    I've had my Strike Pro SE for 2 weeks! This video was amazingly helpful. WOW! What a game changer, not only a pleasure to play but to hear it triggering like this is mind blowing! Can't thank you enough brother! Awesome playing as well sir! Subscribed!

      Thanks man! I've put this kit through hell and back LOL and REALLY know it inside and out in almost any context and am a total believer in it! I play and record all the time so I am always still learning new ways to improve as well and sometimes fix things that happen. Its a VERY deep kit and deep with stuff we NEED, not useless bells and whistles. I am hoping for a new firmware update at some point to hopefully give some eidting and kit creation short cuts! Thats personally what I would like to see. Ability so save full voices/pads separately making customization much easier. Find and PM me on facebook and I'll give you a bonus

      These drums you’ve made them sound really good! I’ve only watched the first clip but it just sounds like a mic’d drum set with a little reverb added. I can say though I hated the feel of the high hats that came with this kit, they were way too stiff for me. Since I’m never gonna be playing acoustic drums again in this lifetime and I still want to make music I’m hoping the brand new Alesis kit will be the shure shot in the future. Of course I’ll probably only want to buy the module and trigger it through a hybrid kit. My goal is to go for very warm vintage sounds!

    ive had my strike pro, from when they first went to market. After watching your video, Ive discovered Ive not been using my snare head trigger, because the sensitivity was set too low, & the rim was set too high, taking over the snare. Anyway I just adjusted all my triggers, & the snare sounds so much better now. Thanks for the knowledge.

I've imported sounds that I've been putting together since then and if you're interested, I can give you information. I assume you're on Facebook find me there and DM me..

    Cheers Allen. I have just ordered my SE kit on the basis of what you have shown. I nearly didnt buy it because I have read just as many bad reviews as good ones and that put me into a 50/50 mindset for a while which for me when Im doing or buying anything, especially when spendiing around £2600 all in with accessories, monitors etc, is not good enough odds. It could be an expensive mistake. However I can now see clearly past the "pitfalls" and the work arounds which are clearly there once you know how to find them and what the terminology means. I have been playing for around 35yrs on some really nice acoustic kits but have never delved into using technology except for our own click and backing tracks and I've certainly never triggered anything. Its never too late to learn someting new so in a few days I will be setting up my brand new SE kit, re-visiting yours and a couple of other very helpful videos in how to get the best from this kit. Thank you for taking the time to share this and ultimately helping me and others 👍

      @@AllenLind how do you go about getting the customized imported samples like that?! My strike pro SE will be delivered tomorrow!! And another question. What kind of amp do you use for live playing? I’m looking for something LOUD that I can use for crowded live rooms and it still be loud enough to hear perfectly without breaking the bank. I used to big bass guitar amps on my old alesis DM-7 kit and they were ungodly loud

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jeffmd2020
      RE: Samples. PM me on facebook and I'll explain about my ;library. As for amp... I play medium rooms live with this with a band that only has a stick pa with 15 and horm on each side. I use for my personal FOX sound a Harbinger v2315 which kicks ass but I also put my sound through the PA for spread. You will need a mixer too . This is a MUST! plugging into powered speakers with out one is not going to cut it. You need extra gain (gain staging). Either way you need to go through the PA otherwise you sounbd will only eminate from one spot. Unfortunately you'll have to spend a little $$. The v2315 are rated at 2000 watts which doesn't mean much in itself but they get very loud AND clear and don't break a sweat. There is a harbinget 22 series which aren't as good. . I actually have 2 but only use one +PA. Also Mackie thumps are muddy. I use a mackie pro fx 10 w a graphic (older version) and its perfect. I also have a harbinger v2212 right next to me for a monitor. YOU MUST HEAR YOURSELF CLEARLY ON AN EKIT!!! . My sounds are very powerful and will cut through any rock/pop music with proper amplification,. Using an ekit live is a lot of work. Get VERY familiar with it at home before you even attempt it live. Triggers will act differently live on stage than in a studio so really understand the kit! Download and read the manual/ user guide multiple times from the product page. Also Mackie thumps are muddy. I use a mackie pro fx 10 w a graphic (older version) and its perfect. If you PM me on FB I'll show you a few pics of my setup

