  • Robotic Surgery Explained | How Does Robotic Surgery|
Robotic surgery, also known as robot-assisted surgery, is a surgical technique that uses robotic systems to assist surgeons in performing complex and minimally invasive procedures with enhanced precision and control. While it's often referred to as "robotic," it's important to note that the system is operated entirely by a trained surgeon. Here's how robotic surgery works:
    1. Robotic System Setup:
The surgical team prepares the operating room and sets up the robotic surgical system, which typically consists of a surgical console, robotic arms, and specialized instruments.
    2. Surgeon Console:
The surgeon sits at a console located in the operating room, away from the patient.
The surgeon wears special gloves and uses foot pedals to control the robotic arms and instruments.
    3. Patient-side Setup:
Before surgery, the patient is prepared, and small incisions (ports) are made in the surgical area. These ports are where the robotic arms and instruments will be inserted.
    4. Robotic Arms and Instruments:
The robotic system includes several robotic arms, each holding a surgical instrument or camera.
The surgical instruments attached to the robotic arms can mimic the movements of the surgeon's hand but with greater precision and stability.
One of the robotic arms typically holds a high-definition camera, providing the surgeon with a 3D, magnified view of the surgical site.
    5. Teleoperation:
The surgeon, seated at the console, looks into a viewer that provides a 3D view of the patient's body.
As the surgeon moves their hands and fingers within the console's controls, the robotic system replicates these movements in real-time with the surgical instruments inside the patient's body.
The system filters out hand tremors and enhances the surgeon's movements, allowing for extremely precise control.
    6. Real-time Feedback:
The robotic system provides the surgeon with real-time feedback on the surgical site, such as the scale of movements and the amount of force applied.
Advanced robotic systems may also offer haptic feedback, allowing the surgeon to feel the tissue resistance.
    7. Procedure Execution:
With the robotic system's assistance, the surgeon performs the surgical procedure. The robot's precision and dexterity are particularly beneficial in delicate and complex surgeries.
    8. Continuous Monitoring:
Throughout the procedure, the surgical team monitors the patient's vital signs and the robotic system's performance to ensure a safe and successful surgery.
    9. Completion and Closure:
Once the surgery is complete, the robotic arms and instruments are withdrawn from the patient, and the incisions are closed.
    10. Recovery:
    - Patients often experience less pain, reduced scarring, and shorter recovery times compared to traditional open surgery due to the minimally invasive nature of robotic surgery.
Robotic surgery is commonly used in various medical specialties, including urology, gynecology, general surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery. It allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater precision and minimal trauma to the patient, ultimately improving surgical outcomes and reducing recovery times.

The surgeon is like playing a video game; and they told us we were wasting our time playing video games.
