Your camera presence has come a long way since this video. I was hanging off of your every word in your recent console retrospectives, but I found it hard to keep my attention on what you're saying in this video. That might sound harsh, but I mean it as a compliment. I cringe looking back at my oldest videos, and I keep that in mind when making new things. I wish you all the best for the future!
Oh I don't know, I'm in Wisconsin. I haven't been able to check since Friday. But there was no postal service on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. So who knows, it might have come today.
Well, I would argue that since mini-HDMI isn't the standard it is there for out of standard. I didn't say it would be impossible to replace, but it would be an extra step that would be other wise avoided if the port had been standard.
Believe me I'd love to get a better camera. But it's not really a cost effective decision. Sorry about the pops, there isn't anything I can do about it though. The camera has no secondary audio interface.
OH DAMB! I've never seen him without his neckbeard! ! I thought he was gonna say momma didn't get it for me so I bought it and then she gave it cuz she forgot to give it at Christmas
@18:25 It is a handheld console but that's no excuse for the console attachements not offering you a similar experience - apart from the improved ergonomics.
I guess I didn't make my point clear, sorry. I didn't say or mean to suggest the connection type was unique to this unit. I simply meant it is not the standard HDMI port most commonly used. As a result, acquiring a replacement cable will be more difficult, even if ever so slightly. That was my point in a nutshell.
can tell the difference in sound too in video. seen video of dock being taken apart. not much in it and the connectors hook to system are just regular ones plugged in.
I'm curious what you think of this system now that you've owned it for a while? I have always wanted a NeoGeo, but I find the games and console to be prohibitively expensive, though if I am not mistaken the cost has dropped quite a bit over the past few years. Even then, however, the games are still incredibly expensive compared to the compilations. What I'm asking, I guess, is would you recommend this if the alternative is 'not having a NeoGeo at all', or if you've since run into issues that you feel make it a poor investment? I am interested in it as a console, not a handheld, although that's a nice feature. tia
Yeah, I saw you mention that in another video but they did do that firmware update. I was just kinda hoping you could get into a little more depth? Might be a good review video. I don't doubt you, but your reasons for hating it might not be deal breakers for me. If that's too much trouble, nbd, I'll keep digging but I really respect your analysis on hardware a lot.
Nicholas Scott Thanks. Honestly I never bothered with the firmware update. As I recall, it required a payment and was tricky to install (if this has changed I'll be more interested). But, yeah, it was just a shitty clone console in a fancy case. Even SNK went after the company that produced them for making an inferior product.
I see, I hadn't realized the firmware update would cost extra but my understanding was that it will improve the graphical fidelity with the HDMI connection, though not the tearing. It might still be worth it for me, though, since I am what I like to think of as a 'value gamer' and just want the best return on fun per dollar. Really appreciate your answering my questions. You're a baws, man.
I have got to say that the "dock" is okay and a nice idea but the handheld looks gorgeous, i love handhelds, though i have no interest in the Neo-Geo (for no other reason than I never spent any time with one) i love this and i mite add it to my collection at some point, does it feel as good as it looks ?
According to one of the comments made by a UPS driver, if the bubble is popped it'd because they shook it and took poor care of it during shipping. Sadly.
Ah reminiscing about the old days. I live in Ireland and I remember reading about the NeoGeo in magazines wondering how the heck anyone can afford this console and the games. I used to play some NeoGeo games in an arcade, Samurai Showdown, Aero Fighters, Cross Sword (not sure if SNK produced them all). They were brilliant. I loved these games. One side of the arcade had Capcom games the other side had the SNK games. I played both cos I was a gaming whore (though a Nintendo and Spectrum lover at heart)
wow. on top of your game! thanks for responding quickly, its happened so many times that i actually ask questions to some youtubers but i won't get back a response until like long after i've forgotten about the question!
The $120 does not include the docking station, its just the portable. You probably already knew that, but I'm just putting that out there. Also, they will be making new games, they have to work with the old production companies to make them in the new microcartridge format.
My mom actually did the same thing a week ago. I'm a cartoon/anime collector and my mom had bought a whole bag of retro cartoons she found cheap somewhere, then she put it somewhere and forgot about it. So I got a pretty cool late christmas gift just a little while ago.
Awesome video dude!!! Can you make another video comparing the original AES to the Neo Geo X? I'd like to see how much worse the picture/sound quality is. I'm interested in possibly getting this, but t costs $200 (WAY overpriced) and I want to make sure I know all the positives and flaws.
I would like to know your opinion of this console now that you have owned it for a couple years. I always wanted a Neo Geo when I was a kid but for obvious reasons could not get one and I was very intrigued when I found out this thing existed. I found one for a decent price online and it also comes with 15 additional games plus a firmware update that supposedly corrects the issue with the HDMI video quality as well as several other bugs. Just wondering if you think this is something that is still worth picking up.
Wow, Adam, hadn't seen many of your vids for awhile, I liked your story, and I am very sorry to hear you didn't like the Neo Geo X Gold that much as a console. I'm sort of a player in both handheld and console camps, so this might be more for me. Not sure yet
It doesn't use an "out of standard" HDMI port. It uses a mini-HDMI port, adapters are readily available if you ever loose the cable, and they cost like $5. A lot of PC graphics cards actually use the same connector.
I remember asking you about this thing before it was released and you compared it to an NES on a chip lol. I guess it really is kinda like that. I wonder what the specs are? I was gonna buy it but no a single gamestop or EB has it within a 100 km radius of where I live. That mighta been a good thing lol.
me too, Nintendo is definitely on the right track with the touchscreen on the controller concept though only time will tell if it ends up being a Gimmick or an innovation.
i thought i'd already seen you unbox this lol.. have you ever come across a clone that outputs at the same quality as the original machine? it's a shame if they're all a bit sub par cos those clones are a great way of keeping classic machines relevant.
I could be fine with that if it wasn't for the fact that they constantly push those systems as the ultimate high definition package. Yet don't include the most basic thing to make that possible.
The PSP emulates Neo-Geo games better than the Neo Geo X...
It would have been so much clever to use the cartridge port as the handheld dock.
Thanks, and happy belated birthday.
Pass on it. I wouldn't have bought it if I had used it first.
Sure thing, thanks for watching.