Otherwise all the trigger settings revert to the original as these are global in the module. I didn’t read the manual and just glossed over that part. Oh, one comment about the video here. You mention log 1 for the Cymbal Bows but the summary text is reflecting log 2. Probably too late to correct it. But I must say the settings work quite well for me. I am especially thankful for the "I forgot" input about the knobs on the sides of the drums. This will help a lot getting started. There are MANY synergies in the triggers along with the voice ->Vel tab-> Vel Level that really effect the response. Suggest for voices on ALL drums and cymbals EXCEPT ride and drum rims you set vel level to 99. Rims are less sensitive and move that parm lower to say 60. Play the surface while moving that parm and see what happens. Use extremes to learn the effect and READ THEDOWNLOADABLE USER GUIDE! Also watch my DM pedal video. I stopped using the strike HH years ago and moved to the Alesis DM hihat continuous pedal so hence that video. There is also one here on the strike hihat but its not the best quality but it too should get you in the ballpark but I really recommend watching the DM PEdal. Also watch this playlist. My most recent music and vids show acoustic kit but the recording is all strike pro with my own custom imported samples. th-cam.com/play/PLWMSKolvMwTrfD8yZI4mO2sIXrWd8HpCn.html

I'm getting pissed off now, another prolonged attempt to get they to respond, which they did, and finally sent me a new unit that worked. @@robertkees6048 that sucks that you had that much trouble. How’s your power source? Make sure you have clean power just in case but who knows. Alesis strike to me is the best sounding and most useful module out there but some people have experienced quality issues. I know for a fact the ride symbol is poorly constructed and I’ve been through quite a few of them and I still have one strike ride that works but I also will use the DM 16 two cable ride, which is pretty good replacement and they’ll send it to you if you happen to have a ride that fails and you request it at least they used to. I haven’t had to deal with the Lisa service now for a couple of years but they were always pretty responsive. • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First make sure your in ears are a proper fit. loose fitting in ears will take away almost ALL of your low end. That said what specifically are you having issues w re: in ears. What kind do you have? What are they connected too (headphone jack? Mixer?)? Are you using them with a band or by yourself? How much outside noise is there (other amps, PA etc)? You likely will need something like a behringer powerplay in ear amp but likely your first issue is probably the in ears aren't all the way in your ears and night tightly fit. Thank you so much for getting back to me…. I do use a Behringer 4 channel little board to power my ears. My band uses an X32 mixer. My acoustic drums sound fine though them. I was just wondering if there was any suggestions you have on the in ears EQ or do I just experiment? Which is fine.
      I’ve been watching all your videos. Awesome and clearly understandable guidance.

      @@dandillon2010 Sorry more questions. lAre you sending main outs (L+R) to the board and getting the feed back from the x32 or are you taking an independent signal from the strike directly to your mixer? Are you using the 8 outs at all? Basically depending on the kit your using ( I use mostly custom samples etc), you shouldn't need to do too much as the good sounding kits are basically already eq'd well for direct out and headphones. I'd also go very light if any on actual compression (not the gain I talked about) because even a little compression live will make your kit mud and not cut through. As for tone, Maybe a hi pass on the over all sound at like 35-40 to filter out super sub frequencies to avoid distortion and other eq to taste. Remember that the individual voices have the tone tab which has a hi and lopass filter. I find for my sounds live, the 2 lowest toms from my sounds a very bottom heavy so I put a hipass on them set only to like 2-4 at most. I also dial down some low tom decay to get rid of some "ring". Like using a little moongel. If you're on Facebook, DM me and I'll give you the lowdown on my library and you can decide what you want to do. What kits do you use? Curious as to what sounds your using as there is quite the variety in the stock sounds. Best homegrown STOCK kits i recommend are from SIREN DRUMS. He has free downloads on the youtube channel

