  • Unkillable D&D 5e Character Builds
    Nerdarchy sets out to do a 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons character build that is super hard to kill by reducing their hit points down to zero. We look at all the different 5e D&D character races as well as the 5th edition D&D character classes to create an unkillable character build.

      There's also "The Undying" patron of the Warlock; both Celestial & Undying + Pact of the Chain with the "Gift of the Ever-Living Ones" Invocation is excellent.
      PotC/GotE-LO + Celestial's "Healing Light" with at least an 18 Charisma, you'll automatically heal yourself for 24 HP per Bonus Action, with a 20 Charisma you'll be healing yourself for 30 HP per Bonus Action.
      PotC/GotE-LO + Undying's "Defy Death" (Level 6) - Whenever you stabilize a creature with "Spare the Dying" or pass on a Death ST, 1/Long Rest you'll be able to regain 8 + Con [normally it's 1d8 + Con].
      PotC/GotE-LO + Undying's "Indestructible Life" (Level 14) - 1/Rest, on your turn you can use a Bonus Action to regain 22+ HP [normally it's 1d8 + Warlock Level (14+)]
      Then again, 3 Levels Warlock [to get PotC & GotE-LO] + Any Class that can heal themselves using Dice Rolls can become Self-Healing "Gods". Plus if the Warlock "summons" a Familiar that can fly, they can have it use the Help Action within 5' of a target allow any Rogues in the Group to get good opportunities to pull off Sneak Attacks.

    I still like the zealot barbarian/celestial warlock combination, specifically because zealot just won't die until his rage ends and celestial warlock at first level has a healing ability that is not a spell so you can still technically use it. Paladin's lay on hands would also work.

    • @Nurk0m0rath
      @Nurk0m0rath 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh and also pact of the chain for the Gift of the Ever-Living Ones, maximizing the healing you receive from any source. That's the primary reason I prefer warlock over paladin, druid, or any other class with a non-spell healing subclass feature. It's just too bad there isn't a special familiar that seems fitting to the celestial patron, though I suppose you could always use the imp stats and reflavor it as your "shoulder angel." But even a celestial cat or fox would work for the build.

    • @exqueue3813
      @exqueue3813 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, Warlock, Paladin, etc. require you to build sub-optimally for a high level barbarian in order to multiclass. Fighter 1 gets you second wind which accomplishes the same thing, and fighter uses the same stats as barbarian.

  • @Renvil_

    My favorite combination for an "unkillable character" must be the (thematic compatible) combination of an Aasimar (Protector) with ( 15th level Barbarian - Way of the Zealot + 4th level Paladin - Oath of Devotion + 1st level Sorcerer - Divine Soul.
    Key factors:
    - Relentless Rage (lvl 11 Barbarian): *Every time you hit 0 you make DC10 (+5 per times used per short or long rest) to go to 1 instead.*
    - Rage Beyond Death (lvl 14 Zealot Barbarian): *Not dying as long as you rage.*
    - Presistant Rage (lvl 15 Barbarian): *Your rage doesn't end early.*
    - Lay on Hands (lvl 1 Paladin): *You can as an action heal (touch) based on your LoH point pool (5x paladin level).*
    - Favored by the Gods (1st lvl Divine Soul Sorcerer): *You can add 2d4 to any missed attack or failed saving throw once per short or long rest).*
    - Healing Hands (Aasimar): *Healing (touch) equal to your level once per long rest.*
    Note:
    This build is made to be flavourable and fun, thematic and balanced between living and dealing damage. In this comment I focused just on the "longjevity aspects" of it, but I think it's way solid enough to be able to *live whatever for 9 turns, spend an action to stabilize with LoH or HH (as you can do that while raging) on the 10th turn, to then start all over again.*
    This can be done for a total of 21 minutes of fighting after initially DYING!
    And to then being able to combine Smites while Raging with a Sacted Weapon (Channel Divinity), and Flying with wings at a speed of 30f with big bonus damage, attacking Recklessly for advantage, with extra attack. On top of that taking the Feats: Great Weapon Master + Sentinel...
    At 20th level, with 20 atk, 14 Cha, wielding a +3 Greataxe, Sacred Weapon, Radiant Soul (wings etc.):
    1 Weapon Attack
    (to hit: +11 with GWM and SW during Rage)
    1d12 + 8 slashing + 3 slashing (rage bonus at 15th level Barbarian) + 10 slashing (GWM) + 20 radiant (level 20 RS)
    = *1d12 + 41* (at advantage if recklessly attacking, EVERY HIT)
    Max damage: *53*
    Average damage: *48*
    And then on a Critical Hit, pumping in Divine Smite + Brutal Critical:
    2x(1d12 + 3d8) + 41 + 2d12
    Max possible Crit damage: *137*
    Average Crit damage: *99*
    tl;dr
    You will LIVE, and stuff will DIE (in the name of the Gods)
    ~You're wellcome

    • @MrBlazedice
      @MrBlazedice 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am forced to make sure you realize once your character is dead, there is no stabilization that can happen. You are dead, healing yourself fails. So once path of the zealot is dead, it is dead once the rage ends. That being said, there still shouldn't be a party that dies when their barbarian takes enough damage away from the party in order to actually die, which means your barbarian should easily be revivable.

