First thing government should do is rethink tax on EVs especially vans
👌
Driver's are being screwed from each and every angle, even after you pay a small fortune to go EV ! Let's face it Jim, the gov's aim is to remove people from our over populated roads and if you do manage to carry on driving, it will cost the Earth. Great content as always. Have a great Sunday ! 🌞
PS. My friend bought a Tesla 3 in late 2019 and after less than 39000 miles, the battery needed replacing. Tesla fitted a new one for free but, Tesla didn't give him the 8 year guarantee on the new battery. They said the warranty on the battery would run out 8 years after start.
That’s generally the same on an engine swap
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Didn't know that !
I will stick to driving my TD5 defender which I’ve owned for 19 years, thank you very much. It owes me nothing, I service it myself every six months and it’s as reliable as I need. My wife and 5 year old daughter regularly drive long distances to support my geology research and it’s a pleasure to drive. The general public who own electric vehicles will not be able to provide any service intervals. As I’ve stated before, it’s all about control and from what I understand and interpret, most people don’t see this which is a problem. You’ve heard it from me here.
@@owenboyd5674 go for it 👍
I agree with everything you’ve said but I can assure you that londons overpopulated roads is caused by every borough closing off many through routes thus making every car use the same main roads.
As you said, it’s all done to stop using cars (by causing traffic.)
I hate our restrictive “new world.”
The Out of Spec channel recently did a charging test in China of an SUV with the same Golden Brick battery that is in the Zeekr 007 - it actually charged faster than was claimed and with no thermal problems or charger cooling issues. Who needs a monster ssized and very heavy battery if you can ultra rapid charge a 75kWh pack from 10-80% in 10 minutes?
👍
Massive thanks for the shout out buddy! Super appreciated! 👊😎
Most welcome mate 👍
I agree government should switch emphasis to the second-hand market and help with home charging. Second-hand often means poorer people though and governments from both sides have shown they would rather help the wealthy and/or company car drivers into new vehicles.
A strong second-hand and parts market would give the EV industry a massive boost.
Very much so 👍
Great car news video, thanks Jim.
Glad you enjoyed it
Ithink your thoughts on kerbside charging are spot on it wouldn't incentivise me if i did not have off street parking to buy a EV
👍👍
Congrats on 60,000 subscribers well deserved 👏
Thank you so much Dave 😀
great presentation as usual, thanks.
Thanks very much 🙏
Exactly 50p for a slow charge is no incentive for anyone. What a waste of time.
👍
Thanks for the update mate, top content as usual! 👏👍
Thanks Jamie, have a good weekend pal 👍
Hi Jim, thanks for the update of car news. I agree with you about encouraging home charging, although there are some car owners who do not have drive ways (not sure why as I would not buy a house where I could not park my car, but then I live in a relatively rural area). Like many TH-cam creators, you get some unusual and ill thought out comments. By the way, you are ‘popular’ with us! Carry on the good work.
Thanks Hazel
Cheers Jim. Always a good watch Sunday morning with a coffee 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Sorry about these idiots emailing you! Great content keep it up!
Thanks mate
👍👍👍. Thanks Jim
No worries 😉
Cheers Jim, always enjoy your updates. Had a MR2 mk1 back in the day, going through the back catalogue could be the way to go….
Right on
The problem with the Connected Kerb pavement charging posts in my local city is that they not only want the fees you gave but they also require you to pay parking fees per hour - it’s much less costly to go to the local park and ride car parks and charge on the ChargeplaceScotland 7kW units with no car parking fees only a bit of inconvenience not having your car parked on the same street as your house, but it’s less than half the price for double the charge speed or you could charge at the slightly more expensive 50kW chargers in the same park and ride car parks. I hardly see any EV’s or PHEVs charging on the pavement post chargers, most of them are used by ICE cars for the convenience of parking close to the city centre as the parking cost per hour is the same whether or not you want to charge your car (and the fees are 24/7 applied whereas as the park and ride car park is free after 6pm until 8am when it becomes a flat rate £2 between 8am and 6pm)
That’s a total joke
Brought a new C-HR using your video as one of my reference resources, cheers.
BTW the GR version of C-HR is almost twice the price in the UK as it is here in NZ. The toyota pricing structure here is one of the reasons that the earliest date I could order a toyota cross here is dec 2026. All cross's being sold to malaysia where they love the cheaper trim models.
We dont quite get the range of choices across models here like the UK. Its usally just base mid and high spec models, with only 1 choice for 4wd hybrids. No Yaris new 4wd for instance.
👍
Of course no one knows what will happen in the future but as more EV cars are the norm overnight electricity charging may not be as cheap as now due to less surplus electricity overnight
My only issue with on street charging is, if you charge up over night you may find your cable has been cut when you get up.
