I came here almost 3 years ago. And I will tell anyone who’s trying to learn guitar, this is probably the best start you can get! Good luck! You can all do it!
I'm 70 years old and received a guitar for Christmas. Watching this makes me think I can do this! Thank you! I'm going to subscribe and follow you Andy.
a tip for anyone that struggles with retaining info or muscle memory. when you get the chord right, put down the guitar and close your eyes for a min, when you get the second chord right do the same. when you get a smooth transition, do the same. when you close your eyes after doing a task your brain flashes through the task over and over again, basically doing reps without you having to actually do them and it does it so fast you wont even realise its happening.
I started guitar about a year ago and for anyone trying to learn I’d say this is the best place you can start. Looking back now it’s funny how difficult this was.
Damn I should've been learning this when quarantine started but no, I just had to get the sudden urge to learn this once classes have begun and now I want to do everything EXCEPT study 🤦
Hi Andy, 4 months ago I finally tried this challenge after looking at it for years. It took me about 2 weeks to manage all 10 days and forced myself to try practising each and every day. 4 months later I can't put down my guitar. I just played here comes the sun, Don't look back in anger, Californication and Clocks. I never thought I would be able to do this and enjoy it so much. All thanks to this series. To everybody reading this. Keep pushing! You can do it! The more you try, the more fun it becomes. I believe in you!
@@helenagerstner525 it really hurt for about 2 weeks. After that my fingers were pretty sensitive for about 2 more. After a month I didn't really feel it anymore. It's really funny, I'm 'teaching' my best friend now and he is impressed that my fingers don't get sore. It's so interesting to me that something can become a new standard if you make something a habit
You have no idea what impact and a positive push your comment has given me, I got a guitar a few years ago and every time I think of starting the classes some or the other thing pops up to shift my priority from the guitar. Still, I never stop seeing myself in every person playing it. Of all the comments, this one has given me that feeling to look myself in you with positivity that if I can push myself as you did, I can list a few things that I'll be able to do with a guitar in the next 4 months. Thank you.
@@NagaGuntreddy Thank you so much. Your comment put a smile on my face and is exacly the reason why I posted it. I really look forward to reading a response in the future. You WILL enjoy it as much as I still do. You got this!
There's a book called Guitar Codebreaker Unlocked, and it teaches everything about playing guitar, from essential skills to advanced techniques. It’s perfect for all levels
It's taken me three days to complete day one. But what I was most struggling with was changing between chords. I would have days where I would sit and just practice that. Making sure my fingers were in the correct position, making sure each string was ringing out. In the beginning I was stressing out that I wasn't picking it up as fast as I thought I should. But once I put that thought aside and focused on the reason I wanted to learn, (My love of music and guitar) I found lots of enjoyment and happiness in the process of learning.
There're thousands upon thousands of songs out there. I can play Sultans of Swing now, which is a big deal to me because I adore the song. But I've learned loads of songs on the road towards that goal, and I promise the satisfaction from learning a song never wears off, no matter what song it is. Keep at it, for sure!
Chloe, You have tapped into the very first step every guitarist should take: "What is my purpose for playing?" The next step is visualizing what it will look and sound like in the future when you are playing as you desire. This is the key to persisting. Keep your eyes and ears on your purpose for playing.
I'm at the end of day 15 of practicing every day and I'm reviewing all 10 days to see the progress I've made. I can finally switch between these two cords without hesitation 🎉 slowly but surely! But I'm loving every minute of it
I started playing guitar when I was ten and went to a guitar school for 4 years but felt like I learnt nothing. When I turned 14 I found a different t school that actually started to teach me, but due to circumstances I had to leave after a month. I tried to teach myself and found it extremely difficult and I fell out of touch with my skill. I find that Andy's videos are the easiest to follow and make learning simple and fast. I have loved the guitar my entire life and have dreamed of learning how to play it from a very young age. I just recently picked up my instrument for the first time in 5 years and decided to start from the very beginning. Thank you Andy for helping me start over
I have a similar story. Played guitar till the end of my middle school years. Now I see that I have forgotten everything and this video motivated me to practice starting from 0
This was the same thing for me but with taekwondo. I did taekwondo from 8 to 12yrs. Then i stopped due to circumstances. Now i cant remember anything lol...
Got my guitar in November 2023 and very anxiously only starting today 11 April 2024. I really want and need to play the guitar now, I'm 69, before getting older. My late husband was a lead guitarist in a band. So sorry I never asked him to teach me when he was alive. 😢❤
I'm 26, never played an instrument in my life. Last year, you taught me how to play the ukulele and now you're teaching me how to play the guitar. Great lessons, thanks so much!
Oh snap I'm 26 as well I've always wanted to learn guitar and have never played an instrument in my life. I went down to my parents and there was a manly old gutair bag on the porch with a neglected guitar inside... no idea where it came from but its mine now
When I was 14 I bought my first guitar. I got lazy at learning it because I can't find the right video tutorial to teach me so I hid my guitar and never touched it again. Now I'm 16 and it's our summer vacation so I'm really trying to learn it again. Day 1: Success! I learned my first two chords and did the changing chords.
Starting today y'all👍 On 12th April 23 [Day 1] 12th April 40 minutes and I'm already mastering lesson 1! Now I just need to be able to do it without hesitance. 