He claims to have done the things that are showcased in the movie, but he has literally lied his way through every aspect of life, so can you really believe him when he says he successfully talked his way out of being arrested by impersonating an LAPD investigator on the fly or that he studied for two weeks and passed the bar to become a lawyer.
Probably not. But it makes for an interesting story.

@@connorbingham4764 Basically none of it lol. The only thing that's been confirmed was him forging checks and going to jail for it, but even with that he lied about cashing 17,000 checks worth $2.5million. It was like 10 checks worth barely over $1k😂, but everything else was either completely made up or overly exaggerated. I think he did masquerade as a Pan AM Pilot, but he only got away with it like twice.

PanAm was THE most prestigious airline in the world back then, of course that was before airlines became nothing more than cheap flying buses. PanAm flew to every exotic location people dreamed of visiting. It was very expensive to fly internationally back then too, only the wealthy did. PanAm employees were admired. Whether a PanAm pilot or a stewardess, they had one of those jobs lots of people wish they had. As a kid, I collected model airliners and my PanAm ones were among my favorites. PanAm had declined a lot by the time I was a teenager.
A few years ago at work, I met PanAm's pilot #1. I forget his name but there was a TV show called "PanAm" and the studios called him to borrow his uniforms and other PanAm paraphernalia he had. I have to admit, I was impressed. He was a real gentleman.

Abagnale's claims were made before fact-checking involved Google searches. But it also helps that when Abagnale began telling his story in the '70s, there wasn't much research digging into his claims. He began making these claims at small events and eventually found himself on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." By that point, people assumed the questions had already been asked.

I think the thing I find most interesting about this movie is that even though its based off of a true story, the guy the main character is based off actually lied about doing heaps off these crimes, in reality all he did was some check fraud. The film ends with Abagnale working directly with the FBI, but this isn't exactly how things shook out. In real life, Frank's father was the first scam victim.
After his mother moved out following the divorce, Frank stayed with his father, and around that time, committed his very first scam. Using his father's credit cards, he began charging thousands of dollars - but when the first bill arrived, his father caught on.
After a brief stint at a school for wayward boys, Frank moved out on his own at just 16 years old. And unlike in the movie, Frank never saw his father again. He's said that while he was in prison, his father was in a freak slip-and-fall accident and died after falling down the steps of a New York subway station.

    Regarding the lawyer con:
The fifth floor of the building Frank claims to have worked in never housed his agency's offices.
For his part, Abagnale has always had a response to these claims - arguing that the people he scammed simply don't want to admit that they were fooled.

Frank's stepfather is played by Thanos' father, James Brolin.

Unfortunately most of this has been proven to be fabricated over the years. The guy was a con artist and his story is just one long con.

I always sympathized with him because of his parents divorcing. My parents split when I was 9. I just remember my entire world shattering. Being told I’m moving from all my friends, from half of my family, to go live with my mom’s bf three hours away. Only getting to see my dad every other weekend. Then growing up finding out all the nasty shit my mom did to screw over my dad so that she would get custody of me. Now all these years later I live back where I used to before that divorce. I see my mom and dad as equal as I can, I’m happy to say I have a close and great relationship with dad, I never doubted I would, he and I are basically the same person. I even have a good relationship with my mom. Hell even my step dad. My step dad is a good man I just wish the situation could’ve been different. Or that I at least would’ve been older so I didn’t have to deal with that stuff at a young age.

The funny part it, the part Seb thought it wasn’t real (the model in the hotel) was probably the most accurate part of the film. It went exactly how it was portrayed. From the meeting her to the giving the check and scamming her while getting a night, it was all true.

None of Frank's scams in this movie are fake. Dramatized, but not fake. In fact there were things Abagnale did that they left out of the movie because they thought nobody would believe it. Brilliant guy.

Nonsense. Most of it has been proven fake. Dude was a con artist. His stories are just more cons.
