You have a pilot on board. His job is to get the ship out to sea. Then a pilot boat will pull aside the ship and he gets off and then the Captain and crew take over. When the ship comes back to Miami. The pilot boat will pull aside your ship and the pilot gets back on and guides the ship into the port. It happens for every cruise line and all ships leaving and coming back into the home port. My first cruise was a Carnival cruise. I have now been on 16 Carnival cruises. My 17th is coming in February to the Southern Caribbean. If you like the casino. I highly recommend you join the casino club. You earn points while gambling and can get really good cruise offers.
