Thank you so much for having Muggsy on the pod. This is awesome. Please please find Mr Earl Boykins and have him on the pod. Super interested to hear his Journey to the league because I know he was giving out major buckets.
I'm from Baltimore, grew up watching Dunbar. Everyone has to understand that Muggsy had to slow down his game for the college and NBA players. They moved too slow for him. In high school he had thoroughbreds filling the lanes on the fast break! At Wake Forest and at Charlotte, he would start pushing the ball on the break and he would have to wait for his teammates to catch up! Those Dunbar High School teams back then set the standard for quality basketball. If y'all get a chance check out a documentary called Poets Pride, it goes over the history of Dunbar High School basketball.
Making the NBA at 5’3 is inspiring for all the small guards coming up. I’m sure there will be another one that’ll play in the NBA, they’ll have to be quick asf, strong and an elite shooter. Muggsy really a legend for playing so long at his size 🙌🏽
Mr Howard was my coach for years. Muggsy is definitely a Bmore legend that’s a ppl person. Growing up I’d run into Muggsy up Madison shooting around. Great Man right there, shout out to Muggs and his family. Rip Dre Bogues Rip Yae Yae Bogues
Man, I still remember Muggsy Bogues was a fan favorite when he was playing for the Toronto Raptors back then. He played full-court defense on the opposing guards. He was quick, energetic, ran the offense of the team well, and he had the mid range jumper. Also, Muggsy brought great leadership to the younger players. It was great watching him play. Every time Muggsy checked into the game, we Raptors fans would cheer like crazy. The same thing would happen whether on offense or defense, we all cheered for him. Those were some great memories. Thanks, Muggsy Bogues. 👍
Shout out to Mr Howard. I played with his son in High School. He was great as well. Unfortunately, the brother passed away (Leukemia) My pops played for Dunbar High, and he would take me to see many Dunbar games as a youth and middle schoolers (Junior High back then ) The 81-83 Dunbar boys were legendary. Reggie “Russ” Williams and Wingate would become my favorite players, and guys who I modeled my game after. When I was in High School, had an opportunity to play against Sam Cassell, another Dunbar alum, and future pro. The most underrated Basketball city in the world ~ a Baldamore, Maryland.
The most underrated basketball city in the world. I was just mentioning to my homies. We (Baldamore) definitely had the best short ballers ever. Mugsy, Nut, Aquille, and a few others who were all supremely talented and short. Ling history of great players. The city still putting players in the league, and play for pay leagues. and I’m a Super OG, I grew up hearing the name “Skip Wise” … as a myth a legend, My pops played for Dunbar. As a youth and pre teen he’d often take me to see Dunbar games … first great I remember was Ernie Graham… those legendary teams 81-83 at Dunbar were the absolute best! I modeled my game after Reggie “Russ” Williams. Because we had similar body types, he and David Wingate. Man. I could text for a long while if I would list half the great hoopers from our city, many known and unknown. I’ve been saying it for decades… when it comes to hooping Baltimore is the pound for pound champ. Small city, but we’ve had and have a great hoops history!
Indeed. The whole high school is legendary. Aside from that great team. That afghans produced a great number of D-1 players and of course the Boys of Dunbar ~ it’s a book and an ESPN 30 for 30… I played in that gym 4 times in my HS career… it was like walking into Duke Cameron indoor Stadium… the school had City, State, and National Championship banners stretching back to the 50’s !!! My pops was a Dunbar Alumni, as a youth and a pre teen, he took me to many Dunbar games, I got to watch those teams Mugsy was on… the memories still are there. Great times… I even modeled my game after one of those guys. Reggie Williams… I did play against one of their distinguished alumni (Sam Cassell) a few years later, and their legendary coach Bob Wade.
First off thanks QRich and DMiles for getting Muggsy on the show. I have said this and will continue to say it: THERE WILL BE ANOTHER MJ BEFORE THERE WILL BE ANOTHER MUGGSY BOGUES. Despite his height I have NEVER seen Muggsy taken advantage of on the court. Almost everyone he had to guard was at least 10 inches taller. Next time you see a person, most likely a child, who is 5'3" just wonder how Muggsy was able to survive during one of the most competitive eras of the NBA. He is truly amazing and deserves a place in the HOF.

They need to come out with a sports movie about urban basketball in the city of Baltimore. Name it "Tyrone" for muggsy's real name. They definitely need his story in a motion picture.

Excellent interview. Being from NC, I saw Muggsy Bogues play in the ACC in real time. One player that they mentioned that I was a fan of was Michael Adams (Boston College). Dude was extremely fast & was the "Original Nutmeg" player. He was doing that well before Ice Trae was born, but props to them both. Keep going, Knuckleheads...