      There very little you can do from a practical sense. If drums are super important to you, maybe you need to move . Sorry to sound flippant but Im not. i could NEVER live in an apartment. Anything that impacts one surface to another will make noise and vibrations. If you have neighbors up down or on the sides you will have issues. Kicks especially transmits serious vibrations through floors and mesh pads on hollow drum shells with also resonate. The SE is a high end kit and you may need to consider rubber pads instead. Also look up tennis ball platforms. They supposedly help. Hang rugs, drapes or any sound absorbing material two inches from the walls and make sure you play on some isolating rug but it may not help much

      Thanks and good luck! Kits from drumtec do not include trigger settings! Nor do they ANY sounds not included with the strike. They are simply layered for youy but are things you should be able to do yourself! A better an FREE alternative however comes from Siren Drums youtube from his video on the Black and Wghite kit where he includes his own EXCELLENT customized layered sounds for FREE!! NOTE: Triggers are GLOBAL and not on the SDCARD nor are saved with kits so regardless of the kits you use, these trigger settings apply to ALL! The Vel Level in the Kit Vel tab however will effect your dynamics. I suggest for everything (except maybe snare rim) you set to 99! The low the setting the less dynamic so if you want you drums to have the same velocity sensitivy from the multisamples as an acoustic kit, 99 is the proper value. Do that on BOTH layers of each pad AND cymbal but please experiment! Thats how you will learn what these do. Also, I used to have my overall Utility Trigger Sens -> LOW as it helped with triggering VSTs but lately ive had it on HIGH but just made adjustments to compensate, mostly sensitivty. You'll just have to use these as a guide

Great cymbalswells, awesome hihat reponse and overall understanding of the module, thanks to you!! I have been really struggling with the output volume from the stereo outs. Only setting the comp to 24 will give me some output that is even with my strike multipad. But it causes a big humm when going through my mixer or direct into the active speaker. Could it be that there is something wrong with the outputs? Again Thanks for your videos, keep them comune!

      You shouldn't need to raise the comp level anywhere near that. Are you compressing the kit, maybe way too much? This problem goes away at a 8-10 setting, but then I am loosing some dynamics. Any thought on what might be causing this ghosting? Cheers!

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is some pieces are touching other peices. What pads/voices are "ghost triggering?" You shouldn't have that even with thresholds as low a 6 for most cases. Make sure your sensitivityies arent overly high eother but the ghost triggering is usally associated with low thresholds and / or sympathetic vibrations or just direct contact with other peices. Its odd it occurs when kit is ido but if things are touching even a sligh contact COULD cause a trigger. :Lastly, is anything hooked up to midi in? Is you module hooked to a computer? If so try unplugging the use from computer as you MIGHHT be getting some "phantom" midi in signals from the computer. Lastly, make sure the kick isn't touching the rack. What are your thresholds at on your cymbals? Is it triggering you bows and edges? Are any of the rack boom/Tom brackets touching each other transferring vibration? Thresholds shouldn’t be lower than 6 on anything. Also lower sensitivities to where you don’t lose any response. Lastly increase crosstalk send on the 10 and increase crosstalk receive on the cymbals that are “leaking”. Fyi A little crosstalk doesn’t matter. Real drums resonate each other too to a degree and when your playing may not be noticeable but check out all those things. Having rack attachments touching each other and or too low thresholds are the biggest causes I’ve found

