This was a love letter written to their fans as a thank you for the love they felt during their last US tour. This is the third such love letter to their fans, the others being "Smile" and "About Us". They have quite a few ballads actually. The video was filmed at Antelope Valley just outside of Lancaster, California.
The song is a thank you to the US fans that were so welcoming to them last year and you can only really do that in a slow tempo song if you want it to sound heartfelt. About Us and Smile are in a similar vein, written for and about their fans and how appreciative they are. Memorable resonates more with those who were lucky enough to have seen them in the US last year and dedicated fans like me but not so much to the casual fan or those who want the same stuff over and over. For me one of the great attractions of BM is their variety and not knowing what's coming next.
There's something you need to know to really "get" this song. It's not a love song as in two people. It's a love song between the Band-Maid and their fans. Not that this song wasn't meant to be enjoyed by all, but when they say "you showed me that last night" - they mean the show the night before where the crowd roared like true maidiacs to show how much we loved this band. If you were at one of their shows last fall - they're talking to you. So another line - "you love me" and "I want to shine on you tonight" - you should know that they have said that they never really believe they're going to pack the house, as they're pretty humble maids, until they see it - so they were blown away by the unbelievably enthusiastic fans - so they want to return those great feelings by shining on us again tonight - at the next gig. if you listen to it again with that in mind, and especially if you have been a supporter of them through the years, you just might feel a lump in your throat when they're singing that. To you.
After 3 long years *BAND-MAID* returned back to the US for their October 2022 US tour they were worried if the fans would remember them since last time, they performed in the states was back in 2019. But once they returned, they were pleasantly surprised on the reception they received.
So surprised that *Kanami* was inspired to write a song during the tour later *Miku* and *Saiki* then began writing the lyrics and on January 9th 2023 *BAND-MAID* presented to the fans at TOKYO GARDEN THEATER.
Now it is presented to the rest of the world!

In the beginning there was a small pigeon 🐦 who met a guitarist 🎸 who played with a drummer 🥁 who went to school with the bassist 🎸 and then tricked the singer 🎤 to join the band then the small pigeon 🐦 asks the guitarist 🎸 please teach me how to play the guitar 🎸. The Story Continues.
This song was their expression of Love to the fans for their tremendous support during the '22 US tour. It was debuted at the Tokyo Garden Theater show in Jan '23. I believe Miku did the field shots during their OA gig with The Last Rockstars at the Hollywood Palladium. Btw, as others have mentioned, Miku filmed her part East of Lancaster with some Joshua trees in the backdrop.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I appreciate American fans' support to and embracing Band-Maid during their 2022 US tour. Your warm hearts ultimately made Kanami, Miku and Saiki create this beautiful ballad with a main part of lyrics in English. (Did you view this video with cc on ?) I believe that is the one and only reason why they filmed this MV in the USA (Mojave Desert). We, Japanese fans, were honored to enjoy its live debut on Jan.9. I was there at Tokyo Garden Theater. The audience was soothed by two serial songs "About Us" and "Memorable", two love letters to their fans.
MISA is playing bass without a pick. Also Kanami has her pick in her mouth so she can play fingerstyle and then back to pick playing.

Damn. Guessing Steven Wilson must have written this for them! So pop like! lol!!! Not my thing. I like this band but as you said, not what I want from them. Your reaction here is what us long time SW fans were thinking with Permanating. We come to expect so much from artists we like but tend to get songs like this, or adult contemporary albums like hold your fire, or complete shifts in style from bands that want to move their sound forward. Maybe that is better than putting out 10 albums that all sound alike like Dream Theater has been doing lately.
You have three songs like this from Band Maid… all love songs to their fans. It’s your thing if you love the band the way they love their fans.
