Good morning, I too prefer to freeze my beans. I do Blanche, yes it is a texture thing lol. I also spread my beans out on a tray and flash freeze for a half hour or so before bagging up as I find they dont clump together which makes it easier for me to take small amounts when I want. Loving watching your videos. It's lovely to be able to watch more Australian homesteaders. Looking forward to more and wishing you and your family all the best 💕
Thank you for your lovely comment and also sharing your method. 💖 This will be very helpful to those looking to use the blanching approach. Do you find it opens up use of the beans for other things?
I do. The best thing is that After a long day at work, I can gab a small amount of different veggies and pop in microwave for 3 min while cooking up some meat, chicken etc. Dinner on the table in 15 minutes. 🤣
I'm a few weeks off retiring. I have a very small garden but I'm determined to use my time profitably in that garden. Your bean harvest is inspiring. I'm just about to bring down a bunch of bananas. Wish I could share with you. Have a good long weekend. 🇦🇺
Ooohhhh goodness.... a trade of bananas for beans would be wonderful 💛💚 A great thing about bean growing is that they are great in small spaces, as can be grown vertically. Happy retirement 😀
I still have bags in the freezer from last year!! But they’ve been a bit neglected because they’re a bit beyond their prime. Stews are a great idea though, I can’t believe I didn’t think to pop them in last winters stews!!
I must admit I cut and do Blanche as other wise my husband won’t eat them says they don’t go soft enough .i also quick freeze them first as has been said before they don’t stick together when trying to take them out. I didn’t grow beans this year as I still have heaps from last year
Sounds like you had a wonderful harvest last year to still be eating through them 😀 The blanching definitely seems to be a preference thing. It might actually be really interesting to try a side by side test one day.
Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your quick preserve method! How do you find they cook up after freezing and is there a preferred way you have of using them? (eg stews/casseroles or just as a side veg) I've tried freezing beans only once before, blanching them first and I found they were too mushy for my liking so I've never done it again. Just freezing has me intrigued! 🙂
Nearly all get used in the winter in stews and soups. During winter we cook lots of these on top of our wood fire. Grabbing a handful of the frozen beans and popping them straight in provides a lot of the greens (as we all like beans, I'm not a frozen pea fan). This is also why I like to ensure they already have the woody tops off, so we can put them straight in the pot.
GREAT thing to do!!! Nicely done!!
Thank you 😊 It is such a quick and easy way for us to put them away for when we need them.
Absolutely fantastic and I am looking forward to your stew recipes in winter. ❤❤❤
I will absolutely make sure I share how we use them in winter 😀

The use in stews is great, as they take on the stew flavour and soften anyway 😀 So glad I could help you make use of them now.
@ Yes, great thinking!! Thank you!!
Winter stews will be here before we know it!! (Not that we’ll be thinking about that tomorrow in 39°!!)
@rosecottage4476 us neither in the heat!!! Hope you manage to stay cool.

Those silicone bags look great. Where are they from?
Those ones are from Woolworths. Keep an eye out for sales, as they are often in their 1/2 price sales.
I'll give it a go, thought I had to blanch them 1st.
We never have bothered blanching here. They are good eating in the Winter 😀
... and for my eldest good summer eating too 😁😁😁
