Nicely done! I've got 11 years in "hand" fabrication with sheet metal and this is the only build I've seen where the EDGE of the bending leaf is in contact with the metal and does the bending just like a "real one". The finger brake I used was 48" wide and could handle 14g material.

Novel approach on the hinges. You didn't cut anything out to weld them to the bend line, but added material thickness to the purchased hinges to get rotation about center. I have wondered if purchased hinges had too much slop. Everyone else cuts the angles and uses tubes with pins for centering hinges. The only thing lacking is the finger adjustment for different thickness of material to be bent. Something like the chain tightener on a motorcycle rear wheel would make this complete. Your "gantry" doesn't appear to flex when you make a bend. I'd like to go to 16 ga. steel and 24" with. This concept should work for that provided I make it stiff enough. I'd like to see more detail on the relationship of pieces and less sparking the welder and smoking holes with the drill press. Thanks for the ideas. One of your replies below suggests that you can't bend deep enough boxes. Yours appears to be able to bend deeper boxes than any other that I have seen. I would like to have 4" depth. I didn't see the "bender" sticker. I'll look again, and also see if I can figure out what Matthew Warfield was talking about with the "edge of the bending leaf is in contact with the metal and does the bending just like a 'real' one."

Thanks for watching. I have since made a lot more fingers for different widths and thicknesses. The machine still works great and has bent much thicker stock than I expected. Good luck on making your own.

A finger setup and a cam clamp is so versatile. Make one for sure. I hope you post it too.

    Nice !!!
Gonna make it. SWAG has one, but, they don't show you the changing of the fingers which I can only see fighting with as they drop out when you untension the bolts that hold them in, gotta be captured, just like you show here.

I cut and welded a cam that lowers the fingers. The turnbuckles change the height and force.

Steal what you want. Try to make the clearance tall enough though. I can only make smaller boxes with this geometry. The next one will be bigger.

I hope you do make one. I will say the height of the box is limited to the height of the fingers. I should have made this much bigger.

Trevor Higgins Good to know, I will keep that in mind. You might just have to modify yours to fit larger fingers.

you can buy that design out of poland ready built for 200 quid , with better hinges ,,
time against cost , your actually not winning here , unless you were doing nothing at all ,,, then well done , but you need to re think your hinges.

Tbh - He has a lathe, If he has a 4 jaw chuck he can make a better set of hinges when he needs to
