I'm an immigrant who assimilated to British life. I taught in British schools where children do not identify as British and are criticising the country they were born in because of its secular culture. In other words they are identifying as Pakistani and are being brought up to think that we should all live under Muslim law, as in Pakistan. Or they are black students who believe they live in a racist country. The fact their parents or grandparents had to leave Pakistan or Nigeria to get a decent life totally escapes them. These are students as young as 11 12 and 13 who are expressing these views. It is totally ignored by the schools, who only talk about racism and prejudice by white people. Very scarey for the future.

What matters is if the groups function as one group or as different groups. For example in Canada, we have founding ethnic French and English populations. Some of my ancestors were from Ireland and were early settlers in Canada, but because they were English-speaking protestants these became apart of the Anglo elite. My father’s family was part English and part French. They were kicked out of Montreal because they were considered English and there was major ethnic conflicts between the groups. I identify as Anglo-Canadian with Irish and French background, although I generally just think of myself as Canadian. Identity is complex. When it comes to migration, it is easier for groups who have more overlap with each other to identify and function as one group because they have more in common. Often when you have groups from different civilizations and different races and religions, it becomes challenging to create a cohesive identity because they don’t have a shared culture, religion, ancestry, etc. You can in some ways think of if from changing professions. For example, if you have a background in law and decide to switch to politics, those are different professions but there’s overlap between the two fields so it would be easier than say, going from dentistry to politics. When you bring in millions of people with totally different identities, it creates social chaos. Imagine you worked in a law firm and your boss hired 20 dentists to work in your office, and they started setting up a dental office in the middle of your law firm. That’s going to cause chaos. It doesn’t mean the dentists are bad people, but it probably wasn’t a smart move for your boss to hire so many people that do something totally different.

Question, both my parents are South African, have Norwegian ancestry & then Scottish ancestry going much further back. I’m white, call myself English, I have only ever known England, I am indistinguishable from a local here up near Liverpool. Am I seriously going to say I’m what, ethnically Norwegian or something? There’s cognitive flexibility in terms of who is in an out of which group, and it often depends on how the groups are managed locally. What matters is if the groups function as one group or as different groups. For example in Canada, we have founding ethnic French and English populations. Some of my ancestors were from Ireland and were early settlers in Canada, but because they were English-speaking protestants these became apart of the Anglo elite.
My father’s family was part English and part French. They were kicked out of Montreal because they were considered English and there was major ethnic conflicts between the groups. I identify as Anglo-Canadian with Irish and French background, although I generally just think of myself as Canadian. Identity is complex.
When it comes to migration, it is easier for groups who have more overlap with each other to identify and function as one group because they have more in common. Often when you have groups from different civilizations and different races and religions, it becomes challenging to create a cohesive identity because they don’t have a shared culture, religion, ancestry, etc.
You can in some ways think of if from changing professions. For example, if you have a background in law and decide to switch to politics, those are different professions but there’s overlap between the two fields so it would be easier than say, going from dentistry to politics. When you bring in millions of people with totally different identities, it creates social chaos. Imagine you worked in a law firm and your boss hired 20 dentists to work in your office, and they started setting up a dental office in the middle of your law firm. That’s going to cause chaos. It doesn’t mean the dentists are bad people, but it probably wasn’t a smart move for your boss to hire so many people that do something totally different.

To say immigration is irrelevant in what happened to those girls is indefensible because even if they say it was a mental health issue that caused this 17 year old to do this - we simply point to the fact that our mental health services simply cannot meet the demands put on it already! So how can we justify unfettered immigration of people who may have poor mental health leading them to harm others - we can’t help them when we can’t help the people already here! Our public services are collapsing under the strain. Thats taking out any race or terrorist intention in these murders.

Matt you are a Legend sir, all i heard then was when your interrogators were saying you were not answering their questions, what they were actually saying is that you were not answering it in the way they wanted you to answer it. When you were allowed to finish you pushed back and closed their rhetoric down as we all know it was about how they feel, how their communities feel but you put forward that the majority of the people of this country have not had a say on the direction of the country and even though your interrogators wanted you to put the blame on the "minority" communities you showed it was the political class from blair all the way through to Sunak and now starmer who chose to ignore what is causing this issue.
