      @TheChillty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@inhocsignovinces7713 Yes, the only "confirmed" case of a cannibalism was during the siege of Ma'arra.. but thats not even a documented case but rather based on a couple of eyewitness accounts. this video somehow try to portray the crusades as some unorganized, undisciplined dummies who had to eat each other and fight for water to survive, when in fact the crusades were some of the most organized and disciplined forces since the age of the Roman Empire. They marched thousands of miles together, from one continent to another, and retook Jerusalem, which was their goal. This took them nearly 4 years. And yes, even though it was a painful 4 years full of bloodshed, battles and violence, they were still highly disciplined and organized (if they werent, they wouldnt even last 5 months).

    I went to Acre, Israel/Palestine last year. The main port city of the Crusader Kingdoms and it’s funny that there are still restrooms from the 12th century still there. There are no stalls so you would just take a dump staring at another knight lol. Awkward but a different time where people didn’t care as much.

    Hi Grunge, a few days ago, a Korean movie called Parasite won 4 Oscars including best picture, and lately you make videos about movies, can you make video about this?
    Why European countries like Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Czechia, Russia tend to dub foreign movies while Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Phillipines, Singapore tend to subtitle foreign movies?

    • @cgvapors963
      @cgvapors963 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Parasite wasn't dubbed was it? Only subtitled. The decision to dub and/or subtitle is made by whatever studio is in charge of distribution. I think they feel a movie could be much more successful in European countries if it is dubbed because European audiences do not like to read subtitles.

    • @epg96
      @epg96 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cgvapors963 not really? I heard in France, Spain, Czechia dubbing was declined among younger people

    • @cgvapors963
      @cgvapors963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epg96 Yeah, that is true. Younger audiences these days are more willing to read subtitles than older audiences of the past, if the movie is good enough. That's really the key here. Is the movie a good or great movie? If it is, then dubbing will not improve it for audiences, it would potentially ruin it because dubbing is typically not done well. So a really great movie like Parasite can hold up for European audiences without the dubbing. Don't forget, the European market was always the strongest money maker for many studios until recently (Chinese market aside). So dubbing in the past was considered a way to bring in the most bang for the buck. Usually, it failed regardless because dubbing is so awkward and never done perfectly.

    • @epg96
      @epg96 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cgvapors963 dubbing is the most offensive and disrespectful movie translation method. Imagine if your favorite foreign singer comes to your country to make a special concert, but instead somebody replaces the singer's voice with his/her voice with your national language, would you like to attend and enjoy the concert?

    • @cgvapors963
      @cgvapors963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epg96 Oh I understand what you mean. I'm not sure that comparison is fair though because movies are more than just audio experiences. They're primarily visual experiences with a foundation in a story. The voices of the actors really don't make up the user's total experience or involvement of the entire thing, as it would in a musical concert.

    • @Zach-mw5so
      @Zach-mw5so 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      incorectulpolitic A lot of different reasons, from religion to trade. First off, it’s common to see “barbarian” peoples as backwards, living in backwaters. The pagans in NE Europe certainly weren’t as “civilized” as the Catholic west, but they also weren’t backwards. They had trade routes, towns, contact with the outside world. It took centuries for the Crusades to finish, and any backwards enemy couldn’t fight a more technological, wealthier, more organized force for that long. The land in the Baltic was fertile, had access to the Baltic Sea trade as well as trade with the Russian states and Byzantium/Arabs. Another obvious one is religion. It was a way of thinking at the time to convert the heathen, by force of arms if necessary. The word “Catholic” means “universal”; the idea being a “universal church” belonging to God. Of course that doesn’t sit well with pagans, Catholic heretics, Muslims, etc. Those were just a few reasons. I’d recommend a TH-cam channel “Real Crusades History”. He can explain the Crusades, Northern or otherwise, much better than I can on my phone :p
