I haven't touched the 50mm Summicron since getting the new 50mm Summilux close focus. Especially at the 50mm focal length, the close focus ability opens up a whole new world of looks (but you need a screen or electronic viewfinder to focus closer than .7 meters.)
I use a Leica 50mm F1.4 Summilux as my main lens on my M11. That lens is so incredibly sharp, it gathers a ton of light, and the focal length feels really natural for me. It’s rare that I take that lens off. Thanks for another fantastic gear video!
Same for me… I’ve used just about everything working at news papers / news outlets including the latest canons, Sonys etc with all of their fancy wizardry … but the SL2-s is my favourite non M body. It’s so well made, rugged, pure photo but with cine video capability. I was just using it out in the rain today and it didn’t skip a beat. As a Leica shooter it compliments my M so well.
Hey there ! Thanks for sharing the kit ;) I always admire the commitment of photographers who use the M10-D (as much as M6 etc...). Actually, I bought a case for my M11 which allow me to hide the entire screen face of the body, to push me shooting like if I was using a film camera, and focus myself only on the rangefinder and viewfinder. But to be honest, it is quite hard as I am still not 100% confident shooting with M. But I keep improving myself and I believe my photography has never been better thanks to the M experience, which is a wonderful journey ! About your futur SL2-S, why don't you want to wait for the SL3 to come ? I guess it will be there in Q1 24 ... Cheers :)
I love this , thanks for sharing and that is a cool idea about the case :). Yeah I might get an SL2s and then also get the SL3 when it comes out that way I’m covered for commercial photography too.
Lovely video. Great camera you have a lenses. The Sl2s is great. i added the 50mm 1.4 SL to my set up. Big and heavy, but wow, produces some nice stuff. Perhaps a more sensible lens is the 24mm-90mm
What is your opinion about the print quality? And how good will it be when you are printing a photo that was done by a a camera with a high quality lens such as the Q or the M?
For a keepsake I’d say it’s great , for professional use no as it’s too small. I printed the rhino photo from a M10D and it looks nice but it still looks like an insta camera print .
Given that f/4 is sufficient for your telephoto work, any reason you didn’t go for the 90 Macro collapsible? It would shrink the kit a bit more. One more thought - M11-D. You know it has to be coming sometime.
How much do you crop when shooting with your 35? and looking forward to your SL review, one of those summicron-SL lenses has the volume of your entire current kit :)
I have the M10R black paint. But for my lens is the Mandler 50f2 Summicron with the built in hood. That lens is a legend. Not really interested in the 50 lux. The close focus is annoying and I never shoot at bigger than f2.8, so I would rather have a small and light lens. I have a Nokton 35f1.4 which is tiny, but I don’t like the feel of it. So I’ll probably end up replacing it with a cron.
I'm in a desaturated phase, leave me alone. Ha ha, no, i was using a flat profile and my color skills in Davinci aren't polished yet. Also, since that episode is filmed farther away from the natural light I normally use it wasn't fanstastic.
M11 + SL2-S with (M lenses) Elmarit 28mm v2, LLL 50mm Speed Pancro 2 replica, 90mm Summicron V2. Traded my entire FX6 kit for the M11 because the video capability on the SL2-S is incredible for the form factor. The Speed Pancro matches up really well with the 90mm Summicron (surprisingly) so if I need to film an interview I can set those two up for a wide and a tight generally.
I messed up a setting in this one as my assistant had changed something and by the time I noticed it was too late . Future videos won’t look like this , thanks.
Thanks , couldn’t use natural light and shot in a flat profile by accident and didn’t have proper tilme/ skills in Davinci to fix so I gave you guys “flat Justin” for one episode.

That new version is very tempting Greg, glad to hear you like it and the closer focusing is more important than most people realize.
But the APO Summicron-M 50 is a whole other experience. I have the new Lux, but will still get the APO Summicron.
@@johnkasianowicz6536 and there’s always the 50 Noctilux to get too!