DavidHazuki Well we all have to improve over time :P
Oh I don't know, I'm in Wisconsin. I haven't been able to check since Friday.

I'm glad I could get back to you in a timely manner.
It came with the Blu-Ray.
Which was a surprisingly good transfer.
Yes, I believe I have all of them. I did a video on the Turbo Everdrive. And you're correct, they're pure hardware. Not emulated.
Well thanks for coming back, I have a big back log for you to catch up on.
Thanks for watching.
True, if you get that to work, let me know.
I'm glad to finally have an answer to that. Thanks man.
Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
Well, I would argue that since mini-HDMI isn't the standard it is there for out of standard. I didn't say it would be impossible to replace, but it would be an extra step that would be other wise avoided if the port had been standard.
Awesome, congratulations.
No worries, comment all you want.
Me too, thanks man.
Thanks.
I'll just give you a short review.
Get the AES instead, if you can.
Yeah, I agree.
Assuming you still can find it, that would be nice.
It's not worth the current price tag.
Be patient, it should arrive. I'll check in a bit.
There are only so many ways to make a d-pad.
Definitely a good plan.
Yeah, I'd love to get one of those with a cartridge slot modded in to it.
Here's hoping man.
Believe me I'd love to get a better camera. But it's not really a cost effective decision. Sorry about the pops, there isn't anything I can do about it though. The camera has no secondary audio interface.
Thanks.
TH-cam has been doing that a lot lately, not sure why.
I'm in complete agreement.
Hi, yes all is well.
Yourself?
Yes I know, I did an unboxing video of it.
Thanks.
so its basically a Nintendo Switch?
Basically you don't know this video is 4 years old.....
Agreed.
OH DAMB! I've never seen him without his neckbeard! ! I thought he was gonna say momma didn't get it for me so I bought it and then she gave it cuz she forgot to give it at Christmas

No worries bud.
Yep.
I guess I didn't make my point clear, sorry.

Yeah, I was mistaken.
Sure thing.
Thanks man.
Thanks, yes it is. I don't really discard much.
can tell the difference in sound too in video. seen video of dock being taken apart. not much in it and the connectors hook to system are just regular ones plugged in.
9:44 Ooo boi was Adam in for a treat with the EckBone one..
It's fun when that happens.
I'm curious what you think of this system now that you've owned it for a while?

Nicholas Scott It's terrible. It's the one platform I regret buying, and I own a Tiger R-Zone.
Yeah, I saw you mention that in another video but they did do that firmware update. I was just kinda hoping you could get into a little more depth?
Might be a good review video. I don't doubt you, but your reasons for hating it might not be deal breakers for me.

