    If you've spent any time looking for information about treating your space, chances are you've run across the term "early reflection point", "First Reflection Points" or "mirror point". These are just semi-technical terms used to describe a phenomenon common to all enclosed spaces no matter what size: that the direct sound from the loudspeakers will arrive at the listener's ears before the reflected sound does. It reflects not just off of the walls to the left and right, but off the floor, the ceiling and everything in-between.

    Thank you. We also have a article talking about early reflections that get a bit more technical.

    Great video! It was very informative and was created in a way that is interesting and not boring. Thank you for sharing.

    Yes you where ever you can see the monitor in the mirror is where the reflection point is. Let me know how it works out for you.

    Isnt a bass trap more effective being mounted 4 inches of the wall (if its a 4 inch bass trap)?

    Hi Glenn what about the center channel in a home theater should I use an absorption material also for the first reflection point? Tnx

    I genuinely don’t understand the mirror trick. I do this and I feel like I can see the speaker the entire time. At no point do I not see the speaker in the mirror. Someone please help me out here.

    i would liek to hear a difference of placing the defusers behind the monitors , both PC and studio monitors , li will do the test if there is none on YT

    What if you have an asymmetrical room? The best I can describe my room is like the room in this video but the left wall is about 31 feet away.

  • @markparris228
    @markparris228 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great practical video. Is there an ideal listening postion within the room (distance fromm front wall - mix editing position) and (distance from rear wall for vistors listening postion).

    • @GIKAcousticsLLC
      @GIKAcousticsLLC  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every room is going to be different so you would need to test the room to find the best over-all location. I will say if the room is small you might want to start with the monitors close to the wall.

    thing is , when im behind my monitors there is nothing there , what reflection ? Only when on high levels i can hear mids and highs behind my setup , but under normal conditions , there is nothing behind the line of my monitors that are positioned the same as on the video, why use bass traps and defusers , i cant here that bass here and there are no mids and highs behind ?

    im having trouble understanding the mirror trick.
    I've been told this trick a few times and never understood it.
    so i sit in my mixing position in front of the computer - and i have a friend drag a mirror monitor heighth along the left and right wall.
    would i see the monitors from all angles of the wall?

    Just wondering what animation software are you using?

  • @77936fief

    would this happen if you completely soundprrof the walls? if it's a perfect square room and it's soundproofed would you still have the echo?

    • @GIKAcousticsLLC
      @GIKAcousticsLLC  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sound proofing is when you stop the sound from going through the walls so yes you still would have "echo". In fact, in a lot of cases when a room is soundproofed it has more reflections for a longer time (longer echos).

    • @77936fief
      @77936fief 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      so does it make more sense just to get acoustic padding for a room then?i don't want to make a studio out of the room, i want to make a music room where i can get the most out of the sound...

    • @GIKAcousticsLLC
      @GIKAcousticsLLC  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ernst de waal Yes would would want absorption and diffusion on the walls. If the room is small then go with mostly absorption. If you go to gikacoustics.com you can view a bunch of other videos that talk about room acoustics. Look under the education area.

    I can't see both speakers on one wall. I can only see the left speaker on the right wall and the right speaker on the left wall. This video says that we can see both speakers on one wall if I got it right...

    • @ersk83
      @ersk83 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start in the corner left corner behind the speaker and move it away from the front Wall. When you can see the element of the left speaker thats the first reflection point from your left speaker. Keep movin it until you see the element of your right speaker, thats the second reflection point of your right speaker. Then do the same procedure on your right Wall. If your speakers are close to the side walls the first reflection point is very close to the speaker.

    Sound is not a laser beam to reflect off one spot. I guess it disperses, spreads, dissipates in a spheric shape starting from the source.

    Sure spacing the panel from the wall is always a good thing, if you have the space for it. Our panels though have a built in air gap so you can mount them flat to the wall.
