@brasileiros Silva argue it to the historians. Who am I ?? Just someone. Who are the historians??? PPL who will change the history books. You got a big assignment so put your best foot forward. Let the chips fall where they will.
wright or santos-dumont fans... we fly now . they both independently made heaver than air flying machines. who beat who in efficiency and design inspiration for better aircrafts. up to you to decide....
The idea was started in 1878 when their father (Milton) brought home a toy helicopter he got at a fair. It had a propeller wound up by a rubber band with wings on it. That was the idea to put power behind the craft.
@brasileiros Silva the original didnt crash, a few did though. Santos was ahead of his time, and the first to use wheels on them. I'm from Dayton so of course i'll be bias, and so shall you you're from brazil but either way both made the future of aviation in such a short period
They used a catapult, therefore it cannot be the first takeoff of an aircraft using its own power. It's like pretending that throwing a stone means flight... The first actual flight happened later, in 1906 in France, when a Romanian named Traian Vuia built the aircraft and took off for the very first time, using only the power of the engine.
Sorry that you are so misinformed but the Wright flyer took off with a catapult because of the sand and mud at the beach in North Carolina, where they started experimenting. Later, the Wright flyer was able to take off from a hard surface on it’s own power elsewhere.
@@tomruotolo9607They went to Kitty Hawk especially for its regular breezes (usefull for headwind takeoff, just as in a kite case) and soft sandy landing surface (in case of brutal landings). So they used the catapult not because of the sandy surface (which THEY chose), but for the extra power needed at takeoff. The techniques used by the Wright brothers (a launch rail, skids instead of wheels, a headwind at takeoff and a catapult) disqualify them as first to make successful airplane self propelled flights... Instead, they were prety good at building kites :)
You’re right about the reliable headwinds at the beach, they didn’t want to be waiting around for the wind to perk up as that would delay their research. But you’re wrong about your conclusion of being disqualified. After they documented the forces of flight (pitch, yaw and roll) at the beach using the catapult (necessary because wheels don’t work on sand and mud), they moved their operation back to Ohio and perfected flight even more taking off from a hard surface with landing gear. This was all documented in the hand written letters to their sister from 1899-1903 (over 49000 of them) catalogued in libraries around the world and online. Santos Dumont is automatically disqualified as his machine took off but never left ground effect ( an aerodynamic term). Sorry that your history books, statues, plaques, and rumors in Brazil are all wrong about the first flight, but unfortunately, the Americans were first again.
@@tomruotolo9607 First of all, i'm not Brasilian and i never said Dumont was the first, read again what i wrote at the begining. Second of all, if they ever mounted wheels (i couldn't find any proofs), it was probably much later, when it didn't matter anymore, because others (like Traian Vuia) did it. Once again, the Wright bros didn't use the catapult because of the landing gear and the sandy soil (lmfao), but because the engine was too weak to provide the propulsion needed to take off, yet powerfull enough to sustain a short flight. In other words, the catapult served more as a slingshot for the plane to leave the ground (i have a slingshot, does this mean my launched rock is flying?...) Unfortunately, the powerfull lobby made by USA in Hollywood movies and documentaries can't cover the truth for the rest of the world and your country is not the "belly button" of the world :)) www.researchgate.net/publication/270530376_Traian_Vuia_-_the_Romanian_inventor_who_first_flew_a_powered_airplane_in_1906

@brasileiros Silva you can argue that to the historians.