Same here. The Summilux 50 is almost permanently glued to my M10M.
This is feeding my fire to get one soon , thanks Dale.
Don’t glue it , it’s bad for the camera :).
Good call on the SL2-S! It’s become on of my favorite bodies of all time and pairs perfect with an M kit 👏🏼
It’s long overdue for me.

Cranking out the videos!! Another informative segment. Nice kit!!
Indeed, I had these bottled up for so long so now I'm letting them loose.
Love that eames chair
the sl2s and the sigma 35 dg dn f2 is an awesome combo. that lens is so small but renders beautifully. aperture ring, metal hood. just yummy.
I never thought of that combo Magnus , thanks for sharing.
You can use the EVF on the M10D and a live view for macro that way.
I’ve considered that but I’m going to get an SL2S instead :)
@@AskMOTT It's probably a safe bet that the 60MP SL3 is not far out. Maybe wait a little for better offers on the SL2S?
Heard and read good things about the Leica SL2. Ergonomics. Color science. I enjoy your videos. Tim.
Thaks Tim, I've borrowed the SL2-S several times and even used it on a recent assignment but never pulled the trigger but it's time soon to do so.

@@AskMOTT It seems to be a great plan indeed ! :) Enjoy !
Great video. What type of tape do you use to cover up the logo on top of the camera?
Thanks Joseph, I use black gaffer tape.
Great setup indeed. interested to learn more about that beautiful black leather cord where did you find it ?
Hi Justin, this is so helpful. What macro lens would you use to pair with an SL2 that you can recommend (Leica or third party brands)?
The 21mm Elmar that you are using is v1 or v2? Looking into that lens as well.

I don’t crop a ton but sometimes I like using a 50mm . I’ve tested those SL lenses, heavy, but I don’t mind heavy for commercial work.
Would you say the Sofort 2 has the "Leica Look"??
To be honest no , I feel that comes w spending the money on quality glass.
What do you think about leica and lumix partnership lumix s5 with leica branded lenses these not far behind...
Not a bad setup there
Thanks , simple , but it works for me .
My next camera will be a Q3 for 28mm & 35mm & use my M10-R for 50mm & higher@@AskMOTT

Looks very grey and muted in the studio/apartment. What's going on?
Yes, I thought that too, though the example images were fine.
I'm in a desaturated phase, leave me alone. Ha ha, no, i was using a flat profile and my color skills in Davinci aren't polished yet. Also, since that episode is filmed farther away from the natural light I normally use it wasn't fanstastic.
Probably still in log -
No worries though still a great video.
I still subbed after watching, so all good!
Yes yes I messed up , leave me alone ha ha . Won’t make that mistake again :).
What's your current camera set-up?
Fuji gfx100s (assorted lenses) and the XH2s ( assorted primes) for video
M10 and Q for fun stuff. Sony a7iii and a7siii for commercial/studio and video jobs
@@TedNghiem That's a nice set up indeed Ted. When are you visitng Vietnam again?
M11 and Voightlander 40mm f1.2 Nokton as main and Leica SL2 to accompany it.

That Leica Sofort is just a repackaged Fuji Mini Evo for twice the price 😃 I do like that 135 f/4!
So you do not own any batteries for your Leica?
Must be hard taking pictures.
Nope, who needs them.

Why are all the videos with yourself in the frame super dim?
I messed up a setting in this one as my assistant had changed something and by the time I noticed it was too late . Future videos won’t look like this , thanks.

@@AskMOTT haha alright as a colorist I'll give you a pass this one time!
Justin - your video is VERY DARK…thanks for a good show…
Yup, I messed that one up in the color grading.
Video looks like you you want no view at all
Well I got plenty of views relative to my channel so I’m good but yeah color was messed up this time and won’t be in the future .
what happened to your color grading in this video bruhh. i thought its my monitor having issues seeing you in almost black and white
It was crap , human error what happen again :).
