TikTok was caught monitoring clipboards, and literally seeing every key you typed (when Apple had an update that showed when user data was being used by apps). ByteDance got in legal trouble when it didn't follow Xi's ("president" of China) information sharing guidelines (they had to apologize and say they won't do it again essentially) awhile back, so how are they going to claim that they're not sharing information with China? As a conservative who firmly believes in uncensored internet, I think it's critical not allowing foreign governments to have information on future presidents and senators sitting in a database. And I think what Trump is doing with forcing them to sell their US TikTok operations (which Vox conveniently ignored this fact) is a good way of keeping the internet uncensored and not having US citizen's data in China's hands. This entire video was just a convenient sailing of the ship through this situation that fitted their agenda, I only watch Vox's videos to see what the economic elites are wanting the public to know, and therefore knowing where the future is heading.

So, I think it's beneficial to understand that the US government isnt banning tik tok as a form or "we must control our country's internet" and is strictly doing so as a part of a world wide anti China embargo. It's a weird phenomena to be amidst, but the US will still be as free and open an internet as it always has been. The concern is the integrity of business in China. Important it is to recognise the company's statement as being neutral from government control, China still is a country that has massive control and power over its businesses so it is very unsure whether that statement is trustworthy.
US is about to have one of the least free and open internet accesses in the world which will subsequently cause the rest of the world to follow. Net neutrality is going away, and it might be too late to change that.
It seems like there's a pretty easy to leave here. The problem isn’t about limitations to free unrestricted internet. It’s about valid concerns of a FOREIGN GOVERNMENT stealing American data from the American people. THATS THE ISSUE. It’s a problem of national security and I support the ban.
it's? super not??? facebook and twitter "steals american data" just as much as tikok. not only that, but it "steals data" from international users, too. mind you, "stealing data" just means learning about a user's online habits to recommend them content they like and ads that suit them, nothing more and nothing less. tiktok isn't special in that regard. if facebook and google and twitter aren't "problems of national security", then neither is tiktok.
So its oK for American govt to steal data of people of other countries ? What about their security ? The arrogance of American exceptionalism is simply nauseating.
Little Wing Jhendrix ... If a foreign government believes their data is being stolen by another government, it’s their responsibility to do something about it.
Overly Asian ... Facebook and Twitter are American companies. THEY “steal data” for advertising purposes. It’s not right but they want better targeted ads.
That's what i thought. Cause maybe it would be reasonable to ban something like this over security concerns and data collection.

Matured gang I would say lol
Same here I don’t care and I’m in the target demographic lol (I’m 18) they can just move on to another app anyway lol
Anyone over the age of 15 shouldn't care about Tiktok
You completely skipped over the main reason we need to ban TikTok
eddie mena And that is....
Well, so did trump
@@aboriginalmang Yeah I sorta agree with having a forceful stance is good but Trump barely makes a decent point lol
And which is?
Gordinhu RoBlox the fact that the CCP can use it to spy on US Citizens
Why are people not talking of the fact that China have banned every successful international app in their own country?
Maybe you have a bad memory. Google And Facebook left on they're own accords because they didn't what to follow Chinese internet laws. As a result China banned them.
@@melli7193 Chinese laws like censor any criticism of CCP and share data of ever user?
because...they are americans. They never realise things before its already done...0 vision
China is just getting a small taste of it's own medicine. You can't have the cake and eat it too.
@@SkpalTube I'm just replying to your point and saying that the Corporations left first and were banned after they left. If this is "revenge" then which law did tiktok break.
Edit:spelling
This video didn't age so well. Who's here on 2024?
This argument seems skewed. To me personally the issue with TikTok or WeeChat is that it can potentially act as a massive surveillance tool, which is legally obligated to provide data to a totalitarian regime.
It's the main reason why I would never use it, so I welcome a move which forces it to change the ownership structure.
Good point the video is a bit skewed
yes indeed,
Exactly. They are not focusing enough on this.
The mexican man in 3:19 got me howlingg 😭😭😂😂😂