1 day and I've completed lesson 1, now time for lesson 2. [Day 2] 13th April Everything's going well so far! D chord is a little difficult because of how slippery my fingers get but I'll get it eventually. About 20 minutes in and it's all going quite smoothly. Another 20 minutes and i'm already getting better! D is almost easy for me, but I sometimes have to pause for a bit and adjust. Which I will have to practice to not do that all the time. [Day 3] 14th April I can now move onto lesson 3! Actually wasn't as hard, this lesson actually helped me switch chords faster. I should still keep practicing though. I'm moving quicker than I had expected :) 15 minutes of lesson 3, now I can quickly move to lesson 4. Lesson 4 surprisingly isn't as hard! But it's still a bit difficult. Keep trying :) After a while of practicing, I can already move onto lesson 5. Which is really quick! Lesson 5 is so fun!! I'm getting really good at it, I'm making so much progress!! Lesson 5 done. I might do lesson 6 but I'll try a bit of it and then fully practice back on Monday! [Day 4] 17th April Okayokay, back to it! A little demotivated but I have to keep going :) Lesson 6, it's a little difficult but it's very enjoyable! So many new chords, so I might have to make a list of the chords too. Lesson 6 is starting to get easier! I just need to be more speedy, I'm so happy now. Everything is going so well, but I certainly have a REALLY long way to go! I'm getting really good at it now. Depending on when I master it, I can move onto lesson 7 tomorrow. [Day 5] 18th April Alright, starting lesson 7! Things are well! Pretty fun lesson, but sadly my last one for now. I have a vacation that'll take two weeks, so no updates til then! I'm already getting better :) [Day 6] 2nd May Im back from the trip!! Now its time to continue lesson 8. I unfortunately dont have as much time at the moment, but it was fun! I really loved playing the G scale. Singing while playing the chorus is a bit difficult, but i know that needs practice, so overtime, i can achieve that skill! I'll practice lesson 8 a little more tomorrow and continue onto 9! [Little break on 3rd May] Sorry, I may have to discontinue for a bit, but I'll get back to it once everything is settled! My sister got infected with covid and is now occupying the room where the guitar is. I also prefer playing alone, silently, but now that the room is taken, I have no where private to play the guitar. I unfortunately can't continue for about another week, but I promise, I'll keep up! Keep practicing( ◜‿◝ ) [Day 7] 19th May I sincerely apologize for having no updates in a while, this month has been really cramped! But im back at it. Lesson 9, here we go! Everything is fun, it wasnt as hard as i thought. Though, i need to get used to strumming. Especially because i cant find the guitars pick! This day was really fun and i enjoyed it a lot! The days are almost over, im so happy :) [Day 8] 26th May Lesson 10!!!!! Lets gooo!! It was so fun to learn!! It ends up sounding so good at the end. I realy liked this lesson a lot. It did take a lot of attempts, but i managed. So... That should be the end for my journey! Thank you for reading this comment. Good luck on your journey now, dont give up! I hope you'll be a master in guitar one day. I'll make sure I'll be great in the far future!! 🎉🎉🎉 [Extra: 19th August 2024] Hello! I'm back here to say that my journey has been slowing down. Fear not! I'm not here to say this is hopeless, but I suggest you learn music theory, a way better time than learning these blankly without knowledge behind. If you're looking forward to dedicating yourself to this, of course. You'll be able to understand way more. Guitarists are already notorious for being clueless; not even knowing what a semibreve (or whole note) is. Please take the time, wish you the best! I've stopped for quite some time, but I'll attempt to get back on my feet!! I'll come back to these lessons once I've gotten a good grasp on theory.
@@psmylife6832 Well, they do get sore but the pain isn't the pain that I'd be disturbed by! Wanting to play the guitar is a dream and I know that I won't let sore fingers stop me. It'll take some practice, but surely, you'll get the hang of changing chords. For me, it gets a lot better in a few days, so keep going! The soreness will surely be nothing once we both get the hang of it :)) (Also, I'm not sure if ADHD would affect your learning process but anyone can do it! I'm not too educated on ADHD and such, but you can still achieve the skill overtime)
I just wanted to thank you Andy. I came here about 3 years ago now and you showed me the absolute basics of open chords and this is where my guitar journey started. What a ride it’s been, thank you for inspiring me to improve my life with the awesome instrument that is guitar and if you’re a new player reading this: DONT GIVE UP, Even after a long break. Keep your guitar out in the open the constantly remind yourself of why you started. Have fun and good luck on your own journeys!
Thank you, I am a 68-year-old woman. My son thought, I should learn the guitar, as this was a dream for so many years. I know very funny. This will probably take me a very long time. Such fun
So. I just bought a used guitar and I spent the first 10 minutes wondering why it didn't sound the same even if it was in tune only to realize that my strings are upside down because the owner was left handed
Just ordered my first guitar today. It will come in a few days. I never played any guitar in my life or any other musical instruments. I am 28 years old and will start learning now. Thank you for the free tutulorials.
About two to three years ago i remember starting here😭 I've come a long way and i recommended this course to my friend who just started thinking back i couldn't have gotten here without u andy! Thank u so much!!!
I'm a Brazilian guitar teacher and I'm watching just to learn how to teach guitar in English, hahahha. You slow talk is awesome to my ears. Thank you to be so detailed. I know isn't a english lesson but to me it works.
Oh man. If you think those are hard ...You’ll LOVE add 9 chords 😂 ( for reference, check out the police’s message in a bottle or every breath you take )
First watched this video on April 17th 2023, and have been playing pretty much every day since. Have met some of my closest friends through learning this instrument and playing music and have had my passion for music reignited. Currently preparing for the biggest performance I've taken part in yet! I want to sincerely thank you Andy for creating such an amazing starting point on my and so many other people's journeys and for making each of these lessons so engaging! Cheers man, all the best to you and keep inspiring people to enjoy making music!
@@vidurpanchoo7064 ya that happened to me make sure u cut ur nails and when you put your finger on a string try and put it a little lower than the gap that goes in ur nail and it should sound better that’s what I did and I wouldn’t hit the strings I didn’t need too.
Here's a word of advice. Unless you're gifted this is not a ten day course. It took me over a week to get to Day 3. Just practice each lesson and move on at your own pace.
Totally true and all good! Definitley go at your own pace. But please pick up your guitar for 10 minutes a day to really feel the benefits and progress! All the best guys ✌🎸
The same with me,I've only just started this week, and I can only just play Wild Thing, but I still struggle at looking at what my figures are doing and keeping the beat at the same time.
Thank you man! I only just picked up the guitar after not playing regularly for nearly 20 years. I started in high school, but never got past the beginner phase, only learned a few System of a Down songs by tab, never learned a single chord! I think this series of videos will be a perfect place to start!
Not just me then. One of mine went straight to the door to get out. Bit rude. The other curled up by my side and fell asleep. Depends on the dog I guess!
I accept your challenge. Kind of. I can’t hold a pick so I’ve got to just use my thumb and fingers of my right hand. I’m blind so finding the finger placements is difficult. But, I’m determined to learn something. It might take me a lot longer than 10 days though. But if all of your lessons are a descriptive as this one I have hope. Thank you.
Holy cow, I can't even imagine learning this while being blind. Best of luck to you, I hope that both of us can learn this beautiful instrument and master it! :)

