Morgan, Physics graduate and retired engineer here. I think what you may need with that hose is a three way junction at the high point, with a short vertical drain leg, that is normally shut off with a stop valve at the end... then when you need to drain the hose you just open that valve at the end of the third leg to air at the same time as you disconnect the water feed, and the other two legs should then fully drain out without back siphoning water from each other.

But not too close to the fence, or they'll be jumping over!

@@TheOtherSteel thankyou, I never knew anxiety could be soooo bad. I am in the middle of getting new meds cause my old ones didn’t work anymore/ the side effects were getting to real and ended up causing more attacks
Try lemon balm. Tinctures are strongest, capsules less so then teas are mildest. Good luck. Hugs.

I also love watching Abby distribute the straw inside the birds' coop - she seems to derive such pleasure from that simple "chore", which for her is clearly a joy.
After living in New England for twenty years, I took a job in Saudi Arabia. In order to recreate the New England winter effect, I'd turn the A/C way down and then stand by the window which felt like a woodstove in winter. The effect actually worked.
I'm amazed by how you reconstructed your favorite feeling/atmosphere. Simple, but it works.

Always gives me a reason to smile when I see a GSF on my subscriber page. Have to say it was a pretty day, but you could see it was cold. Love the goats, they’ve settled in well and I think I’ve finally memorized their names except for one (Temeculas or something like that). Loved the 15 minutes of peace, thanks Morgan. FYI, if you have the time, teaching your dogs & goats to do the traditional goat greeting of the head touch (both just gently touching the top of their heads to one another) they will be better accepted by the goats.
That Musher's Secret lasts for years and is always in our house. Dogs seems to hate us putting it on but its the difference between them acting normal on cold days and tippy tap discomfort.
Something I love about having animals is their antics. They are always good for a chuckle or a giggle.

Love to see the farm as always. To clear your water lines, get a small air compressor and rig up a fitting that lets you connect the air line to the hose. Then just turn it on and wait until the hose is clear!

I would love to see if you could get a Turkish Kangal or at least a mix! Since I am a huge fan of the breed, there is a youtuber I watch to learn more about the breed called Ash The Kangal. He discusses his experience owning a male Turkish/Boz shepherd mix, maybe he knows someone that has a female who he can connect you with to breed Toby, he lives in Canada (Ontario I believe) so somewhat close to you. Kind of a stretch but they are some of the best livestock guardian dog breeds out there!
The best dream is the one that was never considered, planned, or set as a goal because it seemed impossibly out of reach, and then, out of the blue, it surprises you when it starts to come into view as possible.

Might get a 3 way hose split. So when empty it can suc air at the base. Because the in ground pole wil need air in it to. And the 2 way at bird pole. Only 1 hose and air vent.

Love the videos. Especially the one about the state of small farms in America. Around here in NE Ohio, old farmers sell their land to Ryan Homes or some other huge builder. They then create McMansion subdivisions with a HOA. Entire neighborhoods devoid of trees with cookie cutter gables on every house.

To drain the water from your long hose all you need to do is make sure both ends of the hose are open.
You could disconnect from the faucet or have a bit of hose connected near the faucet with a valve you can open.
Love Toby and Abby dogs we have Maebel and Mr. Mackie on our farm in Troy Maine.
Can you install a 1-way valve at the top of the water system ( at the highest point ).
The idea is to have an air intake there to let the line drain easy and fast from both ends at the same time, but close automatically when you have line pressure ( when you turn the water on ).

Morgan, it looks like the hose for the ducks is bending too much why will break it in the cold. In the future, put a piece of pool noodle on it so t cannot bend so harshly. Cheap and easy solution.
Great video! You should bust ice more than 2x a day in those temps imho. Plenty of water so important for health in winter.
Keep your duct tape handy for repairing your hose as new leaks may develop over time. You may not have to replace the hose before Spring.

Morgan, I use a cordless air blower to blow out the water from my pipes at camp so they don't freeze. Might be something you might find handy.

maybe you could use one of those air pumps people use in fish ponds to keep the cow water bins from freezing over.
i used to do that when i still had goats years and years back when the winters where freezing good.

About ice in the trough, I wonder if it can be reduced by insulating the sides. Perhaps as simple as stacking one in another like you see in the store. The air of course will still freeze the surface, but it would make it harder to freeze the bulk.
Ngl, I´d duct tape the hose as much as needed, too, until it´s warmer and more comfortable to repiar xDAlso I really love how Baby B´s eyes are so nicely visible from how her fur grows ^^
Off the top of my head, I can think of 2 possible reasons why American breast hybrids are small. The first is that the gene that causes them to grow so large is split in half so to speak, with half of it being passed down by the father and half passed down by the mother. When the two halves come together, it causes increased growth but having only 1 half of it reduces growth. The other possibility is that there is a mutation in their growth gene. Having 1 copy of it inhibits growth, while having 2 copies of it promotes growth.

For draining, open up your hoses on both sides, then there should be no suction.