Your retrig 23, mine 54. I tried changing just one of the two and vise versa, to see if I could have either value and make it work, I'd get double hits like crazy with your settings. I also use a RT-30 rolkand bass drum trigger on one of my kits and it works perfect. What kick trigger are you using? I'd break my back getting them resources, giving them things they'd need, searching out links for their situation, sometimes even free lessons, and every single time they'd just end up quitting. So deflating. When I started all I had was passion but I was in Saudi Arabia in the 80s (dad had a job for the airlines so he moved us there a few years). No teachers, no music stores, no internet, no books. I found a real copy strat in a toy store, found a girl at school that knew how to tune it, and just muscled my way through it rewinding cassettes over and over and over to match the sounds I was hearing. ONLY solution that works for HH is the DM Pedal (DID YOU WATCH MY VIDEO???) or maybe the FD 8 but you'll learn the hard way. YOure retrigger at that number guaranteed will cause missing hits but again not sure about the trigger youre using but it sounds like its too hot. Sell it and get an RT30 kick from Roland. Otherwise between your kick and hihat you'll be distracted continuously and your playing will suffer. YOu're supposed to play your kit without anything mistriggering taking away from your music focus. It's not a flaw, it's by design EZ Drummer three only supports five toms in their kit which is really plenty which and part of the reason why easy Drummer three is under $200 and superior Drummer three is twice as much and, in my opinion, doesn't even sound as good. The Strike Pro only supports four toms unless you split which you must be doing . If you want to use easy drummer, three with six toms import the multi samples yourself ising sdse and strike
      Editor into the module and adjust pitch of the appropriate drum so you can get six toms with appropriate pitches,, which is what I do anyway. And if you're going to trigger easy, Drummer three use one of your other Toms for a different sound . It's easy to remap the midi . also so when I use easy Drummer three I don't even use all the toms. I just go with the four and depending what I'm doing I select which four I want. Slate 5 only supports 4 from triggering aspect

      @@AllenLind - Hey Allen! Yeah I get that it's by design. When I say flaw I don't mean a glitch, or bug. I just mean it's a shortcoming of the sw in my opinion. It would take nothing to allow you to add toms. Also, to be fair: When you say it doesn't sound as good, I think it's probably drum kit dependent more than superior audio quality. They're both recorded professionally, often in legendary studios with the best engineers, musicians, mics, etc. Very impressive the lengths they often go to in how they're recorded. When I popped open SD2 the first kit I played to my ears actually sounded better than EZ3's house kit, but again, EZ3 also has kits that sound better than some of my SD kits. As far as sound quality though I find them equal. Both are 24bit
      Yeah I'm definitely running splitters to get all my toms used. Wow, GREAT TIP on SDSE thanks! I'm unfamiliar with SDSE but did a little digging and it sounds promising. That's what I need, the proper workaround for this and once again you've come through. I will study on how to accomplish this.
      As of this moment I'm just using SD2 which allows as many toms as I want. The Rock Solid kit is great. I'm still toying with the idea of using a real snare mixed in with my electric kit. I'm big on ghost notes and I find myself, no matter how much I adjust sensitivity / take off compression, etc, having to use the side of the snare head to get softer yet accurately triggered ghost notes. But it still doesn't have the dynamics of a real snare. I used to have a Dunnett snare which I was in love with. Hopefully I can find something a little more reasonably priced IF I go that route
      Btw, I do LOVE EZ3. Primarily due to certain kits. I used my free plugin promo to get the Industrial kit for some super unique sounds and those sounds have been triggering song ideas for me like crazy even though I'm not typically big into non acoustic sounds) and at the end of the day, my #1 music priority is writing songs so I can't tell you how excited I am. Anything that gets song ideas flowing for me really makes me happy.
      Happy New Year brother, hope your Christmas was good too

      @@ikigai47 it's not about the sound quality it's about the type of sounds that are recorded. Superior Drummer three sounds are all very naturally recorded Sounds that are great if you're looking for pre-production sounds but easy Drummer three sounds are music ready , like slate 5 and ready to go with many styles of music right out of the box. Superior drummer three is beautifully recorded but as is l, they completely lack impactand my opinion do cut through out of the box with most popular Music styles. Hi Allen. Thank you for your valuable info. I started playing drums 5 months ago and bought my new alesis strike pro se and I have a problem with the bass drum. I have to set the millenium pedal beater far way up from the center of the drum head in order to have a normal sound. If I set it in the middle I have to hit very hard in order to barely have a sound. What is the problem? Should I use the plastic part (black) or white part( felt)?