Anybody else trying to learn guitar because they bought one at the beginning of lockdown but haven't picked it up since and feel guilty of not doing anything for an entire year? No? Just me? Great...
I bought a Walmart version guitar toy as a 7 year old thinking it was a real guitar but I found out later that it was not so I did not use it for years but now I am using it to practice just to see if it was really worth it to buy a real guitar.
I am going to put this comment here as a log. Hope this journey will be helpful to others. 😊 Lesson 1 [Feb 28]: I started learning guitar yesterday.... What I find most difficult is to switch between chords. Fingers are giving me a very hard time. I want to get the switching between chords comfortable before I move on to the next lesson. [March 2]: I have been practicing for around 10mins stretches for around a total of 1 Hour daily. I can say my hands are a little better. Today I was able to continuously switch between the E chord and the A chord according to the rhythm. I was really happy for myself once I could to it😍 even though it's not perfect.
It's so great you're starting this journey ! I've been playing guitar for a few years and all I can say is even though it can be really hard at the beginning, you should never give up ! Wish you the best :)

@@asmaaet-taoudi5221 You've been in lesson one of the ten day course for over a year?! I thought my week dedicated to stopping the strings from buzzing was bad...
At 82 I have just ordered my first guitar. It's something I always wanted to do and I have reached the stage where I had to get into it before I fall off my twig. I now have your lessons stored away and will hit lesson one as soon as my guitar (Yamaha F310P) arrives in a day or two, Thank you so much for this resource. I live a fair way from any main centre so face to face lessons are difficult and, given my rather small pension here in NZ, expensive. Hope it goes well...this is quite exciting... 🙂
I love this!! I'm in NZ too, down in Nelson and have always started lessons, then moved away and given up. So here we go again. I've reported the negative old white guy below because his comment is bullshit - you can totally still learn to play guitar and enjoy it, it's not rocket science. Good luck!
@@waynepayne9875 Well I have learned quite a few new things in my life, some of them quite recently. I don't expect to be another Andres Segovia, but the basics are well within reach I think. Time will tell.
If you are having problems playing the 3rd string on A chord, just put your finger more in the middle of the fret. Much easier to get a sound out of the string, especially when your fingers aren't that strong. Helped me and saved a lot of frustration from not getting any clear sound.

