I just was looking at my old ticket stub from the Judas Priest/megadeth/testament concert at the Nassau coliseum in 1990 and it was only $20 for good seats and my Judas Priest/ Cinderella show in 1988 for only $20. I remember having to stand in line at a Ticketron at the back of some video store just hoping to get any decent seat before the scalpers bought all the good tickets up. You worked hard at just buying the ticket as it wasn’t like today where you just buy from an app in the comfort of your own home. The big difference today is it’s a monopoly with Ticketmaster promoting, owning a lot of the venues and only place to purchase the ticket. There were no ridiculous ticket fees. I used to see acts like badlands, skid row, twisted sister, maiden, overkill, anthrax, megadeth along other bands at lamours in Brooklyn for only $10 in the 80’s. There was definitely the feeling back then like anything could happen at a show. You didn’t have the ridiculous security at these shows like today. I remember people lighting fireworks inside the coliseum. Lamours you were right up at the stage. I was able to shake Jake e Lee hand. Btw. That badlands concert was one of the best performances I ever saw. I believe it was the first album tour. There are no spontaneous performances anymore. Everything is so planned out and you have no idea if people are even playing instruments or it’s a recording. wtf. Even the alcohol was cheap back then. Ticketmaster destroyed the scene.

AC/DC, with Bon Scott, and Pat Travers opening. Six dollars
Alice Cooper on the From the Inside tour, paid a scalper twenty bucks for third row center.

back in the mid 90s a friend and I did an analysis of concert ticket prices. What we found is from the late 70s to the late 80s it took roughly 4 hours of minimum wage work. About 7 hours would get a ticket to a premium legacy act (Rolling Stones, the Who, David Bowie, etc) By the mid 90s it had gotten to 6 hours of minimum wage work to get a concert ticket.
In 2000 my wife and I started our family so for years I didn't go to shows, other then the occasional club show. Once my kids got older and they wanted to see some of my old bands I started going again. Now I'm spending around 4-6 hours of my daily income, which is well above minimum wage, for a ticket. They're out of high school and with their slightly above minimum wage jobs are spending over a days wage to go to arena shows.

When one company controls the venues, the promotion, the ticket sales, and likely the merch-that’s how that works until they get broken up there’s no possible way you’re gonna see anything remotely close to normal ticket prices again

The purchasing power of $1 today would have been worth about $3 in 1984. So, a $10 concert ticket back then would be equivalent to $30 now. I saw Iron Maiden with Twisted Sister for about $10 in 1985.

So many killer tours came through Denver this last year, and at times we were choosing one over the other because of the cost. Took my Son to Maiden and bought him a hoodie. 240.00 for hoodies alone, 250.00 for good seats. Outrageous. Kk's Priest was a bit more affordable for sure. I agree about the outdoor shows, unless it's Red Rocks. Metallica and Pantera are really expensive and then 2 nights in a row, no thanks for a band I've seen lots, and a tribute act. Cool video Doc.

I saw Priest on the Firepower tour, and my ticket was $150 + parking. That was the last big concert I've seen. I still go see Kansas because they always give me tickets and backstage passes. But only Richard Williams is left, so I'm done. I have a ticket stub for Black Sabbath, Dio on vocals for $10.50, Ted Nugent for $ 7.50 in the 80s, and many more.

Amen Brother! I was thinking the same thing Ripper said in the back of my mind. I saw KK’s Priest in Austin at the Paramount Theater with Accept opening in September. $60 something, I was ok with it & didn’t like the t-shirts so I didn’t get one. Then I saw Judas Priest with Sabaton at Circuit of the Americas which was 40 miles away like 3 & half weeks later. I was thinking that was kinda “sus” as my kid says. It was around the same price & I drove to the last parking area to not have to pay & a guy was there selling the t-shirts (Invincible Shield with special guest Sabaton on the back.) He was selling them for $20 & told me that inside the venue they were $50!! 🤬 so I bought it from him. But yeah, i wondered if JP was trying to upstage ole’ KK!! 🤔 But I did like both shows!
But then I paid a bit more to see Iron Maiden the next month in my city (San Antonio) in a bigger arena. I went because this was such a big piece of my childhood. These were my 2 favorite bands in the 80’s when I was a kid. And I took my oldest Son with me. I didn’t get a shirt- they were too expensive & I was already wearing an older Maiden shirt from the last time I saw them. And you’re right, you can buy that stuff online. So I paid…probably too much! But Nicko retired not long after so I at least I got to see him one last time! And my Son got to see some REAL Music for a change! 🎸🤘🏻

Gig prices are complete horse shit these days...i wanted to go see Y&T at my local venuse and by the time i added up all the costs it was WELL over £100 double that up when im taking my girl and add to that cab fares its cheaper to go on holiday to spain for a week i shit you not. I cant remember the last time i saw a band live because of stupid prices.
Also missed Cradle of Filth because it was nearly £50 just for a ticket not including vat or booking fee.

I've been to 197 concerts and after seeing Roger waters " the wall" show in 2010, I will never go to another concert. Nothing will come close to that show ever again. $115 dollars and I had a good seat. People are sheep, why go see priest with no Glenn or kk? Or any band with 1 or no original members. The 80' s were the prime era to see all the great bands in their heyday. The magic and vibe of those days is gone forever

Well done and a another fine job Almost Human!
I too as you enjoyed classic Priest shows of the 80's ( sadly not the 70's ), the 1990/91 Painkiller show in Toronto as well as the 1996-97 Jugulator show in Toronto and the 2004 JP Re-United tour, but sadly the Priest-Machine has become a skeleton of his former self with Halford and Hill living in some kind of fucking dream-land pretending the present Priest band is relevant!
KK's Priest??? Asides from releasing 2 killer albums ( that are heavier than the last 2 Priest offerings ) also a retaliation tactic giving a message to Rob, Glenn and Ian to go royally fuck themselves!

Floor seats for The Who , 1975 cost me $6.50. Inflation back then was a jump to $10.00 for The Eagles & Steve Miller Band in 1977.
AC/DC & Aerosmith, 1978 was $8.50 for 4th Row center. Kiss and Cheap Trick in 1977 for 6 Bucks, also floor seats.
Since the decline in CD, LP sales in this suck ass digital age, artists can only make money via touring. Even factoring in bullshit inflation, prices are out to lunch and the bands I like are over the hill or disbanded. Have to be content with memories.
