Oh my God, I am thrilled. You found one of today’s best singers in the world! Every performance you will watch is better than the last. I promise you. I want you to watch her version of “it’s a man’s world“.
RAYE just simply has IT. She’s so authentic, humble and of course her voice is insane. I get goosebumps every time I hear this live version of Oscar Winning Tears. Thanks for reacting!
She's not just British, but south London - tends to lead to that slightly more urban husk you sometimes get with some British singers. She's a hell of an artist and I was lucky enough to be on cameras for her live symphonic shows - only very briefly got to meet and speak to her but being part of these productions in London was reward enough, a career highlight so far! And I hope she goes very far in hers 😇
You catch up on the emotional factors of what this performance truly meant to Raye. 10 years of working hard in the industry and 7 of those years in shackles to a company who refused all of her personal individual artistry.
Ken, Glad youve happened upon the genius and incredibly talented Raye. It is ALL her arrangements throughout her full 21st Century Blues Symphony concert and full album release. It is stunning delivery coupled with craftsmanship that is unparalleled in my 62 years of life. She incorporates such a wide range of stylistic nods from the jazz-blues greats of the 30s through 60s, on through the pop-r&b dynamos of the past 30 years. Then she throughs incredible swooning epic bird-of-heaven sounds. Yes she's our worlds new Goddess of Song! This from a 4year Angel and mega -believer in the truth that is also Angelina Jordan. What a couple of NEW powerhouses to fill the Adele-less void of the upcoming years. Cheers 🥂
Same here, even also 4 years of AJ, discovered RAYE 4 months ago and am insanely addicted... Which one should we suggest next? Brit Awards Medley? Man's World at Montreux? London Hilton Worth It? Please Don't Touch Hunger Session? Genesis MV? Could you name a favorite one? I really can't, love everything she does... Peace and love from BavaRAYEa!
At the 2024 BRIT Awards Raye broke the record for most wins and nominations for an artist at the ceremony in a single year. She won in the categories Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. Her "Escapism" was named song of the year and "My 21st Century Blues" was named album of the year. She also wins the R&B Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year categories. She's great! 🤓🇸🇪
Raye is British and The fact that she's only 26 years old is crazy check out her album 21st century blue's and she's been in the industry since she's was 14 years old and wasn't allowed to release any music she was only allowed to write for other artists until she left her label back in 2021 Raye said she's waited 7 years for this and she said shes so happy that she can finally share her voice with the world and she was 25 when left her label please check out more of her live performances definitely check out Raye's mary jane live performance at 2024 montreux festival
Very interested in the American accent comment. As an English person, I hear Raye being fully seated in her English accent, more specifically a south London accent. I don't hear the American sound referenced at all.
You need to check out Raye Tiny Desk NPR performance, one of the greatest live performances. Also definetly check out this canadian moroccan artist FAOUZIA, her voice is so unique and the notes and melodies she picks are so specific to her and play on different scales
Check out her latest single Genesis, live Radio 1 Weekend Dance Mashup, Brit Award Medley, cover of Nina Simone Feeling Good, videos Hard Out Here, Flip a Switch and so much more
I've watched a few reactions to this song, because it is just such a stunner...and I think I might like yours the best! Thank you for that - really enjoyed the little things you picked up on.
This performance absolutely gives me goosebumps! This is one of those songs which gains so much when performed live. I can agree with your mention of it feeling like a Bond theme, and I would also dare say that given the appreciable theatricality it gains live the song also sounds like a spectacular opening number for a musical.
She is proper south London mate !! Born and bred - She went to the famous Brit School just like Adele, and Amy Winehouse, FKA twigs, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, LOYLE carner - A school that produces stars!!
Sadly, the high went to Dua Lipa ( love her) but, vocally, Raye is on another level. The, first time I heard her, I thought, yes, she should be the next James Bond vocalist. She, writes what she knows. Her, life. That’s why she’s such an emotional singer.
