doing most of the damage to shriek during the chase sequence is hilarious also when i beat this game like 30 minutes ago and went to see what the world records looked like i was not expecting to find the dude i used to get smash 4 fox tech from in high school neat run!
yeah i love that trick! and haha wow, that's awesome that that connection exists. it's been years and years now since i did Smash content, but it always makes me smile when people come along who used to watch it haha. thanks!
I just finished the game recently and commented to my sister that I bet speedrunners would be able to wiggle up to Weeping Ridge early. She was convinced it was impossible because of the Shriek aggression, since she brute forced her way up there early and was killed anyways...but she also wasn't doing insane launches and sequence-breaks 😂 Nice work! Can't imagine how much practice it took to become this precise with the game.
We shall always remember the night When a shiny maniac fell from the sky Beat a local bird whom can summon a meteor storm And saved the neighborhood by turning into a tree In like 30 minutes
As someone who also speed runs the game and has learned many of these tricks, I have to say, this is by far the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Like man. I wanna do this one day. I know how to do most of the tricks, but some of them are pretty hard for me like the torch skips in the beginning of the run. Yes I do run the same category. My time is 49 minutes, 27 seconds, 0.03 milliseconds. Not as fast as this obviously. My time also isn’t in the official speed running site. I wish I could put it there Ngl. Also interesting how I always do sentry jumps despite not needing to do them after getting launch. How funny.
thank you so much for the kind words! are you unable to record footage or something? any run is allowed on speedrun.com as long as there's verifiable footage. and yeah I find I do that a lot in other categories where we get Launch early, I end up not using it enough haha
In the part where you are supposed to reroute the missile through the portals to destroy the wall in the final area, i remember wondering if a really skilled player could manipulate the one you pass on the way. Yes is the answer, apparently.
So clean ! Although I think this game is to precious to speedrun. I couldnt do it. It was so Calming when I played it I wanna remember it like that. But I enjoyed your video
i've heard that kinda thing a lot haha, and speedrunning does definitely affect it. that said, the ending still makes me emotional no matter how many times i see it
Absolutely mesmerizing movement! Just the type of execution you want/expect to see in a WORLD RECORD run. These uhm.. Let's call them micro corrections that you do in the air to reach walls faster for more efficient and insanely fast traversal. Would you mind giving an explanation of them ? For example your chain of movements in Willows End. Also that shortcut at 5:05 is so clever!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed =] I don't really have an explanation for the optimisations in Willow's End? Basically every time I Launch, I try to move in such a way where I can refresh Launch as soon as possible, by either Dashing into a wall, Slashing an enemy/object, or brushing against certain ceilings. In general, Dash/Launch are MUCH faster than Ori's normal speed, so most movement optimisations are spent making sure we're in that state for as much time as possible. Falling and drifting through the air are both slow, so you want to angle Ori to be near some kind of surface as much as possible so you can refresh your Dash/Launch. Bash is also a good way to do it, but using Bash takes 0.5 seconds minimum to do the aiming part, so generally you want to avoid it if there's another option (which in Willow's End there is, because you can Slash those enemies instead). Hopefully that explains a bit. And yeah that shortcut there is called Door Skip, it's a cool one and really useful cuz it means you get to keep a keystone until much later on. You'll notice that we only pick up three keystones in Silent Woods (in the part where you're meant to be Ku), and that's because picking up the fourth one takes ages and also triggers a cutscene. By keeping this one from Howl's Den, we can skip that keystone, as well as skipping going up the left side/getting the other keystone in Howl's Den. The trick looks like a neat little thing, but it actually saves over a minute throughout the run
Yeah a lot of people definitely feel that way, even within the community. If you're interested, the category All Cell Fragments was created as a response to this and has a rule for No Quit To Menu Abuse, and there are also dedicated players of most categories who prioritise RTA strats
@@blurry9744 it's basically like, most people don't like QtM abuse, but at this point it's too far into the game's life to just ban it. that category was invented two years after release, so at that point we decided to ban it officially and glad you enjoyed! it's a great speedgame =]
... What the hell did i just watched ? The skipped cutscenes... The big jumps in vertical speed... The shard purchasing menu supersposed to gameplay... The royal screwing with the cutscenes triggers... The dying that doesn't death (and vice-versa)... And that big ass jump with the auto-aimball... ... whaaaaa... ?
I can’t believe you didn’t even need to clip into willow’s end. The game I guess just assumes that you have all 5 wisps if you’re able to get to the entrance
So while you're meant to lower the water there to access the lower part, the save trigger is actually always loaded in. So the idea is that we blindly swim down to the save trigger, then after dying we reload and continue on through the rest of the water. Hope that helps clear it up, if you have any other questions please lemme know =]
@@TeslaSkarfelt OH! Thanks for responding. Now that you mention the other questions bit, how were you able to get into Willow's End without Seir? Is it really as simple as walking up to the blocked door and the game assumes you already have them?
@@arktya Yup, it is just that simple. Normally Feeding Grounds is blocked off by Sheik until you get Seir, but by doing the skip, that part never triggers and you can just waltz into Willow's End haha
Hornbug only spawns if you touch the ground. By dashing into a wall and using Regenerate + the other direction, you can do a "Wavedash" where you keep all the initial speed of the Dash and fly in the opposite direction
That's a wavedash - you dash into a wall, then hold the other direction with Regenerate. For some reason, it stores the Dash speed and makes you just rocket away. I have a guide on some of this game's movement techniques here: th-cam.com/video/NEsgenvbr88/w-d-xo.html
After the lever, I Dashed off the little kwolok eye thing. Because I Dashed from the ground, I still have my air Dash available, if that makes sense. If you slide down a wall then Dash, you can also Dash twice like that. Hope that helps =]
Hi! It's a weird ruling, but because the Sentry shots themselves go out of bounds, it counts as out of bounds and breaks the rules of the category. It's mostly a knock on effect from banning another piece of tech that lets you shoot arrows through walls, and it was kinda decided that just weapons breaking things from the wrong side was going to be banned outright for No Out of Bounds categories. Hope that helps =]
That's a wavedash, dash into the wall (grounded) then hold the other direction + Regenerate and Ori will rocket off with all of the initial dash momentum
Kind of! I love Smash 4 and play it with friends when they come over, but that's it. Online isn't great and there's no real motivation to grind with no tournaments. If it was still competitive I'd definitely still be playing it, though. Just an amazing game