All my life, I've been wanting to learn guitar. I finally bought my first guitar in 2022 and started watching guitar tutorials, but I stopped and headed directly to learning songs, which I probably sucked and stopped completely in 2023 due to work, but this year, 2024, will be the year I learn guitar. This is my first day here, and I will update my journey in every 10 videos, even if it takes days or months. Wish me luck, guys! 🤞

Coming across your videos has inspired me to pick up the guitar again. Just watching how you break down each element makes me feel like I will be able to learn over time.
I played my guitar so much as a kid, I would practice for hours every day. It brought me so much happiness and creativity but life sort of got in the way and one day I put it down and never picked it up. Now almost twelve years later I'm picking it up again and I'm so happy I found this place to start. Andy is a great teacher and I'm feeling more encouraged than ever! I have an electric guitar (Febder Stratocaster Red) and have been rocking for the past few months now. Because of you, I learned guitar. I started on an acoustic, now to an electric. I was about to give up, but you were encouraging us all throughout. Thank you man. Happy new year.
Yo, update on the progress if anyone was ever wondering. I can do fast alternate picking, tremolo picking, harmonics (including pinch harmonics), tapping, and other guitar techniques. The hardest songs I can play including the solo are as follows: 1. Master of Puppets 2. Psychosocial 3. Enter Sandman 4. Eruption 5. Sweet Child o Mine.
Played on a brand new Ibanez for Christmas roughly two decades ago. Got lessons, did alright, expanded my skills and bought new guitars. Haven't played consistently in the last 15 years and now feel like a total beginner all over again. Only guitar I have left is that Ibanez, now older and beat-up from years of lack of care. Thank you to my wonderful wife for keeping my Ibanez in decent enough condition through the years I was struggling. I am finally in a place to start all over again and this seems like the perfect place.
Don't even have a guitar right now but seeing this is just so amazing. I am very excited to practise all these chords on a real guitar some day(currently practising with my stationary box 😂)