Very, very good reaction, Ken! Raye is the real deal. And just like @terryellsworth5848 in the comments here, I, too, am a VERY big fan of Angelina Jordan (I miss your reactions to her btw). Raye is undeniable. Authentic. Unaplogetic, yet humble. Extremely charismatic and feminine. Delivering powerful music and lyrics, most of it from her own experiences through her first decade or so in the music industry. A musical gem of the highest valor for sure. Please react more to her, she will blow your socks off. Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
She is not American in the slightest, she has the authentic British, south London accent even when singing, which adds to her jazz style. Not everyone successful comes from America, we have produced some of the best vocal talent in the world. Amy winehouse, Adele, The Beatles all have their British accents when they sing. That last chorus, climbing vocal octaves three times in one breath is nearly vocally impossible. She is incredible. I would go as to say she is more technical vocally than Amy Winehouse, although Amy had more soul and a more distinctive sound. She is a superb example of pure British talent.
Brit Awards at Albert Hall. She is british. She sounds a bit like Amy Winehouse in places to me. She’s touring the US with a big band. Kind of “leaning” in to jazz is one thing I read. She’s a songwriter for lots of big names. Had some hits. Now is on her own independent label.
No, she purposely tries to keep her British accent while singing, and makes an effort to NOT sound American. She’s spoken about it multiple times over various interviews.
Raye is classic but also a little bit gangster. How often do you get a rap scored for full orchestra, only for Etta James to show up taking no prisoners? Hope you'll do more - my personal recommendation is Worth It, from the Dorchester on Park Lane (I think). Its got swing, a great big-band sound and Raye shows off her jazz chops with great style. I think you'll like it a lot. Cheers! 🇬🇧
Brilliant recation! Subscribed! I’ll be learning lot about singers vocal choices watching these. Please react to Chloe x Halle NPR desk performance, the first song. They’re a Grammy nominated sister duo with brilliant harmonies.
Hi, I’m a new sub, love your reaction videos. I know you usually react to vocals but I watched you react to one of my favorite drummers, Danny Carey, doing Pneuma and I loved it! The video was from 4 years ago so I’m a little late to the party 😅, but I’d love if you could watch (and maybe even react to?) two videos from the Drumeo channel. One is drummer Mike Portnoy learning the drums for Pneuma (insane!) and the other is drummer Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers drumming to a song by 30 Seconds to Mars (trust me, it’s mind blowing 🤯 ) that he has never heard before. Thanks for your videos! 🤘🏻
There is no such thing as a British GRAMMY, whoever recommended this (probably US-American) got it messed up, he refers to her Brit Awards, and those were 6, not 8 - still more than anyone else, even Adele achieved in one year... - One might say that the Brit Awards are something similar to the GRAMMYs in the US, awards rewarded by the British music business...
@@Hundhammer not sure the accuracy but if you search, it says Brit awards are the British equivalent to a Grammy but yes definitely not a British Grammy, a Brit award is a Brit award lol

Yes she wrote it too, same with all her songs. She's a genius songwriter
In a sentence, she walked on that stage a rising star and finished the song a legend.
Pure London mate! no American there...lol This is the London Philharmonic Orchestra and she wrote the score for them. A true artist.
Great reaction, Watch her medley performance at the Brits next.

Yes yes yes you have seen it to ........the fuck at the end !!! hahahahaha
Listen to Air with Peter Johansson, a swedish singer with success in musicals like Queen the musical in London. He's great!
The documentary Louis THeroux did with her about her career is amazing, the sexual attacks by "record producers" the threats and bribery is so moving
British Grammy’s 🤣🤣🤣

5 monitor adjustments in the video. The first being double ear.
How have you not reviewed Chris Stapleton on this channel? Please watch his cover of “Nothing compares to you” or “White Horse” please please please!!
She's from south london.
South London, very much South of England. She reminds me of a mix of Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith with a dash of Lily Allen.

Of course she's london British - same lilt as amy winehouse, adele, lily allen... etc. I wasn't a fan of the extra long note though 😬
She doesn’t sound American at all. As someone from east London who hears her accent all the time it’s indistinguishable for me.
Raye is playing with an orchestra - not a band 🤦
