    That RGAIX7FM is my favorite. That shape, the sound, the looks. Amazing. Pretty much anything in the Iron Label right now is just top notch.

    I think it is fair to say that it doesn't matter what pickups, woods etc. are being used. Every single one of these instruments sounded awesome in the mix. Just buy whatever one your budget allows and CREATE MUSIC. Don't break your head over this tonewood or that humbucker or such scale length etc.

    honestly one of the best gear comparison videos I've ever seen.
    both the effort being put into this and this song is amazing!
    I must say out of the 8s the RG8 sounded better to me, and out of the 7s I think the RG has a better in humbucker positions while the RGA sounds better in split positions

    This song sounds amazing! :) and I own the RG8, and I find the standard pickups terrible.. There is a multiscale Harley Benton coming out next month that actually in specs is better with a neck through as well, for less money brand new, I think I'll be switching my RG8 for it.

    Hi! Thank you for such a nice comparision, love your work. I'm between the RGIF8 and the RGAIX7FM. The guitar I already own (6 strings) sounds closer to the AIX.
    I try to play kinda fusion jazz but I like to have any range for metal prog style riffs. Also I love to use some slap/tapping/walking bass licks and I don't how how great the EMG pickups would do it.
    Which one would you reccomend? Thanks!

      Cort kx 500 , I have one

    • @extirpatebabel
      @extirpatebabel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ibanez has passive pickups. Cort has the active. Ibanez has a shorter scale length. Good for solos but little loose for lower strings. Cort has longer scale for
      better low end and tighter chugs.
      Strings choice can help with the tension required or needed to lose.

    Jan, Do you think fanned frets are a real improvement for stringed instruments? if so, Why do you think this improvement has not become a standard in the building of guitars and basses?

    • @azazulsoulmeister7959
      @azazulsoulmeister7959 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they are imo, the lower scale length on the high strings keeps them from being super tight, and the high scale length on the lower strings keeps them nice and tight for better sharpertone. I think if they became an industry standard it would only be for 8 stringed and above guitars because it doesn't really do much for 6 and 7's unless you have a really long scale length. The reason it probably isn't industry standard is because iit seems that not very many people seem to like the idea. Seems to weird for them and they think the fanned frets would be hard to get used to.

    • @johnraviolli
      @johnraviolli 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Azazul Soulmeister maybe they're no make big difference if talking about intonation, but I guess that ergonomically there can be a notorious difference between fanned and regular. I've never played one of them, but I am really curious on having one of these

    • @azazulsoulmeister7959
      @azazulsoulmeister7959 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnraviolli Actually, there is a pretty big difference in intonation. Supposedly it makes every note perfectly in tune all across the fretboard. Not sure how they would cause that to happen, but that's what is said about them.

    • @ultimomos5918
      @ultimomos5918 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just actually returned my RGIF7. The fanned frets are actually pretty nice for lead work but chording can take some getting used to, especially near the lower end of the neck. For barre chords you'll actually be stretching your index finger towards the nut a little but which takes some getting used to. As I mentioned though, lead work is beautiful on a fanned fret, It really is more ergonomic. People are always worried about making the transition to fanned frets but honestly it hardly feels any different, aside from my earlier comment about chording. Since the fretboard has no markers though, looking at it while playing tended to throw me off at times. I however returned mine because try as I might, I am just NOT a fan of active pickups, which the RGIF7 comes loaded with EMG808X's. This also makes switching the pickups a huge pain as the EMG's are a blade style magnet since Ibanez tried to cut costs by going with 8 string pickups instead of custom designed slanted 7's. Pretty much the only thing I found that I could replace them with were Lace's, which are great pickups but at least about another $300 on an already $1000 guitar.
      I returned mine for an RGAIX7 which I believe I will enjoy much more. I've heard nothing but praise for the Dimarzio Fusion Edge pups and I prefer the arched top and beveled horns to the bulky feel of the IF7. Not to mention the RGAIX has a bound ebony fretboard and Gotoh locking tuners, something I would have thought would be important for the IF7. All in all, aside from the tonality differences that rely on having a longer scale length and the ease of lead work, fanned frets aren't entirely necessary. It really will come down to personal preference and while I didn't dislike playing on them I don't see them as a huge, game changing feature.

    Is it a big improvement the fanned frets over the straight scale man? Specially for both 8 strings? Nice song btw!

    • @DeathShark00
      @DeathShark00 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tave Garcia yes because the high strings are shorter, you can get bends and not kill your fingers. a 25.5 on the high side let's you use .10 or so, where a straight scale at 27 or 28 inch you'd need a .13 or so, it's tight and rips your fingers

    • @TaveGarcia
      @TaveGarcia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, now I have a 28" straight scale and Im using 9-80. I don't find it really hard to bend, actually it is quite easy. Lol.

      @DeathShark00 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TaveGarcia

    • @DeathShark00
      @DeathShark00 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tave Garcia ah makes sense my 7 was in f. but either way, yes it feels better with fanned frets because the tension is more natural and upper frets and chords are easier. I'm actually using the Ibanez 30 inch src6 and it's in d an octave lower. with 94 -24 lol, anything feels better after that thing

      Der Kommentar kommt ziemlich gelegen. Bin kurz davor mir fürs Frohe Fest eine der Gitarren zu holen. Jetzt stellt sich die Frage: RG752, RGAIX7, oder die RGDIX7MPBB von der jeder zu schwärmen scheint. Konnte bisher nur die RGDIX7MPBB spielen und war von den Pickups weniger angetan. Was meint our lord and saviour Jan/Panzerballett dazu?

    • @mcblack128
      @mcblack128  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wie immer alles Geschmackssache. RGD habe ich nur mal kurz in der Hand gehabt -- fühlt sich gut an und klingt gut, aber hatte keine Möglichkeit zum A/B-Vergleich. Pickups sind bei der RGA wie RGD identisch. Das Schöne an der RGA ist der Coil-Tap-Schalter. RGD-Optik erinnert mich auf den ersten Blick etwas an "Kindermöbel", aber das ist nur subjektiv. Bei der RG752 ist das Frequenzspektrum m. E. ausgeglichener, also insgesamt vielfältiger einsetzbar.
