the same (if they support only up to 25 km per hour).