I guess so, although anyone cutting a live cable with current going through it may be in for a shock
The government should get people into EVs by making sure people can charge from home.
Cheaper loans won’t help the big EV depreciation, a healthy used EV market will!
That’s what I said I think
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOVERNMENT…
What's the cheapest home EV charger to fix?
The government should incentivize it.
Coats around 1.5k now to buy and fix
My Ohme is £900 I think
Your advice is so important
Thanks Glen
I agree the loans idea isn’t great , as you said better to invest in reliable , easy to use and reasonably priced charging solutions.
👍
Funny how the best car sales of 2024 world wide was Toyota with 10.5 m sales and only 1% of those were full EVs.
A lot less competition for them now I guess. They’ve got a lot of catching up to do however.
The cheap home charging rate needs to be applied to any kerb side push to make it work
👍👍👍
Anyone know what’s happening to the Toyota Rav4 here in the UK? You can only buy the PHEV version at the moment, and I heard rumours that I don’t believe, that it will only be the plug in version for sale. If so, they have a gap for an SUV of that size that is more affordable. We don’t have the Corolla Cross, although Ireland does, and the plug in version of the Rav4 is too expensive.
I’m pretty sure it’ll only be the PHEV now
Connected Kerb put in 6 chargers in our local car park in November. Max 6kw and you have to pay parking fees too. Ive seen one car charging once in the hundreds of times I passed by. Great idea but horrible implementation.
Hideous!
Trouble is some people like me will now sit on fence waiting see what the government will offer which in turn will stall sales. They be best only mentioning when actually happening. Also free home installation on chargers be good too offer.
👍
Not interested in Tesla for various reasons 🤡... But that MR2 is looking awesome!! 👍
BTW - Great videos 🤓
Fair enough!
If the MR2 looks like that it will be awesome car
I know! 😍
I wonder if genesis will make plug in hybrids as changes this year will stop them being an option for company car drivers.
I’m guessing they probably still will
Great 👍👍
👍
Parking your car “overnight” next to a curb side charger ties up the charger for approximately 12 hours and my EV only needs 5/6 hours to fill my battery at home, which means they’ll be idle for 6/7 hours. So, not exactly efficient, as I’m unlikely to get up at 03:00/ 04:00 then try to find a parking space to free up a charger.
Lamp-post chargers are usually 3kw
@ my overall point still stands.
I’m not sure what your point is to be fair. A 3kw charger would take 10 hours to charge even a small battery so no need to leave the house at 3am???
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru I remember reading a post a few years ago when some charging was free.
A lady was proudly saying she parked overnight on the charger and the car was ready to go first thing.
Even then it was obvious to me that she was completely blocking the charger for anything up to 12 hrs and also possibly stopping other ev shoppers or neighbours.
The point is irrespective of the charging speed it could be seen as irresponsible where chargers are few. Maybe a time limit/ overstay fee might discourage this but at least you could get a few miles range until you get to a fast charger?
Obviously in the coming years battery charging times will really start to approach fuel pump times and there will be no need and chargers will be similar to petrol stations. 15 mins or less would be the ideal target.
sadly jim, musk will overshadow trhe car, Yesterday Denmark issued their Jan numbers, Model Y only the 6th best selling car and model 3 not even in top 10, Tesla over all sales down by more than 50%. even worse in Spain no tesla in the top 30 makes sold in Jan ... thats amazing to think just 6 months agoi. Our Jan numbers out this week to compare.
I don’t think he’ll be there for long to be honest.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruI canlt see that because of course Tesla is vastly over priced and his whole main bulk of his wealth comes from that over valuation. Where as SpaceX shares said to be worth 40BN tesla is 5 times as much and guess Saudis or someone will buy it ? but who else and now ? The numbers are looking desperate, Canada are their 6th biggest selling country, well thats gone !
I don’t really care enough to give it serious thought but he’s got a fairly big conflict of interest at the moment with “drill baby drill” and seems more interested in everything else rather than Tesla which is about to face way more competition. He didn’t start the business and as a 20% shareholder there will be a sizeable number of the 80% that will not like what his new hobby could do to their stock values. If I were him I’d be looking at riding off into the sunset right now.
Luv it.
👍
Congratulations on reaching 60k subscribers 🎉
I hope the majority of people here do realise there is a strategy; once more people move to charging their vehicles, the rates WILL go UP and in the end it won’t be any cheaper than running with fossil fuels. There are so many questions and what the government and media drive is not always correct. If people go and do their own independent research, being careful not to use documents which have been supported or funded by our governments, people will learn that this fossil fuels narrative is impossible to remove from our society.
