My great grandfather was a fourtyniner. He wrote letters home every week they said. His wife collected them and my grandmother had them. He worked a long time. Then they got a letter and two gold nuggets and he said he was on his way home. He never arrived. When my Grandmother came to live with us, they all thought she was dying, so they sold and threw everything away. She recovered but those letters were gone.
Ok...who is this guy?? I just heard him for the first time on Outlaw Country, a Sirius XM station, earlier today, and the voice struck me and resonated with me so I had to look him up. I usually have so much on my mind I kind of have certain music as background noise, but my ears perked up when this song came on, and it nearly moved me to tears. Not so much the lyrics, but the voice, the talent, and the calm vibe. How have I not heard of him? Just wow. More, please. Wow.
I think you're right. Recognized him from his recent lap steel playing on Barricades of Heaven (with Jackson Browne). If you've not seen it, search. Genius, as you said.
Heard this for the first time the other day and it's already one of my favorites. The guitar playing is nuts love the music. Better late than never I guess. Thanks Dave.
I just watched a doc on the Beat Farmers which Dave was in and this album immediately came to mind. I can't believe that I forgot its existence. One of my favorites from the 90s...
Yes a good tune I hadn't heard in years. But tonight on my home and listening to WRSI I heard the end of it looked up...yup people with good musical tastes are few.
This song is amazing and I'm sad that it doesn't have more views. This is one of those songs that moves me to tears and that's a short list.

The gold miner story from 'Buster Scruggs', almost like they made it from this song.
Your singing kinda reminds of bob Dylan
