It covers hammer terminology, hammer types, and some basic hammer blows.

I stand back and lean over when an anvil is too low. It is hard on the back.

Proper height anvil makes a big difference if you're going to be hammering all day.

What is it used for? A friend of mine bought me one he found while antique shopping. I had to have it cause I’ve never seen one until now.

@@MWilliams-tj1mw the hammer is made by The old phone company called Bell systems. Also called maw bell. The hole is for turning spikes into telephone poles

I am glad you mentioned using a full swing. It drives me nuts when I see a ‘smith do the pitter patter strokes. I wanna say HIT IT ALREADY!

That's one of the biggest things I notice with new smiths, especially. Little tiny taps that don't do much. We're moving metal you need to mean it when you hit it.

I cant get over the fact that the people working in this shop are not protected from the coal smoke. ... Thats really unhealthy.great video though.

Ventilation is high on my list of things to fix with our shop. One of the downsides of an all volunteer blacksmithing group at a non-profit is how long it takes to get things done.
We encourage masks but don't mandate them.