Thanks mate. Yeah it’ll obviously cost a cart load at some point.
Have a PHEV on order, checked electric rates with Octopus and my vehicles overnight cheap charging rate would be 8.5p per kWh, BUT my daily electric rate increases by 3p kWh Octopus don’t tell you that). Have done the maths in relation to my annual electric usage and switching to Octopus Go does not save me any money! So will charge my PHEV during the day. What is going on with these Electric supply companies?
Go for it
Check out Tomato energy 👍
@@CliffReece many thx Cliff
Jim, I suspect you won't be getting the 7p night charging whence elephant's up and running. I think this government will be looking to fill that big shortfall and the loss of petrol duty
Probably not, but for now I shall bask in the sun whilst it shines
Set aside the cost of using these new charge points is £65 million going to be sufficient. Taking into consideration the way in which successive governments waste money on public infrastructure that probably only represents at best 65000 extra charge points, and it will take years before they become operational. Hardly an incentive.
And they’ll cost a fortune to use…
And the fuel tax is not yet included. Wait 2-3 years and you'll see.
I’m sure we will
Road Tolls will eventually replace fuel tax. This will mean that even those who are able to charge at home for free, or at much reduced cost, will still pay their share to use the roads... There already is tax on electricity used to charge an EV, with 20% VAT on public charging, and 5% VAT on domestic electricity.
Genesis hybrids should be good as the parent company has been making hybrids for years
👍
The reason EVs depreciate so much is because they are grossly overpriced in the first place
👌
Well done on 60k
Thank you!

Good evening.
Not only do I agree with your "politics" comments, but I wish others could hear that "rant" and take note for their own channels!!
A question for you though - can you see when someone "likes" the video with a thumbs up? It would be really interesting to see how many people did as I did and clicked when you expressed your frustration!! 😂
I can’t, the video has more thumbs down than usual actually, but more thumbs up too! 😂
People are strange.
I suppose "expressing your view" even when it's as even-handed as these, is polarising 🤷♂️
Don't let the buggers get you down - most of us approve!!
Keep up the quality content 👍🏻
Cheers Bob
It is realy the only neg in non home chargers is the cost of charging outside the home, I know they need a profit, but come on you telling me they haven’t negotiated a rate per kw below what we pay at home for charging. Pure profiteering if you ask me and ofgem should cap the prices so more will take up evs, same for sales prices, now tax levels are being introduced car cost are dropping.
👍
All these pavement chargers ought to be at low level so as to avoid cars and vans etc knocking them over . Too many of them will be damaged rendering them useless until repaired.
👍👍
🎉wehaaaayy 1st and 2nd 😂😂😂
Winner!!!

Sorry Jim I'm not interested in Electric cars
That’s fine mate, that’s why I put the warning at the begging of the episode. It stops people accusing me of picking and choosing the news, car news these days is a good 80% EV.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruYou shouldn't feel the need to give a warning about what's in the news Jim. Keep up the news roundups, saves trawling.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru why don't you like Bill Gates?
One of Epstein’s regular visitors
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Ah, I see. BTW very good of you to recommend the other TH-cam channel.
Why don't you like Bill Gates, do you know him?
Not keen on nonces from Epstein’s island personally - although he's quite charitable
The new car market isn't good for environment regardless of if it is EV or not. Plus the heavier road tax coming or in effect in UK, makes owning an EV more expensive than a petrol/diesel as you have to factor in costs of options such as installing home charging stations, and cost per mile. No advantage to owning an EV for the low to average income family.
I save more than £190 per year (annual tax on EV) every six weeks in fuel costs…and I earn bugger all (therefore I have an EV because of the cost saving)
Not so. Run the numbers. Include everything.
@@likelikelikelikelikelike3971. Who, me?
@dazker - rubbish, lease an EV, get on the right tariff and you can travel for 1p per mile if you're frugal enough.... Can't do that in an ice or diesel car
EVs depreciate quickly because in many cases the new price is too high. I'm not sure anyone actually pays the high list prices so the actual depreciation isn't as high as it appears. Charging for people without driveways is still a barrier for many so sorting that would make a lot of difference as you say. I think if you can charge at home an EV is a no brainer financially.
👍
Love your stance on the politics BS! for them it should be - you do you and I will do me thanks 😎👍
👍👍👍👍👍
Free world. Musk is political so you have to face the backlash. Tough shit
I think he’s a prick - why do I have to have people call me a Nazi??
@DefinitelyNotAGuru Yeah that's out of order. My point made with unnecessary anger was that Tesla sales enrich him so many like me would preferred you didn't mention them, but if you do then people will get triggered as he is a Nazi
