Obviously at this time doctors knew that the virus only transmits through genital fluids, blood and breastmilk, and that you could litterally spit in an open wound with no chance of infecting anyone. People were just too busy being scared.
What about females that have sex with other females? If there's any mutual contact of the secretions or blood (like a cut) wouldn't it then be possible?
