The point of the cat/pole scene was to show that Mob didn’t need to use his psychic abilities since he now has the physical strength to choose a different approach. He got to make a choice this time instead of his only option being to use his powers. It's less about the choice he made and more about the fact that he has a choice now
The next scene (the cake falling) shows that Mob is willing to use his abilities; It’s more clear in the manga but it’s implied Mob caught the cake (and intentionally had it hit Reigen's face) which shows that Mob is willing to use his abilities for jokes/pranks/non serious matters, which is a big deal for him and his character. These scenes together show he’s accepted his powers while also not wanting to always rely on them. His powers are just another part of himself that he picks and chooses when to use.

Yeah the cake scene makes a lot more sense that way. Good info.
As for the cat scene, your point about Mob having the choice does make a lot of sense. I just have a problem with the rescue scenario because the act of picking and choosing when a life is at risk feels weird to me. It's like Mob is playing god, picking to climb the pole out of a whim. Of course I know this wasn't the actual point of the scene. I just thought that the scene was a bit loose, as it could've been interpreted in a number of different ways that I stated in the vid.
Idk, knowing that Mob intentionally hit Reigen in the manga is enough of a resolution for me tho haha.

I believe the cake situation was made to show that Mob finally able to have fun using his powers, to ENJOY using them like he did in his youth and not being afraid of it nor stay away from using these with no direct need. And the cat scene i believe needed to point out that even through entire self acceptance thing Mob still keeps his morals and doesn't rely on his powers. The goal of self acceptance wasn't that he could just rely on his powers but it was about the end of being afraid of them and finally accepting that part of himself as something positive in life, something that he could finally stop reject and accept it's existence as something that not just cause troubles in life

It is inferred that the cake to the face was Mobs powers.

Mob is the one used the power on the cake. It's more clear in the manga.

Yeah that does make sense. Idk why the anime doesn't show Mob doing that, or maybe I'm just blind.

@@jingo123 The anime made it so subtle. Not just that scene, I've seen many anime onlies being confused about the final arc. I highly recommend reading the manga, at least chapter 99 and 100 to fully understand it.

@@chansfeet whoa, I just read chp 99-101 and rewatched a lil bit of ep 11 and 12. The anime just excluded a lot of important dialogue, especially when Mob was talking to his other self. The manga made those scenes 100x better. I liked how aggressive Mob's other self was (at least that's what it sounded like in my head).

@@jingo123 I wish Bones kept all the dialogues because they hit hard. It instantly became my favourite arc of all time, ever.

@chansfeet4130 well in anime you have limited time so it's hard to include everything. The manga didn't have the dialogue of Reigen talking about fixing the city when the anime did. I thought that was a good addition.

I think its the fact that he also wanted mob to accept shigeo kageyama for him to accept mob so the 2 scenes shows the side of psychical and spiritual strength

The cake stopped in mid air. So you can assume he was the one that stopped it.

There is something called principle and that is what mob psycho this anime truly shows till the end, he is someone who is growing but not perfect to live through his own sets of principles, that's why there will be questions as to why and when he will use his powers. One of the main point of this anime is that you see this internal struggle within himself throughout.

One said the way he approaches mob's story is to show the little steps from a bigger story. Might have not accepted himself fully in the end but it's a step in the right direction. I don't blame you for being confused about him saving the kid, I think it was just put there for the sake of plot and not as deep as others think. Great video.

As ONE said, Mob Psycho 100 is meant to be a massive story about taking one small step, and I honestly love if he hasn't fully 100% accepted, and that the ending could be interpreted as such. Accepting yourself is something that takes time and dedication, what mattered in the finale is that he finally understands the steps that need to be taken and I honestly really love that. It feels far more realistic, and encourages anyone, regardless of where they are, to take those small steps towards a brighter future.

I won't pretend to fully understand anything, but here's my take.
    1. Mob saving the kid without powers: that seems to be an instinctive choice, not a choice made with some much thought put into it. It's not impossible to keep your powers a secret while saving the boy (just blow a gust of psychic wind, have the car stop and make it look like a brake malfunction, etc.), but you could also argue that he simply didn't think of it given the lack of time. However, if you argue that he didn't have time to think of these things, then it's kinda unreasonable to assume he did have the time to weigh having his identity as a psychic discovered verses sacrificing himself when choosing how to save the boy. Besides, Mob doesn't seem entirely unwilling to prove that he's a psychic (like how he just showed off his powers to the telepathy club).
    2. Mob climbing the pole: I don't know. Perhaps he's still having trouble fully accepting his powers (change doesn't come in a day, and slow change isn't bad change). Perhaps it was pride like you said (tho I see no particular evidence for it, and a lack of evidence for alternatives isn't a strong argument). Perhaps he felt that since he can certainly save the cat with his psychic powers, so he should see if it's possible for him to do so without them (like testing your tools in a safe/controlled situation to make sure they work when it counts) or how difficult it is for someone without said powers, but again, these lack strong evidence. The issue is that this is all speculative. For all we know, he could've chosen to do so on a whim. All we know for sure is what he chose to do, so I think it's best to not pretend we know why. Whether making his motive unclear is a bad choice or not can be subject to debate (tho given the confusion it seems to have caused, it certainly can't be called a perfect choice).

      1. In the middle of editing the video I did actually realize that Mob having enough time to think about saving the boy was a dumb argument. I was hoping no one noticed lmao my bad.
      2. Yeah, the whole reason I made the video was because that scene was confusing to me. I think I was annoyed that there was no real closure in the epilogue about Mob's acceptance of his powers unlike the manga (where Mob intentionally flew the cake into Reigen's face). In the anime, all the focus was on his emotions.
      Good take tho 👌

I wondered the same thing. I assume this will just be a constant struggle for him. He'll probably never truly know for sure what to do for each circumstance. I think the biggest thing that changed though was his severe anxiety around it. He just doesn't fear and is much more accepting of that side than he was before.

Really enjoy this small tid bit of down to earth content, and I really hope you grow. I'd like to point out that one's themes are usually pretty dark in his manga both opm and mob psycho.

I think the scene with that cat and the boy was supposed to represent that mob didn’t have time to use his powers not that he didn’t want to with the cat that car was trying to stop and he helped it with the kid the driver didn’t wasn’t slowing down and the kid wasn’t making an effort to get out of the way and it all happened really fast thus he made a split second decision to push him out of the way and with the pole I don’t think it’s that he hates his powers I feel it’s more in line with one of the core themes of the show just because you have this amazing different thing that your exceptional at, does that mean you should abuse that? As well as all the slice of life moments in the show especially stuff like episode 8 and 7 in season 3 he starts using those powers to help makes lasting memories and moments with friends. I think definitely the reason he snapped after he got hit by the car was the incident either reminded him of the past and freaked him out or he snapped cause he was super focused on trying to see tsubomi and all the effort just to get thrown to the waist side pissed him off more than likely the first of those and it also makes more sense that it’s the first one since regan was the only one that could calm him down as a mirror of that moment after mob lost control the first time I also want to say I think it was genius to have mob technically be the main antagonist of the final arc as the show centers around how he and his control and personality changes the people around him who’s were usually antagonists and then become better people and reversing that and having it be the people he’s changed try to do the same for him. Truly a beautiful story from start to finish

the whole point of him not using his powers was because his powers are emotion based which is why he dosent express emotion Him accepting his power was also his powers accepting that he isn’t just powers and mob accepting that emotion/powers were just a apart of him which is why the cake part exist so does the pole part
