0:29 A code assigns a summative 0:40 Looking for relationships/patterns 1:06 How to code a paragraph 1:26 Code to answer research question 1:30 Frequency Coding = how often, Sequence coding (good 4 looking at causation) = order of/ before/after 2:01 Exploratory coding when you dont know what you're looking at 2:36 If you know what you're looking for then you can create your codes before data collection, and markup according to the code 2:56 Coding that is inductive; iteratively building theory a.k.a Grounded Theory 3:03 Coding that is deductive, know whats important, pulling out info
I am very new to coding, my job doesn't require it but it could become useful one day, but I think I already do it all the time.

Self Notes - Code explores, what are the relationships and similarities between phenomenon?
We refer to our research questions through codes.
We code for sequencing, it helps us think about causation.
Some ways are inductive, others are deductive. If you know what to focus on, you already know what to do!

"Building your theory from the ground up" - finally someone explained grounded theory so I could understand.

If grounded theory is inductive, what would you call the type of theory that is deductive? That is you know what you are looking for, you are just looking for an answer to the specifics?

Just submitted my first coding project and wish I watched your video before I did it because you made so much sense! (And I probably did it wrong but just emailed my professor- hope I won't get too many points deducted).

I'm guessing you were under the assumption that this video was supposed to be about computer coding 😅
This video demonstrates the type of "coding" used by conversation analysts and socio-linguistic researchers - it's a totally different thing.
You might want to search up TH-cam tutorials on specifically Computer Coding, or maybe look up videos on a specific computer coding languages (HTML, C++, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
      Hope this helps you!