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the beater hits as much in the center of the large impact pad as possible. Sometimes the trigger assembly inside the the bass drum moves back from the head leading to poor piezo contact. If my settings don’t help, take the batter head off and check that the quarter sized piezo is sitting maybe 1/8 in above the wooden rim of the bass drum and then make sure the assembly is secure but don’t overtighteb and strip the wood. The piezo needs to make solid contact with the head as it picks up the vibrations from the beater hitting the impact pad.

      @AllenLind  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ironmike92 well you can't do full velocity settings like triggers overall because those are global and you only have one set of trigger settings in the whole module which is the case in all brands However, in each voice, you have the VEL tab. The first parameter for each layer is velocity level and this does pretty much I believe what you're asking for. I have a library of almost 30 GB of sounds and hundreds of kits taken from all the major sources has a lot of these things fine tuned already but as an FYI, if you lower the level on a particular voice/layer, let's say use the symbol as an example you'll get more consistent hits for inconsistent trigger surfaces like ride bell start w 72 on the ride bell and see what happens) . For everything other than a few of the cymbals you should have thise set to 99 and you'll get the most realistic response (snare and Tom's) and you could find that from there. I mean if you use 50 kids it's a lot of effort to go through them all but if you use a few main kids, you can easily fine-tune that. And there are a few other parameters within that tab that are also very interesting and fun the mess around with. If you're interested in my library DM me on Facebook and if you're not on Facebook, let you know I'll give you another way. Also I have my trigger settings which are likely as good as they can get (some people like minor tweaks) that I can share but again, the midi ox (or similar for Mac) .

Play just a little bit harder and BOOM. So annoying. Do the trigger settings you talked about on the snare work for the kick drum? Adjust you threshold lower as that determine the soft response and then adjust the sentivity up from zero until you here the full sound and add a few numbers to that. also use linear curve for ALL drums. Is there a way to add rimshot to the snare rim? Maybe a silly question but, every time I hit the snare it keep saying “rim”. I cannot figure out how to make the rimshot on the snare, an actual rimshot

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On any and all ekits (except maybe the digital Roland) you cannot trigger the rim and head simultaneously.
      If you want a rum shot you can add the rim shot sound to the snare rim layer 1 and a side stick layer 2. Then you adjust the individual velocity levels in the main voice view to trigger the sidestick with quieter hits and rimshot with hard hits. The. You fine tune the trigger level using the vel level in the vel tab to raise or lower the level of the hits. Then you need to practice hitting rim shots and side sticks cause if you hit both the same time,’one sound will cancel

    • @AllenLind

I should say I bury my beater and I like it that way, I don't want to change my playing style since it works perfectly with my acoustic kit

    • @AllenLind
      @AllenLind  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t need to change your technique! Try this.. get an Evan’s patch and use felt side of beater to minimize bounce. As long as You have a patch you can use felt and the Evan’s patch is a great material not overly bouncy. Then, set retrigger to 20, sensitivity to 30 and thresh to 18. My overall utility trigger = high. Start with those things. You may need to play with pedal tension too. It all works together but you shouldn’t need to change style. I bury the beater too for solid beats etc.

      The edge is a relatively small area. For crashes assign an sound to edge and bow sound to bow. When you crash the cymbal like you would hit a normal Crash symbol you’re going to get the Edge sound and if you try to ride the bow you’re going to get the Bow sound. Trying to figure out exactly where the boundaries is a waste of time. Just use the symbol like you normally would and he symbol and you’ll be fine. When you hit the crash cymbal kind of straight on or with a slicing motion you’re going to get the edge sound.
