    My name is Kru Phil Nurse. I run a Muay Thai-style fighting gym in New York City called The Wat. We have some of the world champion fighters that trained at The Wat. If you want to find out more about The Wat, you can contact us at thewat.com. Today we're gonna be talking about the UFC. Elbow techniques. Elbow techniques, there are a couple of ways of explaining elbow techniques. There is the close quarters technique. In tai boxing I try to define the word of elbow more as the very very tip of the elbow. This is the forearm, this is the elbow. This is the striking point you want to use in tai boxing. A lot of times you'll see in a tai boxing fight you'll see two guys moving, you'll see his arm do this, then you'll see the other guy is bleeding. What happened? It's not so much of a big forearm smash, it's more of the boom right at the edge. That's the technique you want to work on doing with an elbow strike. You want to really connect with the tip of the elbow. It may not feel very hard it may not have a really big impact but it has a lot of qualities to finish the fight. As I was saying if I want to hit an elbow from here which is a close in technique, you can go to far into it and you're hitting him with your forearm which is still a decent technique. But maybe I want to cut him up. I want to close his eyes for whatever reason. I'm trying to win a fight, trying to break his nose even. I'll throw the elbow and I want to hit him right with the tip. That tip if it hits the side of his eye there, it's going to cut it. Same thing if I hit it this time going for his nose. If it hits the bridge of his nose, it's going to break. If I'm going for his chin, same thing. Hit with the tip, going for the tip of the chin. Every time you hit with this elbow, you want to just catch with this tip there. If that hit on my eyebrow, it would just slice through it. The bridge of my nose, like I explained, looking for a break. Side of the cheek, chin: looking for a knockout. This? I can take that. Yes a forearm hit can knock the person out. This kind of an elbow with a tip, you're looking for a cut. If you do catch the chin, clean, you'll get the knock out as well with that.

    Nicely done video, very informative, and you covered all the key points of elbow strikes, including the fact that an elbow to the upper area of the skull isn't very good. Thumbs up.

    HA! Funny you mention the bleeding from landing an elbow, Just this weekend was my first sparring experience (it wasn't top speed, but hey). i was evading a submission and threw a blind elbow from my weaker side. next thing you know his, brow was bleeding! talk about a simple and effective means of distraction!

    relaxed is better but in a fight with your adrenaline pumping your probably gonna clinch your fist and it doesnt matter to much

    I would recommend before fighting take those earrings out coz the first thing I would do in a fight is rip them off.

      ***** it's street fighting you do what you gotta do nothing gay about ripping someones earrings out for self defence

    • @1DAZEDxANDxCONFUSED1
      @1DAZEDxANDxCONFUSED1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's how you would like it to go but you never know how much another guy knows you can never get cocky when it comes to fighting that's just gonna end up hurting you in a street fight anything can happen and usually things don't always go as they would in theory fighting dirty along with your training in martial arts is a great idea rip their eyes out give them a nut shot pull their ears bite when it's necessary when you need to protect yourself use all you can using more tools then the other guy would will always enhance whatever edge you already have

    • @TheApexPlayer
      @TheApexPlayer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      its not gay its called being smart
      if in a fight all you worry about is whether or not you look gay them i sorry but i hope you get the beat the crap out of
      In a fight you have to be willing to do whatever to win

    • @AlexZeBeast
      @AlexZeBeast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, sure. But ripping out an earring is not going to win you a fight, haha. You'll still get fucked up.
