You can call it whiting, but it is a kingcroaker, or kingfish, not related to cod or smelt or mullet, it's a drum, totally estuarine and marine. That chin barbel is distinctive

try using bait from chicken stomach. put the chicken stomach in a glass jar. and leave it for 2 to 3 days before you go fishing. this bait is very liked by catfish species. have a good try.
