Thank you for uploading this. ABC showed this only once back in February 1998. I was studying for an exam and set my VCR (yes VCR not DVR lol) to record it. Unfortunately, for some reason or the other, it cut just when the hijackers set the train in motion after they were escaping (1:15:00). I never got to see the rest of the movie after that - up till now - almost 26 years later.
This remake, although not nearly as good as the original, is much more faithful to the novel in terms of rigging the train for the getaway. In the novel, the front cab window had to be broken out in order to fit the various lengths of pipe together. The MTA didn't like the idea of busting out a window on a revenue-active car, so they put the kebosh on that. The cars seen here were about to be scrapped, so the TTC didn't care what happened to them.
I put this on expecting Denzel Washington & John Travolta (lol) - this was a cracking version - better than the one I anticipated. Thank you for posting it. I understand there's a version with Walter Matthau & Robert Shaw - I gotta see that one!
at 53:51 the mic the chief or who ever is useing is not connecting to anything and the other end flips up as he still talks into the mic and the boys or kids clothes seem to change from scene to scene
Better known as The Taking of Bloor-Danforth 1-2-3. Much of the dialog closely matches that of the original. Hector Elizondo was much more convincing as Mr. Gray. I liked Walter Matthau's line, "Somebody down there knows how to drive a train. You don't pick that up watching Sesame Street."
There are actually 3 versions. The original has the guy Quinn from Jaws that gets eaten at the end. then this one then the one with denzel and travolta. this one is my favorite tho.
This was very good! If you need gratuitous violence and foul language then this may not be your cup of tea. The acting is good, the New York vibe is good and the action is on going. Before seeing this version, I have only seen the Walter Matthau/ Robert Shaw version on television in the 80’s. In my opinion, this version is comparable.
The original is best ' the 3rd is ok but this one (the 2nd) sux "yeah i just watched it again after 25 years and i remember it just the same " it SUX!!
In the original Mr Blue was English that's why at the end he asked if they still execute in the States. As this Mr Blue was American the line didn't work. All in all one of the better remakes.
The problem was New York had a death penalty when this version was made, so it was not true what Lt. Garber said. it's just that they copied the dialogue from the original and at that time New York, as well as all other states did not have the death penalty as the Supreme Court struck it down in 1972.
So, 2 additional remakes. Is there any measurable improvements on the original? Depends on who you ask. Boomers say, hell no! It does'n't really matter what the "whoevers" think. Because unless they can appreciate no BS, hit you right between the eyes old school cinematography... without the sugar coating fluff; they just won't want it.
Those subway cars do not look like any IRT subway cars look like they come out of California to keep it original they should have been R62 subway or the "Redbrids" if you are going to do a movie about New York keep it original
For those that don't notice the subway cars & subway stations are actually in Toronto
Which is why as a native New Yorker I never mention it. Even the 2009 version is better by this fact alone to say nothing of the 1974 classic.
To a NY'er it is very noticeable, Too bright and too clean. And MTA train seats are not cushioned.
And a couple of the street scenes look to be Yonge St a block south of King
@@stuartbaulch950 I could tell one of the station entrances looked like it was from Queen Station
I knew they weren’t ny no graffiti and they had padded seats structure was also different. I know my city. However this was the best version.
The 1974 version was - is - a masterpiece ✨️
Was
The intro music is a banger

Now you get to experience it.
Also I'm assuming the disc or cassette or something you used to record ran out of storage.
yes I didn't realize I did not have enough storage space.@@stevemc01

Thank you so much for uploading this
I've been looking for this movie for at least 20 years. Thank you so much for uploading this
Please if anyone hasn’t seen the original, do so immediately!
No comparison 1974 bests❤
Definitely avoid the Travolta version... just another of his endless rant-fests! and Tony Scott bloody irritating "arty-farty" camera stuff.
I always loved Vincent no matter what he did....he's a NYC boy like me and that all it matters ❤❤❤❤
I didn't realize Vicent D'Onofrio appeared on: "Law&Order: Criminal Intent" show also....

Its on youtube
That is the 1st one, 1978 and the best one
3 versions of this movie and all of them are good in their own form
I have been trying to find this movie for years, thank you so very much for uploading it!
The final scene was not the same without Walter Matthau looking around the door as he sneezed.
Out of the three versions that this movie was made, this version (the first and made for TV) has always been my favorite.
Nobody is supposed to talk.
Nobodys talkin‘.
Got me good.
Many thanks i have been looking for this for years ( now if i can find al bundy in the popeye doyle sequel my list will be complete )
I finally found the TTC Subway version
Very good movie 👍🏽
at 53:51 the mic the chief or who ever is useing is not connecting to anything and the other end flips up as he still talks into the mic and the boys or kids clothes seem to change from scene to scene
I love the taking of Pelham one two three with Edward James olmos

Come on the one with Danzel and Travolta was pretty good 😊
Nah
Nice tight Film
Wow, I never thought I would say the newer version is actually better. Can't beat the original though
There are actually 3 versions. The original has the guy Quinn from Jaws that gets eaten at the end. then this one then the one with denzel and travolta. this one is my favorite tho.
Actually, thats what op said. He even gave his rankings.
Def better than the last remake, but no way better than the original.
The lady wearing black in the control room was later Tony Sopranos shrink .
I’ll stick with the 1974 version thank you.
Me, too.
wow this is nothing compared to the 1974 version, watch that please

a prequel from the old movie with robert saw this one is not bad but sorry i love the old movie
NEW YORK NEW YORK SOUNDS SO NICE THEY HAD TO NAME IT TWICE
Not often does a book have 3 good adaptations.
Kingpin's Early Day
This is not Taking of Pelham 123 clearly is not NYCT fleet so this is a disappointment
The people who made this never been to NY
The original is best ' the 3rd is ok but this one (the 2nd) sux "yeah i just watched it again after 25 years and i remember it just the same " it SUX!!
1:14:42 35:50
1:22:37 the 1974 version was better
Remakes are never better than the original
ngl I liked the 2009 one more than this 1998 version. The 1974 one was pretty much unbeatable though.
46:29 she lost it

Carrying the heavy cash bags in an open bikes 😂 ,isn't it very unsafe and dangerous?
This was the politically correct version. Go watch the original
So, 2 additional remakes. Is there any measurable improvements on the original? Depends on who you ask.

Ruffalo is good in this..way better than travolta
not as compelling like the version with Denzel Washington
NYPD Blue Episode LOL sorry
Why do they have to remake decent movies and parade shite
Those subway cars do not look like any IRT subway cars look like they come out of California to keep it original they should have been R62 subway or the "Redbrids" if you are going to do a movie about New York keep it original
They used the Bombardier T1 i think
@@neldevlmao they used a Hawker Siddeley H1 train for the shoot. Though I'll admit there a lot of goofs within the film too many to list here.
That's Dr Melfi and this sucks compared to the original but i do appreciate someone uploading it
