I like how another photographer explains what kind of gear they like to use and why. Whether that fits my photography doesn't matter but it gives me an idea of how I should be approaching gear purchases.
Thanks, this is how I like to approach talking about gear and I don’t like to push my gear on other people because what’s right for me might not he right for others.
Just watched your vid from 4 years ago about your M10-D long term review and was thinking “he loves this so much. I wonder if he’s still loving it.” And now I have the answer. Amazing.
I’ve just sold my M10-R for an M10-D (yet to arrive) and I cannot wait. I’m a film shooter and when I shoot digital I want the same kind of experience. Glad to hear someone like yourself loving the camera after the years and putting it to great use. Doesn’t seem to be many of them around
Thought this was going to be a Leica fan boy video. However, I'm very glad you proved me wrong. Nice and interesting video and I really appreciate the way you segmented your gear and explained why you bought it and how you used it. One of the best videos concerning a Leica set up I've seen. Thank you :)
Thank you my friend, I'm happy you liked it :).
Have to agree that your favorite camera, M 10-D, is rightly deserved. I`m biased about that since my favorite is the MD 262...!
Justin, first, happy holidays! I watched your first SL2s + 24-90mm video in Japan and was wondering if you kept "the beast" - and you did. I'm seriously considering it even though heavy for the same reasons. I don't go out all day so it might work out well as my only SL lens for the SL3 I'll own. I found a few good ones used if I pull the trigger. I have a 28 cron, 50 1.4 close up, and the 75 APO M lenses so been doing fine with those. But if rain or just want a one for all lens the 24-90 sounds really good. Love your gear videos and your honesty about the world of photography. I'm not a pro but much of it applies to all us hackers as well. Thanks and have a wonderful new year!!
Sold my M10-D ahead of the M11-D (I'm on the wait list); In the meantime, I'm using an M10M, SL2S and Q3. Most of my glass is Mandler-era lenses as I prefer the rendering.
How can you be on an m11d waitlist when there hasn’t been an announcement?
@@jayocotube6483 Worst kept secret. Dealers have waitlists already.
I don't think I'll personally upgrade to the M11-D, ,at least not any time soon.
@@jayocotube6483 he knows someone that knows someone
@@jayocotube6483 Probably with the help of a friendly dealer.
Great video! I am only using two lenses right now with my nikon Zf, a voigtlander 50 f/1 , and the Nikon 35 f/1.4 S lens. I can use my wotancraft pilot bag with room for a couple of spare batteries, cards and lens cleaner. All the gear I need.
❤
I use a nondescript shopping bag for street shooting, in it goes the M240 + 28, M10 + 50 and a 21 & 90 in a small pouch in the shopping bag. All Mandler lenses
What couldn't you do with a Canon R- kit instead of your Leicas? I am very comfortable with my Canon R6 MkII, sometimes paired with the RF 35mm F1.8 Macro, or the RF 50mm Nifty-Fifty. And as workhorse the excellent RF 24-105 F4 L IS USM zoom lens.
I used to work with Leicas - M and R - during the film era, but when the digital era began Leica became too expensive for me. Nowadays I couldn't justify the cost for a Leica equipment, and I am not sure you will see any difference in image quality once the photographs are printed.
Justin: how concerned are you in taking your rangefinder cameras and lenses on trips where you are likely to run into rainy weather. I recently went to Southeast Asia and was afraid to take my Leica M10-R and lenses, so I took a more rugged and cheaper camera that just doesn’t inspire me. Maybe I am overly worried about getting water damage to my rangefinder. I do have a SL2S that I would trust more in challenging weather conditions but it is heavier and I feel that I stand out more with it in the crowd.
Leica Q and SL with 75mm Cron is all I need for work (reportage). M film and digitals for my personal enjoyment.
3:00 You can always use the add-on EVF for live view and critical focus. And the camera connects to a smartphone too, both for review and live view. So yeah, as minimalist as hiding a regular M10 in a full half-case covering the screen (those actually exist). ;)
Is that Wotancraft store in Hanoi Justin? Trying to find local dealers so I don't have to import stuff.
Me ha ha , the Brompton store sometimes has them or you can see if they will ship to you directly.
nice vid. Is the 24mp generally sufficient for your commercial work?
Whats that strap you have on your SL2S?
How do you insure your equipment? Is every piece of your gear insured...individually?
Hard to ensure in Vietnam at the point so we don't insure.
@@AskMOTT , in late 2022 there were news stories coming out of San Francisco regarding photographers having their gear stolen in broad daylight. Even Leica Stores were being robbed! (Now, the Leica Store SF has a uniformed guard sitting just inside their front door.) You might discuss how YOU deal with the threat of being mugged or robbed in, say, Phnom Penh.
State Farm is where I have my homeowner's policy and I add the expensive bodies and lenses to the Personal Articles section. It's a rider and there is no deductible if stolen, and they have repair/replacement features if you drop and break it. It's about $300-$350 for the year. I could do the $1k deductible but I like the accidental breakage coverage.
What's your Leica kit?
Leica 240. Leica 246 Monochrome, Summicron 35, 50, 75, & 90. Voightlander 21 (my favorite)
M10, Q (type 116), Voigtlander 28/2 & 35/2 Ultron II, 40/2.8 Heliar (my fav.), 50/1.5 Nokton. Wotancraft 3.5 & 7L pilot bags..
M10, M8 skopar 21, voigtlander 28 ultron, voigtlander 35 1.4 classic, zeiss planar 50
Leica M11, Summilux 35mm F1.4 FLE same as yours, voightlander 75mm F1.5 😁
M3 with a Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 and a Canonn 50mm 1.8 LTM.
What would estimate the cost of your kit? When I win the lottery 😂
Are you doing to recon to rob me :)
@@AskMOTT Hahaha. Nice Justin...
@@AskMOTT 🤔. 😂
Honestly, I cannot take seriously anyone who calls his camera a horse.
No worries, I don't like to be taken too seriously.