The joystick for the Neo-Geo CD, Pocket, and Neo Geo X is like a miniature arcade stick.
I love that so much, hopefully it is 8-way.
You are tearing me apart LISA!!! Dude best shirt ever. Thumbs up X a million!
Chicago, bring it on.
I was, but I'm hanging on to it.
Well, backwards compatibility and clone systems are a different thing. But point taken sir.
kinda like how the switch works sort of,those pins are gonna be easy to bend and break when docking or undocking
since u ❤ this comment does that mean it's almost happened or broke those plugs?
According to one of the comments made by a UPS driver, if the bubble is popped it'd because they shook it and took poor care of it during shipping. Sadly.
Do you regret it as much as I do?
Ah reminiscing about the old days. I live in Ireland and I remember reading about the NeoGeo in magazines wondering how the heck anyone can afford this console and the games. Yes, it's good that it's USB compliant. At least that makes the controller worth something.
Yeah, he's pretty much right.
The AES is neat, but totally impractical to collect for unless you're loaded or don't collect for anything else...at all...
There are people who look so much better with facial hair, and you're definitely one of them.
wow. on top of your game! thanks for responding quickly, its happened so many times that i actually ask questions to some youtubers but i won't get back a response until like long after i've forgotten about the question!
No, I was being sincere.
I wanted to respond but I didn't really know what to say.; Sorry if it came off snarky, it certainly wasn't meant to.
Nice and informative video! Is it staying in your collection?
That's why I said I prefer them over Sony and Microsoft, to an extent.
They've done some Genesis clones actually.
do you have everdrive? they make for a lot of systems and from what i seen they are not emulating.
The $120 does not include the docking station, its just the portable. You probably already knew that, but I'm just putting that out there. Also, they will be making new games, they have to work with the old production companies to make them in the new microcartridge format.

It's the one console in my collection I regret buying, and I own a Tiger R-Zone. Hope that says it all.
Wouldn't really surprise me.
Really?
Man, I wish I had waited.
Wow, Adam, hadn't seen many of your vids for awhile, I liked your story, and I am very sorry to hear you didn't like the Neo Geo X Gold that much as a console. I'm sort of a player in both handheld and console camps, so this might be more for me. Not sure yet
Any comparisons with the Aes arcade controller Vrs the SNK Gold Controller stick
Great video, and nice shirt, man.
It doesn't use an "out of standard" HDMI port. It uses a mini-HDMI port, adapters are readily available if you ever loose the cable, and they cost like $5. A lot of PC graphics cards actually use the same connector.
Well I would certainly never do that.
But to be honest, I wouldn't recommend using this either.
I'm reading such mixed reviews, have you gotten a lot of use out of this? DId you buy the firmware update? thanks... I am tempted =)
yea but i am still iffy on buying it because if they have a price drop already idk if they will bring out the other games you know
Yeah it feels fine. But don't pay full price for it if you can avoid it.
I remember asking you about this thing before it was released and you compared it to an NES on a chip lol. I guess it really is kinda like that. I wonder what the specs are? I should hope so, if you value your life...
Not really, clone systems are shit.
The Gopher is a good handheld Genesis, provided you accept the shitty sound.
me too, Nintendo is definitely on the right track with the touchscreen on the controller concept though only time will tell if it ends up being a Gimmick or an innovation.
blame youtube short comments. also thinking of more after posting with no edit option
That becomes my general opinion towards the end of the video.
Tablor the Mighty.
The boxes to a lot of Macbooks (maybe older Macintosh computers too, I don't know) also have handles like that. It's weird.
i thought i'd already seen you unbox this lol..
have you ever come across a clone that outputs at the same quality as the original machine? it's a shame if they're all a bit sub par cos those clones are a great way of keeping classic machines relevant.
Word.
I could be fine with that if it wasn't for the fact that they constantly push those systems as the ultimate high definition package. Yet don't include the most basic thing to make that possible.
That's fine. I understand. I'm sure someday you'll get a new camera that actually focuses, but it's really not a huge issue.
Glad I live in North America then.
Oh yes, I've been following that story pretty closely.
I was just curious, since some buyers were disappointed with it.
great video and this was posted on my birthday
we have already made some homemade adapters to do this but no one makes them yet
I like your videos dude, your calm and cool
what if 10 yrs later the rechargeable battery died off? I really want one, but it is a deal breaker if it can't last.
