I really think they get the items, they research the item then film the bit to make them seem knowledgeable about everything. Rarely does something come in they have no idea about.
Realistically, Rick could know an overview on a lot of things, but not know the market. While the show is fake, that bit is realistic

Theres actually episode that the deal didnt get trough as the expert unavailable and rick doesn't want to risk it.
And theres also an episode where rick just go trough the deal without the expert opinion as they're unavailable. I think its about japanese swords if im not mistaken.

@@rodbender8862 Its actually not staged. Its a real pawn shop. I stopped in when I went to Vegas. Its a lot smaller in person. I saw some of the items they bought on TV for sale so I'm assuming it's not staged. The funny dialog between the guys i.e Chum, Rick and Corey is probably scripted though.

he's going to low ball everything, so if you don't care, there you go...certainly how he makes money, and like that gold certificate, the value is right there in the currency green sheet. That customer was stupid, worth at a dealer about $5400.

I know people get into dire positions but man... 350 bucks just isn’t enough for a direct note from a guy like HST specifically for you. That’s a pretty personal and priceless thing to have in my opinion.
I have three books that have each been signed by the authors. I wouldn't want to give those up, wether they are famous authors or not.

What gets me every time is that the people that bring in these items expect top dollar or more and fail to get the idea that Rick or any other pawn broker has to buy lower and sell higher and be able to pay the bills in between.
Imagine selling a book that an iconic author left you a personal note in for 300 hundred something

I'd like to see an episode where someone actually pawns something, then comes back a month later and pays their loan to get it back.
I love it when people go into a Pawn shop and actually think that they’ll get the price that they are asking for. I was just in a Pawn shop the other day looking to get a cheap iPhone that I can use for a 2nd line. The guy I was waiting behind was offended that he was only offered 20 bucks for his used lawn mower. “But I paid $250 for it when I bought it?!”