a tip for anyone that struggles with retaining info or muscle memory. when you get the chord right, put down the guitar and close your eyes for a min, when you get the second chord right do the same. when you get a smooth transition, do the same. when you close your eyes after doing a task your brain flashes through the task over and over again, basically doing reps without you having to actually do them and it does it so fast you wont even realise its happening.
Thank you for this tip I'm going to try it now ❤️

@@helenagerstner525 it really hurt for about 2 weeks. After that my fingers were pretty sensitive for about 2 more. After a month I didn't really feel it anymore.
Thank you.

I'm curious... Watching his videos, has it helped in the 2 months since your comment?

I started playing guitar when I was ten and went to a guitar school for 4 years but felt like I learnt nothing. When I turned 14 I found a different t school that actually started to teach me, but due to circumstances I had to leave after a month. I tried to teach myself and found it extremely difficult and I fell out of touch with my skill. I find that Andy's videos are the easiest to follow and make learning simple and fast. I have loved the guitar my entire life and have dreamed of learning how to play it from a very young age. I just recently picked up my instrument for the first time in 5 years and decided to start from the very beginning. Thank you Andy for helping me start over
Aw you have been going through a guitar life timeline. I am glad that you kept going no matter the circumstances
I have a similar story. Played guitar till the end of my middle school years. Now I see that I have forgotten everything and this video motivated me to practice starting from 0

This is very depressing and inspiring at the same time. Good luck friend, and thank you.
This was the same thing for me but with taekwondo. I did taekwondo from 8 to 12yrs. Then i stopped due to circumstances. Now i cant remember anything lol...

Good girl 🤏🦋
Starting today y'all👍
On 12th April 23
[Day 1] 12th April
40 minutes and I'm already mastering lesson 1! Now I just need to be able to do it without hesitance.
1 day and I've completed lesson 1, now time for lesson 2.
[Day 2] 13th April
Everything's going well so far!
[Day 3] 14th April
I can now move onto lesson 3!
Actually wasn't as hard, this lesson actually helped me switch chords faster. I should still keep practicing though. I'm moving quicker than I had expected :)
15 minutes of lesson 3, now I can quickly move to lesson 4.
Lesson 4 surprisingly isn't as hard! But it's still a bit difficult. Keep trying :)
After a while of practicing, I can already move onto lesson 5. Which is really quick!
Lesson 5 is so fun!! I'm getting really good at it, I'm making so much progress!!
Lesson 5 done. I might do lesson 6 but I'll try a bit of it and then fully practice back on Monday!
[Day 4] 17th April
Okayokay, back to it! A little demotivated but I have to keep going :)
Lesson 6, it's a little difficult but it's very enjoyable!
[Day 5] 18th April
Alright, starting lesson 7!
Things are well! Pretty fun lesson, but sadly my last one for now. I have a vacation that'll take two weeks, so no updates til then! I'm already getting better :)
[Day 6] 2nd May
Im back from the trip!!
Keep practicing( ◜‿◝ )
[Day 7] 19th May
I sincerely apologize for having no updates in a while, this month has been really cramped! But im back at it.
Lesson 9, here we go!
Everything is fun, it wasnt as hard as i thought. Though, i need to get used to strumming. Especially because i cant find the guitars pick! This day was really fun and i enjoyed it a lot! The days are almost over, im so happy :)
[Day 8] 26th May
Lesson 10!!!!!
[Extra: 19th August 2024]
Hello! I'll come back to these lessons once I've gotten a good grasp on theory.
keep it up
@@jjohnson8353 Thank you! Hope I'll get better with it :)
How do you cope with sore fingers and touching another string close by?
Day 1 8.30pm, Sun., 16th April, 2023, and I have ADHD!!
The soreness will surely be nothing once we both get the hang of it :))
(Also, I'm not sure if ADHD would affect your learning process but anyone can do it! I'm not too educated on ADHD and such, but you can still achieve the skill overtime)

