I got LOTS of old phones that I can't figure out how to use so, do more of this video for other models too. Like is there an "easy" way to figure out how to use it etc etc
Thank you for the guide. I am having trouble with getting the examples to display. I triple checked my wiring, followed the step by step guide on github, and am able to run the maze example with high backlight. However, the only thing that displays is a large black square that flashes every few seconds. The backlight does turn on.
Gary the python package you mentioned LUMA didn't work with Pi for pcd8544...it throws warning "SPI channel resource already in use.." and nothing happens, I checked my wiring and everything was correct..but didn't work...also /dev shows spidev0.0 and spider0.1 correctly, so SPI controller BCM2837 platform driver is enabled correctly..so, I wrote my program and used BIT BANGING logic and it worked..I am able to display bitmaps & text...I think, user space application using luma will run into issues if SPI controller driver is used in some module in the kernel space side, so better to not use in the user space side applications, it would run into issues.. Better go for writing a device driver module for pcd8544 using SPI controller platform side driver with a proper device tree overlay which would be initialized & running in kernel space !!