      Not only do you have a longer lifespan, you basically have infinite temporary hitpoints. Unless something one taps you, you can just keep coming back. I think you get more HP from spore druid though because you get 5 temp hp per druid level IIRC. Unless there's some high CR beast who has more.

    • @Hero99100
      @Hero99100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justas423 technically there are a few high CR beasties that beat out the maximum temp HP from spore druid, chiefly the Mammoth. However, spore druid symbiotic form does have a notable advantage over the moon druid form. Since it's temporary HP and not a new pool, like the usual wild shape is....that means that you are not affected by high level death spells in the same way as you would in a normal wild shape. Since spore druid uses stacked temp HP rather than a new form, a death spell like Power Word Kill would not kill you in spore form, like it would kill a mammoth in wild shape form after a few hits.

    Following your recommendations, I have put together a half orc Shadow sorc 1/Nature domain 7/long death 12 in DDB.
    I chose nature domain in order to nab shillelagh, allowing for a more wisdom focused build, assuming that the Long Death monk would use flurry of blows less often than other monks in a dangerous combat.
    I think however, that this is not the best way to do this.
    The long death ability requires no save and preparation, making it highly superior to the sorcerer ability which requires a save.
    Additionally, getting to level 14 gets you diamond soul - proficiency in all saves (including Death Saves), and 1 ki to reroll.
    THAT plus the extra ki points make this a much better way to save your skin and stave off death.
    In terms of Resource cost and effectiveness, ultimately I think that Half Orc Long Death, possibly taking magic initiate, is the best way to build it.
    However: Death ward can negate other instant death effects, which long death does not. That is a pretty huge investment for death ward though, when your party SHOULD have a cleric, and it keeps you from getting Diamond Soul. The options are: 7/13 or x/14

      I usually say make a con check against the casters DC to see if your body isn't completely disintegrated. The only exception to this is a critical hit which is basically death with a min damage of 60+40×2 which is 100 damage (if you roll all 1s for damage) I do it this way because disintegrate is quite a harsh spell for my group as a slain creature can only be restored to life through the Wish or True Resurrection spells which are both late game spells while disintegrate can be encoutered as early as level 14.

    • @mclark347
      @mclark347 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In a similar vein to this thread. I've been using a character who keeps party members alive...
    Wizard>Abjuration>Magic initiate (into cleric)> Healing word & spare the dying> False life> (lvl 7) polymorph
    The point of the character isn't to act like the party's healer or tank. At least that's not how I play it. The point is, Oh a teammate is going to take enough damage to drop? I absorb just enough of that to prevent them from going down. If someone does go down, healing word and false life can both be used in the same turn to bring 2 teammates back up. And as a last resort, a teammate at 0 hp makes a really nice TREX with polymorph.
    Now I know if I go half orc I can save myself the same as a teammate. Though it's rare I need to, between the abjuration free hp and false life and self heals my character has sometimes hundreds of hp in any given combat.
    Some other things I've been wanting to try for the "savior" is Going druid for more low level healing spells, and healing spirit at second level.
    Now thanks to this video I know to go half orc and take 1 level of barbarian. So I can use ALL of my shield stuff on low health party members.
    See hp doesn't matter except the last one, so long as I keep party members above 0 they can keep fighting until we win. And this character does that really well. Even more now.

    Level 20 druid. According to RAW, a moon druid can use their wildshape as a bonus action and being level 20 gives them unlimited wildshapes. This means the druid could turn into, say, an earth elemental and just make sure he stays above 100 hitpoints so that some lich can't PWK him. It's gonna take something BIG to drop that druid out of wildshape and drop his HP to 0. Even a tarrasque's swallow ability wouldn't work, because they can just shift back and forth inside the tarrasque's belly, keeping them alive and negating the acid damage.

With that said, do you think you will get around to doing a show/character breakdown for Dave the Barbarian like what you're doing for the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. Dave the Barbarian is a comedic, sometimes absurdist, take on the High Fantasy genre. Looking back on things, I can honestly say that it seems like each of the characters in the show can seem like they are jabs at characters you hear about from other players or just amusing takes on stories about things that happened at someone's game table.