Thanks mate! LF for day 2 tomorrow =)
Mister, I feel like such a genius because I was able to keep up pretty good compared to other people in the comments lol
This was extremely helpful and despite the "TH-cam doesn't work" ad, I believe that this is actually very good in teaching
I think you did a great job teaching here and I feel confident that I can do well soon, so thank you
lol, yeah this ad is driving me crazy
yeah I got the ad too
IKR, this ad is so annoying
No cap i thought this was super helpful and that add was mad annoyin
Oh so I’m not the only one that got that? Annoying ad lol
I'm on day 5 of these videos now but wanted to come back and thank you for these videos and encourage anyone just checking them out to give them a go! I'm glad Andy came up first when I TH-camd 'beginner guitar lessons' and have made quite a bit of progress in only a week and a half thanks to his detailed tutorials. Love the encouragement and hear myself saying "that's totally fine" when I can't get it right away. Thanks! 😁
Hows your learning going on
My brother have a guitar and I have a goal and that is to play for my father who love playing guitar but can't anymore because his hand is paralysed.
Thanks for this,I'm an absolute beginner I can't even switch between cords yet but hey I got a whole 2022 to learn it
Best of luck! Youll make your father proud
best of luck!!

hello mate iv played the drums for 30 years , then I had a stroke 2 years ago , and have to say good by to them 2 months ago I picked a guitar up and found you on here, I would like to say thankyou with your help I have found I can do this all is not lost thanks john

Keep practicing everyone, that's the only way to get better (and for your fingers to stop hurting :) )!
I was looking for this comment, thank you
The best feeling ever is finally being able to switch between the chords smoothly!!!

It took 6 days, but I can now play the e major -> a major chord progression consistently with no string buzz or muting. My fingers also feel like they have toughened up a little bit and I'm able to press down much further than I was the first day. Thanks you so much for these lessons, I'll be moving onto lesson 2 and onwards.
Finally starting to get the A chord...wow, what a struggle! I believe in you, reader
It’s been a month, may I get a update?

Fingers can move a little faster now, non-barre chords have been fine for months, and now I got the hang of F, my first barre chord. Need to learn to slide those up and down the neck a bit better and I'll be solid.
I really should commit some easy songs to muscle memory, but I'm proud to say I got into Barre chords, my biggest struggle

It's been a year now. (December 10, 2018). That's when I first watched your videos. Thank you man. I have an electric guitar (Febder Stratocaster Red) and have been rocking for the past few months now. Because of you, I learned guitar. I started on an acoustic, now to an electric. I was about to give up, but you were encouraging us all throughout. Thank you man. Happy new year.
It's not new year
This has encouraged me. I wanna get a guitar and start. Thanks!
@@colepypernova it was when he posted the comment
Yo, update on the progress if anyone was ever wondering. I can do fast alternate picking, tremolo picking, harmonics (including pinch harmonics), tapping, and other guitar techniques. The hardest songs I can play including the solo are as follows:
1. Master of Puppets
2. Psychosocial
3. Enter Sandman
4. Eruption
5. Sweet Child o Mine.
Kek, I can do the solo in Aviator now.
Practicing about 10 minutes a day right now. The A major chord is still killing me but it's definitely getting easier.
I’ve been on Day 1 for 4 days and I’m really happy to say that now I can finally switch chords smoothly.
Thank you so much for these lessons, Andy.
Are you still playing???
how's it going so far?
I've learnt more in 10 minutes than in 5 hours in a group guitar class! Thanks.
Don't even have a guitar right now but seeing this is just so amazing. I am very excited to practise all these chords on a real guitar some day(currently practising with my stationary box 😂)
Me playing the E major chord: _That went pretty well._
Me taking 3 seconds to switch between the E and A chord: _I've humiliated myself and will now commit suicide._
Update: It's been 6 weeks and I'm still stuck. ;-;

This is glorious, I've been looking for "easy guitar chord" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Fanwen Ziyaria System - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my brother in law got excellent success with it.

Changing chords can be frustrating at first. Practice it slowly and practice a little each day. I started out real slow, but am up to where I can change back and forth in about a second
